Live TV on the 14” screen

I got my Carlinkit on Amazon for $154 during Prime Day and had it in hand the next day and it works great!!!

 

Did you buy the same version he references? I'm just curious if they all function similar.

Anyone with the binize or carlinkit used MS Teams video chat and can comment on if it works well? often find myself in a parking lot on a teams call and trying to read info on phone screen. Would be slick if I could have the call on the 14".

So if I use this, will my iphone still connect for phone call purposes? I understand this is an android box and in a sense is like connecting as it's own device. I would use all the capabilities of this. However just wondering about making and receiving calls over the car speakers with my iphone.

 

yes, the oem phone screen kicks in and mutes audio from the box. Once you hang up, audio resumes.

 

Does this Carlinkit device actually allow you to use all your iPhone apps on the truck's multimedia screen? For example, could I browse this forum on my truck's screen using Safari or Chrome? Could I watch NFL games using the NFL app?

Or does it just convert wired CarPlay/Android Auto into wireless?

I keep reading conflicting/confusing information. Some say you have to jailbreak your iPhone to use all your apps with CarPlay. But the descriptions of this Carlinkit device don't say anything about needing to jailbreak.

It's an android box. So you are using all the Google Play Store apps.

 

Bummer. Of course there's nothing similar for iPhone apps, I'm sure.

 

the box is self contained and can run the NFL app....all it needs is a hotspot. So if you already have an NFL app account, just download the android version in the box and login with your account info...its simple. Is that what youre trying to achieve?

 

The NFL app was just an example. Ideally, I'd like to use my truck's multimedia screen just like my iPhone, instead of being limited to just the CarPlay compatible apps.

 

Biggest issue would be iMessage I'm thinking? For me I use and iPhone. Carplay won't let me use Signal Messenger. This way I can use Signal Messenger by using the android version.

I get it. There are pros and cons of both.

 

If that's what you want, then it'll work for you. I have netflix, redbox, disney, paramount, mlb, youtube, prime video, some games too....All via the binize box and it just needs wifi. Texts still come thru on the screen if I enable them, so do calls thru the speakers.

 

a little off topic but carlinkit has released new firmware to allow over the air updates going forward. only works with their version not rebranded ones. i have the android 12 8+128 version. love using it on the big screen, can even split and watch nav and game together.
must update to latest android 12 ota version which then allows you to update to android 13 ota version. no problems

 

There are a lot of options. Any advice on what to get?

 

They will work. I had it working on my Tacoma with a Pioneer screen.

I’m sorry man, I’m just seeing your messages…so to use the CarLinkIt (or anything similar) you do need the hotspot or SIM card…that’s how it connects to internet allowing you to watch YouTube/Netflix/Live TV/etc…hope that helps!

 

Hey brother, what exactly do you mean by SIM card? I've just gotten into research mode on this for my kid on road trips.

If I am understanding right there is nothing that can mirror my iphone and use the data from it? Youtube or Netflix from my iphone directly to the screen.

Seems these (binize box & CarLinkIT) are all android os and must have wifi or SIM. That is where I am confused. I could use my phone as hotspot maybe? Thanks!

 

Hey Dave! Yes sir, you can definitely use your phone as a hotspot. There’s multiple ways to use the CarLinkit to watch live TV/Netflix/Youtube/etc

1. WiFi through the vehicle (if your vehicle supports it of course)

2. Sim Card through your cell phone provider

3. Use your phone as a hotspot (just make sure you have unlimited data cause you’re gonna go through it quick.) Hope that helps!
