    Weight reduction, mostly rust.
Saw a set of those Starfishs on CL for $100... with caps, and not bad tires. I twitched a little bit... if I had a pole barn/garage they would be in it right now.

Finalized purchase on a 2006 limited one owner Alabama truck with 116k miles today. Detailed service records, senior adult owned, stored in garage its entire life, no accidents per Carfax. Timing belt and water pump replaced at Dealer. I paid too much at $16K but I feel it will last me into retirement in a few years.

It really is my twin, both on year, trim, cab and origin!

Be sure to keep that paint waxed with something that kicks out UV light. Last thing you want is clearcoat fail, and that color (and the green) are notorious for it.

I don't think you paid too much FWIW. That's what mine was listed at, pre-C19. I picked it up at a Toyo dealer in Auburn.

Thanks for the advice. Fortunately I have a basement to keep it in when not in use but I will keep it protected. I have owned three 3rd generation tundras but this is my first experience with a 1st generation. This was sold new from the Toyota dealer in Sylacauga.

Fortunately the frame is rust free. He vacations there occasionally. Here is another local truck.

Different truck actually, I just found the post. 04 instead of an 06 and had a camper shell. Very similar though!

Love that color - looks so good.

Sometimes I look back and think I overpaid for my truck, but then I think realistically I maybe could have done 1k or 2k better but it would have meant another 6 months of closely watching CL and FB and used lots which is a punishment in and of itself. We have to factor that in. Finding a nice 1GT is not easy. And finding the one you want is even harder, so I think we kind of have to be willing to pay a bit. That's the way I looked at it when I bought mine.

Congrats on the truck, I'd be proud to have that in my garage. If I had garage space...

Totally agreed. Got REALLY tired of looking and, especially, MISSING, on good-to-great trucks. I think @Tileguy got a really solid deal, that's a fantastic-looking truck. I paid a good bit less for my 2001 with 42k on it, but with a little more surface rust than I'd like--nothing insurmountable so far, but we'll see when I redo the front suspension!

Thanks guys. Like I said I know I overpaid a bit but to find a 17 year old local southern truck, one owner, no accidents with complete service records was enough to prompt me to buy it. Hopefully it will be as good as the 2nd generation Tundras I have owned. Agree with @JasonC. when a reasonably priced good to great condition 1st gen hits the market they only last a day or two around here. You miss out if you can’t see it immediately.

My 2006. Bought it with 25k miles in 2009. Has 138k on it now.
Just did upper/lower control arms, ball joints, steering rack, has billsteins on it with the little 1" front lift.
    Drives perfect!

    To Do's
Want to get some 17" wheels & tires but still looking. I always liked the aluminum American Racing style wheels.
Probably look a lot better with black wheels though.

Fog lights. Hmmm. Would like something that can light up a trail but don't want to be blinding oncoming cars.

The paint on the fenders has a lot of scratches and the bed is scratched and scraped. So either a DIY bedliner with a 3/4" rubber mat or pay the $500 for LineX or similar.

I like the idea of having bedliner type paint on the sides or even the whole truck. A lot of driving down jeep roads with branches scraping, and I use it to do stuff so the bed gets used.

Love this truck. Best vehicle i've ever owned.

Gonna disagree on the wheels. Black wheels on white trucks often make it look low-end, budget, fleet vehicle, cheap.

    See?!! Exactly! ;)

(But to your point, things stop looking “fleet” when front/rear armor, lift, beefier rollers, and everything else goes on)
