I've seen and read that, supposedly, our trucks automagically adjust the headlight beam up or down so as not to blind oncoming traffic.
My Q is, can we do that manually? IOW, do we HAVE to have the auto thing on or can we turn it off and just set it how we want? If so, does that require an under-the-hood manual adjustment, or is there some super secret squirrel method inside the cab?

    thanks for any feedback.
    Cheers,

Depends if you have premium lights or not. Premiums are auto, the non-premiums are manual.

that being said if you want to adjust the premiums manual you can adjust them under the hood. But no way to adjust as you drive.

So you mean the auto high beam? It works great I actually used it a few weeks ago on a trip. As stated above its only with premiuom headlights (with DRL strip) . You dont need to engage the high beams just press the Auto High beam button to the left of the steering wheel.

Auto high beams - I was not sold on that at first but now I think it’s great. As for the adjustments, SR5 has a dial and again, that is a great feature. I believe that is a Toyota legacy thing and it’s a good one. Not aware of other manufacturers adding that.

If you got premium headlights, it only auto adjust if your truck has air suspension - at least that's what I read here... There is also a way to adjust it with a screw under the hood

It sounds like you are talking about the auto-hi beams. If so and your truck has them the button is in the cluster down on the lower left side of the dash.

With "auto" turned on if you have the hi-beams on the headlights will switch to low beams when the sensor detects lights from traffic. The problem with the system is it sucks and drivers that grow used to letting the computer/sensor turn their hi-beams up and down annoy the piss out of others on the road.

Here's the switch of the auto-hi-beam switch if that's what you were referring to.

The auto adjust is only if you have a real heavy load in the back. It only levels the lights back to original spot. If you pull up to a wall at night and stand on your trailer hitch you will see the lights move back down a tad. It does not auto adjust to on coming traffic. If you really want to raise or lower your lights there is an adjustment screw on the lights themself. Personally I like the set up better with the trims that have the dial on the dash. The “auto” button is only for the automatic high beams

Love the manual dial adjustment on my non premium headlights (turn signals really) I adjust them regularly between city and rural Hwy driving. Last night I had them raised not quite to high beam level on a mountain pass Hwy and spotted deer on the road twice in time to brake and avoid. *Auto High Beams works really well too as long as it’s not a really curvy road.
