Yeah, that's kinda what happens when you let non-native invasive vines choke out the bark, it can't breathe, the roots hold water to the bark, and your tree dies. I know a lot of people are, like, "ooooh, aaaaaah, ivy, it's so pretty!" (same with non-native Wisteria), but ... it's super destructive stuff, both for buildings, and especially for trees. Like kudzu, I wish all three would die. I get so sick of seeing "kudzu dinosaurs" on the roadsides down here because people can't control their land, and some selfish butthole decided they wanted an exotic ornamental in their garden.

If you just notch that ivy, section out the first 36"-48", the top will die and fall off naturally within 6-12 months, and if it doesn't fall off, by then the roots are brittle enough you can peel it off like strings off a banana. You'd be surprised, they may recover.

 

"Kudzu dinosaurs" in case someone reading my comment doesnt live in the south and has no idea wtf I'm talking about. The stuff covers everything, choking out all natural vegetation. No known natural predators here. Scientists found a mold/mildew/fungus or something that will help eradicate it, but apparently it targets cotton plants also, so ... it'll never get released legitimately.

Chinese Wisteria is just as bad, but it estrangulates trees and pulls them down. Anyway, I get incredibly tired of seeing this.

I freaking hate English Ivy and Kudzu. Previous owners let the E.I. thrive but I've been at war with it. That's actually not what killed those two trees though. I think they got a fungus or something. My worthless neighbors have trees completely covered by it.

I have a new Sycamore growing and I've been keeping the ivy off it. I'm going down there soon to cut down some honeysuckle and Box Elders that I don't like. I'm hoping to free up some space for better trees to start growing.

That red is insane. I bet it's the colder weather that makes the change more intense but also shorter. Some of my trees have been changing color since September.

 

Honeysuckle (bush and vine) and privet are two of my other "f'n hate you" non-natives.

We've had issues with Anthracnose (sp?) on our maples in the past, but what you're describing may actually be maple wilt. I think both are fungal. Too lazy to look it up. We finally got Anthracnose under control with our maples by cleaning up the leaf litter under the trees every fall.

 

We should see more color next week. It’s going from 75F now down to the mid 50s in a few days.

 

Kudzu - the vine that ate South Carolina

 

We had a 38 low followed by some 40s and plenty of rain, it kicked them all into gear.
Edit: that pic wasn't enhanced, and it was really overcast too, have not seen that vibrant color in a few years.

 

I mulch them into the lawn every year, and spread about 2" over the garden. There is something weird and therapeutic about it for me.
It's a great organic addition to the soil too. We never fertilize or chemically treat our lawn with anything and it's super rich and full of worms.
The girls were right on my heals most of the time, apparently they are part honey badger and don't GAF about the loud mower throwing twigs and debris.

 

Calling all sparky's. Wiring question.

I'm going to be adding one of those tailgater tailgate handle/camera devices. (anyone know of a less floppy version?)
I don't want to chop up my tail lights / reverse wiring.
Truck has a 4-pin & a more than 4-pin connections at the trailer hitch.
Can't I just run my power line to a trailer side 4-pin plug? I'd then plug in the camera to the 4pin & leave it be forevermore.
(One of the pins is 12v power always on-yes?)
I can hook trailers up to the round plug, but even if I need to unplug the camera to run a 4 pin trailer wire - I figure you don't need backup camera once you're hooked up to a trailer/boat/whatever. Not like you'd see anything useful.

This seems a no-cut simple answer, am I missing something?

Ah, this would only work if the lights were turned on. Okay, I can drive with lights on. That would work - yes?

4 pin is left stop + turn, right stop + turn, park aka running and ground.

reverse is readily available at the 6 pos OEM connector in the center of the rear bumper. Also possible to catch the signal for a trigger in the cab where I get mine, off the relay. It’s red w black stripe there (on my truck)

there is constant 12v at the tow controller which is fed from an extra piece in the engine bay on my truck. But you don’t want cameras off battery power, ignition is better.

I am running my Tundra camera off one of the power socket circuits in the cab for now. As those are ignition switched. Eventually I’ll do a high current relay and fuse block and take clean power from my aux battery once I get that done.

you do have ignition at the radio as well as remote out, both are candidates for camera power, current draw should be low.

 

This is on my other branded truck. It has a nav radio, but they didn't spring for the optional camera. The factory cam you drilled a hole in the tailgate & the camera attached like a wart on your gate. Glad they skipped it. With the tailgater it's built in to a replacement handle - so clean.
The radio already has reverse signal/logic at the head unit. The camera feeds into a remote Nav box (CD player) under the drivers seat.
So this install is a little one off. I need power at the handle & run the video cable to drivers seat & plug it in. Done.
I'll have to count how many pins in the round trailer plug. Maybe that's a cleaner power grab.

I miss Radio Shack. Where does one get a blank of those round trailer sockets? Maybe a 7 to 4 adapter & convert that to the plug?

 

I have some but you can buy a Curt goose neck harness to get a T off the 7.

but you don’t want to do that because the camera is on while parked and eventually will drain the battery. Unless your 7 is sending ignition switched power.

I should clarify why I'm wanting plug in power.
1. I don't like chopping up harnesses.
2. I'm building in room for product failure. I want to be able to swap out easily.

The tailgater handle/camera on Amazon & Ebay appear to be identical units. Amazon $119.99. Ebay $75.99.
Ali Express has what looks to be a very close copy. The specs are the same, but this uses a Sony camera. $37.12.
I'm cheap enough to try & save $40. But I want to allow for it to suck & be able to easily change it. (Although the camera is held by 2 screws, so camera swap looks simple if the handle is any good.)
So my $40 save - I don't want to keep messing with my harness if I ended up wasting $38 & have to redo this.

Okay, off to get the off brand truck Wool Waxed. Winter is coming tomorrow.

They made us do simmilar at a Chili's I worked at in my teens. I always got stuck on fry or grill. Two stations nobody ever wanted to work. GM would ding anyone working grill, you got 4 send-backs a shift. If you overcooked more than one thing MW+ and it had to be tossed, it came out of your check.

Safe or dumb move, odyssey summer to winter wheel change, I used the LCA pivot bolt as a Jack point. Not super sure how these unibody vehicles work best with lifting just one corner. Trucks are so much easier, though the 2wd ‘05 will have the same situation up front.

Am I safe to assume LCA is safe to Jack?

 

The LCA is usually the safest point to jack on any vehicle although you want it distributed across both connections to the body (assuming more than one pivot point).

 

I've always heard stories like this but I'm pretty sure it's not legal. The restaurant I worked at used to threaten us and say that if anyone walked out on their tab without paying that it would come out of our check. I always assumed that was bullshit. My checks as a server were never more than $20 so I'm not even sure how that would have worked. They only pay servers $2.13 an hour here(even today)

 

This an ADU? Is it 2-stories, or loft, or-?

I'm preplanning in my mind, for a well house with a loft for storage (which would be sleeping quarters during the time it takes to build a house). Always looking for plans for others' layouts. Did you have this built? Do you have plans or pics of the interior, that you'd not mind sharing?

 

To be fair, it was a more than 30 years ago, and I never got dinged, so I have no idea if it was true or not. People weren't so eager to challenge labor laws back then, either. But at my age, at the time, and barely scraping by to make ends meet, I wasn't about to find out.
