I thought you guys said these trucks get poor mpg?

Just bought it and drive it from Boston to DC area. This is way better than I expected. I know it’s going to plummet when I start city driving but I’m pleasantly surprised with the highway mpg.

yeah when I picked up my 09 I got rid of last year 14 years ago I immediately did a 700 mile road trip keeping her in the low 60s and got 18.7, planning all acceleration related maneuvers very carefully to minimize throttle.

I was impressed but never saw that number again the rest of the time I owned it.

Fastest I went was 80. Was mostly low 60s because of traffic from Boston to just north of Philly so I couldn’t really get going that fast haha

13 is an average around town. 13.5 on the Highway. The absolute worst I’ve ever gotten in any vehicle I’ve ever owned including towing with other half tons. But at least it’ll last forever. Money saved on maintenance goes towards fuel.

Haha. I also got 19 mpg on my way home when I bought mine. And never got anywhere near that again.

I'm averaging 14.5 these days. But, I have about 800lbs of extra weight over the rear axle thanks to a fancy Leer canopy, and a fully stuffed Decked drawer system, which is 200+lbs empty.

    Plus I have a 2" leveling kit and heavy 33" tires. If I get 15, I'm happy.

I got 16.6 on our trip to OBX this year. I was amazed that I got that close to the EPA estimate.

I get 17-19 on the regular on mine, as long as you are driving gently you can actually get "decent" gas milage for a truck!

    Since 2018.
    Average 12.5 l/100km = 18.82 mpg - 70 degrees F
this is with fully loaded truck going up and down hills 55 mph.
    13.5 l/100km = 17.42 mpg - 50 degrees F

Mileage drops off a cliff with temps. Winter mileage is brutal.
Dont even look at the gauge in town or if you get spirited behind the wheel.
Have owned it since new and am still amazed I get mileage like this with a 350 cu engine.

For comparison my 4Runner does 1 liter better per 100 kms.

Averaging 17 with stock size nitto grapplers in mixed driving..

City driving and short trips kill mpg..

But I'm happy with it. Not going to get bigger tires and get below 15 mpg. To me it's a more like a company vehicle. Plan to keep it clean and maintained then trade it in when the time comes.

Why are you guys complaining? 13.4 MPG currently in my 3600 lbs Volvo wagon. 93 gas.

Wife's Sequoia gets 18+ MPG every time it hits a highway. My Tundra was getting the same MPG as well, when it was stock.

If you get 28 in that you’re clearly not driving it how the engineers meant for an R to be driven.

3" downpipe, Hilton stage 1, new engine and transmission (after rebuild). It is also AWD (+150 lbs of rotating parts), lifted, fitted with 29" AT tires (up from stock 27"). Skid plate and 14 GA stainless steel radiator cage added some weight, too. Bad MPG is mostly because of heavy tires and 10" of ground clearance. And lead foot.

It’s a Volvo post 240 red block. It’s not a matter of if, but when it explodes. So enjoy it and be prepared to fix it.

70-75mph. 34’s with 5.29’s. Gears didn’t change the mileage (did gain +2 towing though) but didn’t hurt it either. It was 12-12.5 before I played with the tune.

Like I said, worst mpg of any vehicle I’ve ever owned. And yes, I’ve owned other half tons with 34’s. They all managed 18+ on the highway at the same speeds. If I had to commute for work I’d sell it but since I work remote and only average a 100 miles or so a week, I can afford it.

We take the hemi awd Durango on road trips. Not as spacious but at 20mpg, way more economical.

I averaged about 16mpg highway when I first got my truck. I don’t ever remember seeing that number again. I average about 12mpg now with fat 33” tires and 2” lift. Mostly city driving now too.

Tundra mpg is not that bad. I had an '03 Frontier V6 crew cab auto. My '21 SR5 Tundra is 2 mpg better on the highway and only 1 mpg worse around town.

If you looked at the fuel gauge on the frontier while merging you could see it move.

It’s all about not lifting it and keeping stock sized, light weight tires. Two things people here believe they have to immediately change. I’m in the middle of a 1000+ mile roadtrip with the family. Yakima box on top of the ARE topper, cruise set at 70-75mph on the highway. Easily hit mid 17+s mpg. Love that big gas tank!

Yup, they actually do pretty well if you keep it under 70 on the highway. city and idling kills it though.

If you don't have the tallest truck, everyone looks down on you.

I swear pickup owners are like women with shoes. Have to buy tires to impress the crowd.

Yep stock and moderate driving will achieve those numbers. My 2012 Sequoia got about the same, a little less than 15mpg. Both my 2018 Ecoboost Expedition Max and 2020 work truck (Chevy with 2.7L turbo) averaged 18 to 19 mpg.
