Yes I cleaned behind the 3rd brake light.

 

Oh wow, this is cool. You are using OEM parts? (Other than the cable as you mentioned)

 

That mirror alone from Toyo is like $2400.

 

Yup, not all new though. I sourced them from some junk yards.

 

I’m all in for about $800 and it’s OE, which I always like.

 

The factory clips are in for the custom wiring harness I’m making.

 

Powers on and home link works. Need to find out what wires supply power to the camera. Anyone have a wiring diagram?

 

Which camera does it use? Is it an additional camera thats not already on a truck with PVM? If not, where is the addl camera?

 

It’s using the factory DRV camera in the 3rd brake light. I’m guessing it needs power to actually turn on and function. I thought I’d get lucky and it be a pass through power from the mirror itself.

 

Looks like #4 and #5 are the power and ground.

 

Okay, upon further investigation, those wires are for the side mirror dimming function and not the camera. Back to the drawing board for camera power…

 

so this is the inside of the camera wire. Is CGND and CB+ / Camera Ground and Camera Power?

 

6 is battery+. 1 is ignition. 2 is ground.

 

Project is complete!! No coding needed. You have to have the correct wire for the camera only. Thank you all for the support!!

Noticed in your pic of the 3rd brake light that there’s two cameras… does the bed one work too or only the DRV?

 

I can see why you went thru all this trouble cuz after having this, no way do you want to go back to a mirror !

 

The bed camera is not working at the moment. That’s a retrofit for another day.. lol! I have done a little research on it but not enough to jump into the project yet.

 

You said you sourced the mirror from a junkyard. Was it from a 3rd gen tundra or some other Toyota?

 

I got it from a 2023 Capstone Tundra. But I do know the Rav 4 and Sienna have the same camera.

been wanting to do this also. Just wanted to get some clarification, if my Limited with off road already has the cameras on the third brake light, would I just need the mirror and its plug and play? or would I need extra harnesses.

You sure you have both cameras? Or just the bed camera and a “dummy” looking camera

 

dang you are right, it's just a dummy camera and the bed camera. didn't look carefully.

 

Just get a step bit and drill out that dummy lens. Take your time and test often to no overdue it.

 

@KA22TRD do you have the list of part numbers for the connectors you used for this project?

I'm glad I found your thread. I had already sourced the same mirror and camera assembly, but I'm not installing it in a Tundra, so I need to create all the wiring harnesses.
