I have an '05 TRD Crew Cab with the typical Northeaster differential housing rot and failuere. Anyone know where I can buy a new housing, or housing/axle assembly from a "no road salt" state? Thanks!

They sell an aftermarket diff cover that you could weld over the existing one if you have any leaks.

Double cab? You left off the most important part. Is it 2WD or 4WD? If 4WD you'll need to determine gear ratio on your truck and pick up same, which may be a challenge. You also can't use any cab except double cab donor, since regular and access cab axles are different width from double.

Search junkyards that have their parts indexed at Car-part.com. You will almost certainly be able to find a whole third member and just slap that on, much easier than trying to bolt/welt/attach good metal onto shite metal.

Third member won’t solve his rusted out axle housing issue. He needs an entire axle housing.

The problem, which is universal for all Tundra/Sequoias of that vintage, is that the diff housing is all part of the axle assembly, and it's the bottom of the housing, not the cover, that shites the bed. Good point Shifty, thanks, and also Jason C for the parts finder tip. What I learned through it all - the worst parts on US Mfr. Tundras are made HERE - the frame and rear axle housoing made by DANA. The Tundras/Sequoias/ (even Tacos) built in Japan with Japanese parts - not so much. So much for made in America...

If it was just the cover rusted out, others have been able to cut off and replace it with a Dorman part. Can link you up with more info.

But yeah, 4WD or 2WD you'll need to know, to figure out gear ratio. car-part is a great resource to search remotely. But honestly, hunting for parts trucks on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist from the Carolinas and Tennessee southward for "parts tundra" can be pretty effective too.

Seqoia axle, while it'll fit width-wise, you're up against challenge b/c drums vs. rotors, and I swear the shock mounts or some other welded mount is diff't.

Today I learned something about nomenclature! I thought "third member" was the whole rear axle/differential assembly, but general consensus seems to be it's just the differential.

Damn, it’s gotta be pretty rotted for the bottom of the front of the housing to be rotted through (if I’m understanding you correctly). I’ve escaped that scenario using POR-15 as a protectant.

Tundras are made in the US and only sold in North and South America. They are not available in Japan. Toyota plans to sell them in Oz. I lived in Japan during First Gen times and never ever saw a single Tundra. I drove a Hilux and a Surf

The 2uz-fe engines were made in Japan up until 2003 when the Alabama plant took over.

    Everything else, made in USA.

There someone in northern NH / western ME that sell refurbed housings on CL/FB. That might be the cheapest way. I bought a used one and had to clean it up myself.

    Good luck!
