Indeed. I was up at 4:20am the first time, tossed and turned until 5:55am, then finally gave in and “woke up”.

I really hope we finally ditch DST nationally this year. We were so close last year!

    Go back to sleep!!

I can't believe how early you wake up on the weekends. I just got up and made coffee.

Time change is stupid. Arizona has the right idea.

China does that. They don't recognize daylight savings or time zones. If you live in western China, you’re all F’d up with time standardized to the Beijing time zone. You get up in the middle of the night to goto work and goto bed before dusk supposedly.

If folks can pick their genders & their race, i should be able to pick my own time zone.

the worst part about the whole scamdemic is my walmarts arent 24h anymore. Shopping at 3am was so much nicer than having to shop with other people standing in the way.

We're less than a decade out from you being the store employee anyway (i.e. the gradual takeover of self-checkout, customer-as-employee model) so it'll revert within the next 3-5yrs, don't you worry. And despite Wally's overhead costs dropping dramatically, the prices won't drop a penny, instead you'll see them hike 20%, don't you worry.

I heard somewhere that Big retailers in CA were going back to human checkout be cause of rampant THEFT!

Yeah. That's ultimately the thing they're trying to hash through right now. I suspect they'll trade 3-4 cash register clerks for a single rent-a-cop in the short term.

They dont have to chain the steaks down here.

they've been repaving the parking lot at HEB, so its been pretty nice, but if you're not there early, you cant park. Lots of husbands driving in circles when i left yesterday. Motorcycles are where its at. I can park in the shade next to the building.

Not just CA but everywhere. They were discussing this on the news last week. Apparently they aren't saving as much money as they thought.

I HATE self checkout lanes, especially at the grocery store. Kroger is now like 80% self checkout here with a few lanes open with an actual cashier.

In the future, stores will be open 24/7 and the only time you’ll see a human is when you walk out of a store without paying for an item and they all scramble out of the side door in the breezeway.

I hate them too. And yes, expanding here also. Every CVS now only has one cashier, and 2-4 self checkouts. Kroger recently expanded and doubled their self-checkouts. It's crazy.

It just the ATM at the bank revisited. Online banking fixed that annoyance. Peapod or such will fix the self checkout aisle at thee grocery. Walmart is available onlne. My 4 & 7 pin trailer plugs showed up in under a week.
A little planning can go a long way to fixing the self-checkout aisle.

I worked at a grocery store before so I'm a quick scanner at self-checkout and don't mind using them. But Walmart's suck, then they check your receipt when you leave the self-checkout corral. If you try to scan with two items in your hand or scan too quick at Walmart, it'll flag you and then show you a video of yourself for the attendant to clear.

One of the few times I really didn't want to self checkout was when I was on vacation in Utah and extremely tired. The cashier flat out told people to use self checkout because "she is slow and this order is big". Blanding, Utah sucks.

You apparently have never put in $20 bill only for the machine to run out of change and make you wait 1/2 hour until someone’s able to fix it and give you your money.

no, never had that happen, i have been entertained by watching cashiers brains sizzle when i hand em $24 so i can get a $5 back with change. Numbers must be hard for some people.

I do that all the time with pennies so I don’t get them back as change. $9.97? Here’s $10.02.

It overwhelms some people and I don’t know why when they can just enter the amount in the register to see it’s $0.05 cents change. Some have even given me $0.05 cents in pennies and I have to explain what I did and why.

Dunno if you're looking at new or used but...
2 friends bought new trailers in the last year. One had the front cap, & roof replaced, 2 cabinets fell down inside & had to be rehung. It was at the dealership for 9 months of the first year of ownership for repairs over multiple visits. Factory would not extend the warrantee. The other friends trailer showed up 6 months late. The fix list was long once it finally showed up. Leaking plumbing lines, heater wasn't connected to the gas line, gas sensor wasn't connected...
The dealers are still having staff & supply issues. What I hear is they are throwing stuff out the door as fast as possible & letting the dealerships figure it out & staff the repairs/corrections. It's paid for, but if it's your fulltime home...
I also hear the new RV market is starting to tumble.
I just say this to urge extreme diligence if you are buying new, really scrutinize the warrantee - if you're on the road, can it be fixed anywhere or only at one of their locations? I think Camping World requires your warranty work be done at a Camping World location. If they don't allow "camping" while you're waiting for your repairs & you are a full timer, you could have a real issue.

I'm a real fan of a Widow RV. Grampa dies, Grandma wants the RV gone now. Usually cared for units that are all sorted out. Flexible price, usually upgrade units.

All that said - Good Luck. I think it would be an awesome journey. We did this summers when I was a kid & I'm so glad my parents introduced us to America & all sorts of different Americans. It's an education a person just won't get in school.

Thanks for the cautionary tales. I've heard similar about the disastrous lack of quality in the industry, especially post COVID. We've been eyeing 2016-2019 rigs and have focused on old folks and full time families, for exactly that reason. Our #1 choice is a well-sorted bus that a young family has been in FT for about 2 years. Tons of upgrades and a lot of the factory BS has been sorted. It's also got a huge solar/Li setup for extended boondocking as well.

What you describe from your adventures with your parents is exactly what we're after. Life's too short to just work and die in the same place. We want to get out and have the kids really see the country (and Baja) and meet the people. My wife and I were both really nomadic before kids and we're ready to move along again. Probably not going to get back into backpacking or climbing with the kids just yet (and bec I've gotten older and fatter), but RVing and Jeeping the backcountry will be pretty sweet.

You just have to be careful, because like scAmazon and fleaBay and Sears, WallyWorld lets any 3rd party use their platform to sell. It's rife with knockoffs.
