I purchased some aftermarket 17" wheels from custom offsets. The package came with wheels and tires mounted and balanced. Fast forward, I mount them and the Front left (FL) caliper is ever so slightly kissing one of the weights every rotation. I dismount that wheel and slightly sand the weight down. In the future is there a better way for weight attachment to avoid this issue? Perhaps just mount the weights so they're not directly inline with the caliper?

    Thanks guys, Dan

You could always go to smaller weights but that would spread them out over the back side of your inner wheel hoop.. I had the same thing from Custom offsets . They pay a dude 16.00 hr to slap tires on all day so it may be safe to say he's in a hurry.

I used smaller weights. And the CO wheel weights were wrong I the first place. Took wheel to discount tires and they got it right.. I was at the balance machine with the guy redoing the wheel so I saw my wheels first hand. So I know it's true and balance. We even moved the tire position on the rim and did the rebalance for the tire on the rim first. Then added flat weights. Hope this helps

Short answer, yes. If the weights are mounted as close to backside of the wheel face as possible they shouldn't interfere with the calipers. Also as Steve mentioned if the tires are 'roadforce' balanced on the rim (this includes using the natural unevenness of the tire and wheel weight against each other) you can minimize the amount of weight that needs to be added. I also had good luck with Discount Tire.

Thanks guys, I have a Discount tire down the road. I’ll have to pay them a visit.

Glass balance beads. Never have to balance for the life of the tire and you don’t have to worry about wheel weights ever again.

I've thought about these but I've read more negative feedback than positive. You've had good experience?

It works great for me. I have 40s that are difficult to balance and are heavy AF so I was always knocking the weights off on the disc brakes.

There are different types of beads. The plastic ones are the ones people have negative experiences with because they don’t have enough weight.

I’m interested to hear what others experiences have been like as well. The weights on my driver side front flew off within a week of having them balanced. If I could use these instead and not have to deal with slack tire shop balance techs I’m all about that!
