Drivers floorboard wet

I know the leak conversation has been covered many times but humor me. My driver's side floorboard is pretty wet and we haven't had any rain. Its wet under the floor mat. No carwashes, maybe condensation in the morning at best. What's leaking into the cab? AC? Thanks

 

Sunroof drain tubes clogged?

 

heater core sprung a leak? Except i think that would only make it wet on the passenger side floor.

Besides the brake reservoir and booster, I can't think of anything else "wet" on the driver's side. Maybe the windshield washer lines?

Is it oily or watery?

 

Blot it up with a white paper towel. Coolant is pink and slippery feeling. Pet urine is yellow. Water is clear. Look under the dash for any obvious drips. Check that the condensate drain is not plugged up. Maybe go to a car wash and look for drips

 

Another question or two:

It's only wet under the floor mat/carpet, not above? This ties into my previous Q.

On a different tangent, do you un A/C often, by chance? I remember someone mentioning condensate on/in the vent tube going over the center hump behind the dash and dripping on the driver's side. But they were in a humid area also. I'm not sure where OP lives. I think that would end up on the top end of the carpet though.

If it's under the carpet, I'd dust the firewall with baby powder/talc and see where your water lines end up. Should give you a path to run with.

 

Smells musty like water, and its clear so i doubt its coolant. Yes, it is under the weather tech floor mat. I do run the AC all the time, im in south florida so its very humid.

 

Its not coolant, its clear like water. And I havent had any rain, in fact its been in the garage the past few days.

 

Ok, so in the carpet, but under the floor mat.

I'm guessing it's condensate. Have you probed the nipple of the condensate port on the passenger side of the firewall (engine bay side) with weedeater string to see if water drips out, or looked directly inside where the EVAP coil is by removing the blower motor resistor?

The condensate port check, I'm pretty sure, is one of those "check this shit first, my guy" points in the sticky thread on water leaks linked above.

Oh, and a follow-up question: Do you typically run the A/C in recirc mode? That's supposedly an excellent way to build up the kind of slime molds that clog drain ports (and lend to sour smells from the A/C vents)

Yes, I always run it on recirculate. The AC doesnt smell, yet. Where are the drain ports that may be clogged? Ill start there.

Passenger side of firewall, engine bay. Where I have this hose plugged in here, insert a 8-10" piece of weedeater hose (anything non-metal/not-sharp) into that port, with the old in-out, real savage. Does it squirt or surge out with water?

If water dribbles out, like this, as it should do naturally without you poking the hole, you have condensate from the AC's evap coil unable to get out of the evap housing, and it's backflowing into your interior. The passage may be clogged with slime mold.

If it's clogged, you can get a direct view inside the evap housing by removing the two screws holding your blower motor resistor and carefully sliding it on, it's RIGHT HERE. (note the evap coil in the pic; my resistor is already removed)

Because these trucks have no cabin filter, you may find lots of debris inside. Vacuum out. What I hope you don't find is THIS. Note the left-hand picture, before cleaning; that's what happens for people in dusty/humid areas who love running AC on recirc all the time. Total clog.

While I prefer BG's "FrigiClean" product, Toyota makes a kit to service your EVAP coil. More info here. You can also see how my blower motor resistor was cracked. It still worked fine. It should also dissolve any slime molds growing inside, unless it's really bad.

If I were you, I'd start by probing the HVAC port, if you don't actively see water coming out like the 2nd pic linked above. After every drive with AC engaged, you should see a puddle under the truck below that port.

As far as I can tell it was the AC fluid hose that was clogged up.
