I recently had my truck painted and noticed this issue after the complete paint job. The area in question was messed up before the paint job and slightly rusty due to the scraping, but I always just thought it was messed up because it's an old truck when I bought it.

The paint shop had removed the rust to the bare metal and painted it, so now I can see the bare metal and a clear picture of what's happening.

Door closed: No issue but the bare metal scraped section clearly visible. Paint is all scraped off.

Door open: Scraping begins, pics included are the door opened up to the first "check" section and then opened further progressively. You can see there is contact along that section throughout the door opening range of travel. The scraping is audible.

Obviously this is concerning especially in a road-salt area with winter just around the corner. Is there any way I can adjust the door spacing to move it just a tad farther so there's no contact? If not, how should I fix this issue?

Thanks Toasty. Can you help me locate this door pin and how one can fix it?

It's in the door hinge. Let me dig for some pictures.

So it’s the pin that holds the hinges together. You can open your door and lift up, im guessing you will find play.
There are other videos out there but here’s a start

Door looks to be a little low and the lower gap a tad tight. Check hinges for play first. If they are tight might need to adjust door or fender

Not much of a body shop. They saw the problem, cleaned it up and repainted it, so it could scrape off again? Maybe body shops have changed, but proper alignment of doors and fenders is part of what they used to do.

I checked the door for play, it's rigid and tight. No discernible play in the door. How does one adjust the door and hinges @bfunke ?

I had it painted at a local Maaco with exceptionally good ratings. Far as I know they're incapable of fixing something like this like a "full service" body shop would be. They didn't notice the scraping, I noticed it upon picking the vehicle up after the job.
