What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I ran my shitty upper and Lowers dry for at least that long including off roading until they developed a mild squeak. I had “greased them” as well upon installation . Apparently however the zerks on these when fully tightened do not allow grease to enter them. I shot WD40 in them on the side of the road to get rid of the squeak and pumped them Full of grease when I got home. That was 40k miles ago. Still running smooth.

 

Went to the local paint shop and picked up 2oz of touch up paint for the scrape that came with my truck. Sanded the rough stuff and lathered it on. Good enough for govt work and will hopefully keep any rust away. Looks good from far but still far from good.

It was an air bubble dammit! It happens, and y'all fkers know this! I can't tell you the last time I got one, to the point I didn't check this go-round. Boooooooooo.

Yeah, not sweating it. And I over-greased when I got home, so I'll be going in and cleaning up ooze with some more articulation. Already drove around, no more random noises like I was hearing before. Meh.

 

Did they add hardner to the touch up paint? If not then it'll wash off over time because most of the auto paint used now is water based. If they didn't then you can get some nail polish clear coat to throw over it and seal it in.

 

You know I’m not really sure I may have to ask my wife for some nail polish

 

Drove mine to work tonight so I can swing by the inspection shop for its yearly inspection and registration sticker. Where I parked it at work, I ran out to grab something from the backseat and realized its time to change out the rear passenger side door check. It no longer holds the door open. At home, the way the truck is parked, the door swings down away from the body and stays so I hadn't realized it too needed to be replaced like the driver side rear door. Time to search for that door check thread and order me a cheap replacement to Frankenstein my OEM part.

First off - fist bump!! Nice looking truck!! Rims go well with that color!

So the specs say 3.2 gallons for a full replacement and I probably put closer to 1.7 gallons which is higher than anything I've endured in Idaho in this area!! So its a touch over 50/50 and 50/50 will go minus 37 if memory serves me correct and my first winter back hit only 25 below (coldest in a decade)..... when I drained the right side of the motor I noticed a freeze plug.... probably one on each side of the motor.... so freezing isn't a concern. Might see if a parts store will check it for me. I really don't want to buy one... lol


So that bolt only had one solid thread in the middle.... so when I tightened it. It felt like it just barely grabbed with some resistance and after that it went loose and then went solid....
The bolt is rather short so a side view would show maybe 5 threads but it only had one up by the head and one at the tip and one in the middle. So 2 and 4 were literally missing.
I neglected to check the pan threads but if they are the same as the bolt? Then it really shouldn't have held as well as it did. No pic...

My thoughts is run Tranny until the fluid gets low and then take on the tap and die set if need be if the threads look a little banged up on the pan to clean them up. Just got the new bolt today from Toyo, and bought a 20 dollar tap and die kit from Horrible Freight. Hoping to not use it and return it....
I just want to do a full mix of trans fluid before adding again to get some detergent value out of what I put in to it... and the The transmission fluid I dumped was in fairly good shape.
Once I rectify this situation the tranny should be ready to go the distance. Previous owner might of put a hitch in the receiver maybe once probably to help someone move? Slight paint removal and no metal showing, usage barely noticeable! So this transmission actually shifts rather smooth for the miles.

Just wanted to share this with the community, I was curious about what tap and die set to get before a friend told me just buy the cheap one because your only going to use it once. Thus the Horrible Freight one I got but I found this YouTuber who does very extensive test on tools and isn't sponsored by anyone!!! He has 3 million followers.... goes by Project Farm.
His videos clip along relatively fast and disseminates information quickly while showing the tests.... Probably some of you know this guy already... definitely worth a shout out here!!!

Did you replace any idlers or your tensioner? Bearings in ALL of mine were pretty well spent when I did it few months back.

Picked up some brake pads for $48 and a used funnel to solve my waste oil problem of easily getting it back into the 5 quart Mobil 5w-30 jug.

 

Just got an email saying my reman axle order is ready for pickup, so looks like they're not completely discontinued yet.

My order was from my local dealer for $41 + $75 core, not one of the usual dealers we all buy from. Think Shifty's got cancelled when he asked about the order status

I ended up buying the clamps, but after wiping down the frame thoroughly, then putting another 40-50 miles or so on it with zero sling, I'm not even sure it's actually necessary...

I had no choice but to order 10 clamps if I wanted Norma, all 70-90mm, so ... if I do end up installing them because sling returns, I guess I'll just hold the other 8 in case someone on here wants to reclamp.
