second gen Prius.
my 2007 gives me 42mpg. I'm told I should do better but it may be a driver issue.
They'll do 80 no problem. Like 6 times more interior room than a 1G Insight.
those 28 hybrid cells between the rear wheels, & the gas tank ... must be? under them put a lot of low weight on the rear axle, 2 motors up front put the rest of the weight on the front wheels - makes it a very toss able vehicle.
you just have to be sure you like those stupid hard foam in metal pan seats they use. You'll like them or hate them.
Modern safety cage. But it's light, the wind can toss you about.
Not as cheap to insure as you might expect. & the plastic release for the rear hatch won't work when it's cold out.
put down the back seat to car camp, or recline the front seat to car nap.
Bluetooth, nav, back up camera, were all available. parts are easy to come by.
It's not interesting/engaging like a big block mopar in the rain. but it's interesting in a technology sorta way. Like how does not much add up to what you do little car? The old driving a slow car fast kinda interesting.
my exit ramp is posted 35. It's a 90 right to a brief straight to a 90 left to a straight. Pius is happy taking the 1st curve at 60 & the 2nd curve at 45-50. It's modded go cart fun, but boring about it just works stuff.
but it's not Lexus 400 comfy. it's tin can comfy. :-\

 

My cousin, who is also a freshman in college, has one. He beats the living daylights out of his and it takes it. I think they're cool, and they're super great at what they're intended to do, just like the insight, but you're right. They're not overly engaging or comfy.

I'd be real worried about the cat getting stolen, even with a shield underneath. It would sit unattended in an unlocked garage for two weeks, in Milwaukee. That's not a fantastic recipe. My cousin got his cat stolen twice, the second time with a shield.

I'll certainly add it to the list though.

 

That's a little bit impressive - the cars are so low, stealing the cat is actually a bit of work.

 

His car would sit for a week or two at a time, on a very quiet street, in a very pruis-populated area, so theft was common. The thieves had plenty of time to jack the car up, cut a hole in the shield, and then cut the cat off.

His new shield is really really hefty, and my uncle was so pissed he engineered multiple other security measures into it. It's reinforced with rebar.

 

Someday I might revisit the CRX. I had one for a short time around age 18. I only owned it long enough to clean up the hacked wiring and previous owners questionable work. Resold it within a month or two for a handsome profit. The HF model gets 45+ mpg.

The first gen Scion xB is a useful little commuter at 30+ mpg with good driving habits. People either love em or hate em though. If I ever come across one at the right price I'll jump on it.

 

I think a CRV would be fine. Or a 3rd gen RAV4. We've driven our 2012 RAV4 all over the country. From TN to TX, down to Florida and up to Michigan.

As I was typing this, I saw you are discussing a CRX, not a CRV. No way in hell I'd drive one of those death traps. I knew a kid in high school that was killed in one going like 35 mph. I really doubt the CRX would be more comfortable than your Insight either.

 

lets build a k20 go kart out of it. B16 lsd trans & that buzzin half dozen tower of power. Get an early accord hybrid & a fresh battery.

 

You gotta die at somepoint.

 

If one popped up for 5k-7k with little to no rust and limited butchery in my area, I'd probably hafta buy it.

Just looked through marketplace, and holy shit I had no idea a clean CRX was going for 8-10k! I think I gave $800ish for the one I had.

 

BringATrailer has a good sales history for nicer ones, if you ever wanna go there. Whatever take their average 10 lower sales in the past 6 months and subtract 10-20% and that’s usually what you’ll get for a decent private non-auction sale.

I'm a much bigger fan of the old ones. Yamaha-engineered V6, 5 speed, what's not to love? Plus nobody expects you to be ripping down the highway in one of those.

 

Was working on winterizing the in-laws jet skis today and pulled out the coils and plugs in order to fog the cylinders down and found one coil to be missing its plastic cover on the middle section.

It made me think of our trucks as I know they can get cracked in that plastic section and cause issues. Not sure how someone misplaced this but the other two coils still have theirs (as shown next)
This ski was acting a little funny when we had it out last, almost like a miss but not wanting to give me any codes, plugs look great. May be able to buy a used coil off of FleaBay or something and swap the plastic over. Seems like it would be possible for it to jump from the coil to the sleeve the coil sits in. This is a 03 Sea-Doo 4tech, figured I'd see what the hivemind has to say about it. It's a denso part so I figured it would kinda fit in here.

I’d replace it. The SeeDoo coils appear to be much cheaper than the on my Waverunner.

What's your definition of fun and engaging? I think my bar is pretty low so take this list with a grain of salt. These can be had in your price range, just got to look for the right deal

I'll never own another BMW as long as I live. All it took was one 'typical' experience for me to 'nope' out on ever owning another. They make incredible-to-drive cars. Incredible, that is, until something breaks. Then it's incredible how much the repair breaks your wallet, or your spirit, or both.

 

This is a really solid list, I am really looking into those Lexus options. The comfier the better, especially on the highway, and I think all of those work. My stepmom had an ES350 that drove really nicely. Stay true to Toyota too.

A friend of mine has a Mazda 3 with a bad solenoid in the transmission, he wants $1500 for it. Tempting... but I really really don't want to buy another project.

the finish looks slightly different and you can see some flaking on the bottom of the oreillys part.

another sweet detail, the oreillys TRE cost twice as much compared to the part from rockauto.

as far as I am concerned, these are the same part.

 

I'm going to post this here w/o judgment. I bet both of those TRE are also using plastic bushings, so it doesn't matter anywhoo. You're getting an inferior part either way.
