I do have a different head unit (no external amp), but I've had that thing in there for almost 10 years.

Guess I can pull it out and check it, just seems a bit outta nowhere.

Shifty, sorry to jump in mid conversation... had a dilemma/question.... and this is the what have you done with your 1st Gen Tundra thread... didn't see a what have you done wrong to your 1st gen thread.... lol.

So I bought 10 jugs of Valvoline 5W-30 online, but it was synthetic blend... and was shooting for full synthetic. Probably not a big deal... fairly decent oil... Question is when Toyota originally sent there motors out was the 4.7 specified to use full synthetic? (If so I may just sell the oil I have on Craigslist)

My big question is on oil Filters.... I bought a 5 pack on Amazon but I got the smaller filter... the website glitched? and realized it after the fact of installing one!
So I used YZZD1 instead of YZZD3... Since it's on the truck and the only difference I've been able to find is the filter is 3/4 inch shorter.... Would you just run this filter 4K and do a full oil change or change the filter out now? I don't want to inhibit (starve) the motor... I think I'm fine for this oil change but I did send back the other 4 filters and bought the correct size.
I realize comments are subjective and just wanted to know what you would do in this situation??

    thanks!!!

I think you could've asked about anyone here that stuff.

I legitimately dunno what Toyota originally shipped with. I use full-syn Mobil1 5w30 'High Mileage' in my truck. Full syn, but honestly, I always timeout on my oil (months vs. miles) and end up needing to change based on time instead of miles, so I can't really reap the longevity benefits of regular oil. I don't see a problem with using synth blend. I'm probably the stupid one for paying 50% more for full syn when I could probably get by with a dino oil that had decent detergent/additive package for older vehicles.

On the filter, larger volume is better, but not necessarily mandatory. The volume of the filter doesn't starve the engine, it just reduces the overall volume of oil the engine can hold by a small margin, and you're reducing your filter content area, so it may clog up a10% faster if 10% smaller, you get the idea. The big thing you need to worry about 1st and foremost is "am I leaking?", and if not, the smaller filter is reducing your oil volume, so you need to recognize the engine won't have the same volume. I'd start by refilling 6qt, running it, then checking the oil to see how much to top off. I suspect you may find you're putting in 1/8qt less or something due to the smaller filter.

That's just my 2¢, others may have their own thought on it. I'd probably run with it until my next oil change. Which would be in 10-12 months because I know damn well I probably won't be racking up 3.5k miles in that timeframe.

Has anyone had any luck with these heritage badges? This is the 2nd one I've tried. They all seem to be cheap plastic. I'm shocked some of these are selling for north of $15-20. I saw two different people with theirs broken the same way, so I know it's not just me. I made a point of only going finger-tight with it, it lasted from my garage to the UPS store like 2 miles away.

I'm returning it. Not paying $5 for 5 minutes of usage. Total garbage.

I wish someone sold a plastic insert that you could snap into the hexagon shapes of the lower mesh grille. Would only cost a few cents each in mass production.

It's back in a box with a return label on it. There's about a dozen ways I could think to repair it, but I do my best not to spend money on things that cost time. scAmazon can refund my money, I'll spend time fabbing up my own.

Just drove mine to the gas station for a quick snack and I have a new problem. Decided to add a few gallons to the tank but the pump kept clicking off and it actually spit out fuel back at me. What the hell? What's the diagnosis and repair here fellers? Thanks.

I have an inspection camera I could poke down in there to make sure there's isn't something blocking the neck. Is it safe to put the inspection camera down in there though since it has a small bright LED in it?

No idea, but this article says LEDs are generally considered intrinsically secure. That’s the concept you’re looking for. Have a fire extinguisher handy if not haha.

I’ve seen this over the years dealing with Subarus. Each time it has been the vent valve clogged by something like a dirt dobber nest

That is the truth. I got lucky on some and when I hit the rivet at an angle with the chisel, usually on accident as I tried to hold on lol, it started to spin the whole rivet. Those seemed to punch out a lot better.

Hey, those USB extenders that replace the rectangular-shaped blanks on our trucks--does anyone have one that's a perfect fit off-the-shelf, or have y'all done the mod where you cut open a hole in the factory blank and affix the USB female end to the back of that? Got some blanks in my console I'd like to replace with something or add a female USB to.

Edit: found the post I was looking for on the custom-install option.

Edit 2: in the same GD post there was a link to these that are apparently drop-in.

Tank should have a vent. IIRC, concept is simple, when the fluid in the tank reaches the bottom end of the vent, air can’t circulate back out, and the backpressure of no air venting kicks the safety on the pump off.

For the LED part, you need to know, the bullshit you see in movies where someone throws a cigarette butt into a puddle or trail of gasoline and it ignites are exactly that: Bullshit. I wouldn’t doubt if it’s something MythBusters busted but I’ve seen YouTube videos from various people trying to recreate with no success. That LED isn’t going to ignite gas due to its heat if a cigarette butt won’t.

You can also get these with a USB tail which you can plug directly into the rear of your aftermarket radio, in case you need to use wired carplay/android auto.
    Example: https://www.amazon.com/MOTONG-Female-Adapter-Confirm-Dashboard/dp/B07425JMN9/

And there are combo plugs that will do audio and charging: https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Charging-Digital-Cameras-Devices/dp/B07G757Y2D/
