I’ve been on a rant these past few weeks. For a family of four, weekly, we typically spend around $280 at Costco, and another $100 at Krogers. This is ridiculous. I know I eat a lot (clean food) but come on.

$400 a week sounds about right. My wife and I spend about $200 a week. More if we want some fancy crap.
Pretty sure dog food went up too. My dog’s food is $85 for 50 lbs. Insane.

About a $180/wk at HEB. Four of us. Kids are 4 and 7. It may swing up and down about $40 depending on what kind of toiletries or other items are needed but $180 is about average.

Package of chicken breasts, 2 lbs of ground turkey, strawberries, grapes, half gallon of milk, 18pk of eggs, package of bacon, package of cherry tomatoes, and then a few misc items.

I stopped drinking just over 5 months ago. The beer tab wasn’t cheap. Going out? $40-60 (with tip) for drinks for wife and I. Grab a 12 pack of beer for the house? I think an extra $20 or so (VooDoo Ranger)

Family of 4 we consitantly spend at least $150 per week at the grocery and $3-$400 every 3 or 4 weeks at costco/sams. I try to hit the sales and quit buying so much fun stuff and stick to the essentials. We still do mostly organic. Also we have been doing more of a low carb diet and intermittent fasting which has helped both in health and the wallet.

Edit: im in NC. Also want to add occasionally we hit the farmers market and local farms for wggs and meat which has been far cheaper than the grocery

HEB 6 pack can generally last us 5 days or so. Young kids don’t eat much so pretty easy to have left overs. Wife and I both work from home though so those go fast. Definitely lots of sandwiches for lunch.

Over the years I have learned the sales cycles at the store. Other than the very basics like milk, I only buy when the cycle comes around. Chicken, hamburger, T.P., crackers, chips, soda, cheese, cleaning products, etc. etc. I only buy when I recognize the lowest ad cycles, we have an extra fridge/freezer and plenty of storage space. I will spend the time and effort to repackage bulk purchases. It's the only way to kinda be able to afford to eat, and even doing all that, it's still stupid expensive lately.

We're paying $100 for 2-3 bags of shit from any of the local grocery stores. It's usually just stuff for sandwiches for my work lunches and a few things for the house.
I don't even wanna know what it costs for big shopping and a car fulla shit.
    I would stroke out.
My pay check is direct deposited and my wife pays for everything. I don't mess with the money, I just carry shit into the house and help put it away. I just know that once in awhile I'll hear her bitch and say geez, I got 2 bags of shit and it was $107!
I think the last time we went to Sam's club and filled a giant shopping cart with shit was middle of the summer and I wanna say it was $300 easy.
But I don't think it ended up actually being a lot of food. There was other stuff.

Family of four (wife,7 yr old, 5 yr old, and I) and we budget $220 per week in groceries. We typically shop at WinCo, Fred Meyer, and Aldi. It isn’t easy to stay in our budget but it’s what works for us. Most weeks we are right at our limit and only bring cash so we don’t go over, but it does take discipline.

We also budget $400 per month in items like cleaning supplies, soap, shampoo, TP, etc.

With the cost of living in today’s economic environment, it’s not easy, but manageable with some focus. OP, wishing you and all the best, it’s been tough times the last 18 months.

I hear there are a growing number of cities where you can just walk into the store, take what you want and walk out!

Kids & women sound expensive. I understand, but if you fly south and wander across the border everything is free and they give you a phone so they can add money to your account. Its never been easier to just reload.

Family of four, 2 teens girls in sports. Easy $180 a week in Kroger and every quarter we do a Costco run for $400 plus or minus. Shit is crazy and I try not to think about how expensive everything has gotten. That can drive a man insane. However, In the next five years (once kids are out of school) I'm transitioning into a green house which will cut the cost of a lot of fresh fruits and veg down. Also investing in a still and brewing my own beer. Fu** the man and his plan to cut the middle class. Central Rockies Co

As an added bonus, cat meat swells when you cook it - the opposite of red meat. So one cat rib seems to be the size of a small baby back pork rib. If you can get past the past-due-date-summer-sausage-got-left-in-the-pantry-a-while-after-it-was-opened taste, then you're golden. I think that's the most apt description, anyways. Doesn't really fit in to the tastes-like-chicken category.

Oh, I guess I should respond to the actual thread... We are at 300-400 a month MORE for the fam with kiddos. That doesn't include going out to eat maybe once a week for lunch or dinner. My wife doesn't care for store bought goodies so she doesn't waste money on that garbage (even if I do every once in a while). It kills me to go pick up an item or two at the store and realize that I'm not getting out of the store for less than $50 and a single bag of groceries. I think I made it out for $17 a month ago because I literally didn't even grab a grocery basket - just what I could carry in my hands.

We have a local dairy that sells popular milk and ice cream - the kind of dairy that used to deliver milk straight to your fridge every morning. The milk there is delicious and used to be a treat since it cost 3 or 4x milk at the store. Now it's less than double the price and the milk is WAY better. I keep waiting for their price per gallon to double but I think they are honestly so sick of everything going up that they started selling at just above cost for a while to kind of say thank you to the community.

I never got the taste like chicken comment. Not true. Not even close.

I was in the Philippines a for a year in the early 90's. Pretty sure I've eaten bat, dog and cat. Have enough beers and it just all tastes like meat. But not chicken.

We spend on average about $100/week, not trying too hard. Different things we do:

    - use every coupon we can, when/if we think about it.
    - buy in bulk from different stores - e.g., found a sale on saltines for $1/box @ the dollar store the other day. Bought 10 of them. lol
    - use our own garden (when we can) for various veggies
    - food prep - e.g., we'll make 2 or 3 meals a week, and then have leftovers 1/2x a week.
    - Instant Pot or soups at least once a week.

Stuff like that. I'm sure we spend a bit more on some weeks, and this doesn't factor when we go out to eat, but we don't do that too much.

Sorry, don’t wander around here often

If we are talking a weekly basis:
    • Costco $325
    • Groceries $75-100
    • Target/misc $50
This is just to run the house. Costco is hard to gauge. For example, yesterday’s bill was $730 but included Christmas decorations, an office chair and a lot of booze.

Prices continue to rise. At our local store when I go in there no matter what I purchase even if it is just one little thing I purchase a bag or two of groceries that are already made up for our local ministry for the folks that are in need.
Three years ago the price for these sacks were nine dollars and some change, then they made it up to ten dollars and some change. This has been the price for the last few months. This last week now these sacks are well over eleven dollars!!
I can go in and just buy a few items and easily spend 80 dollars and not get much of anything!! It is just my wife and I.
Did I mention groceries continue to rise!!! It’s a dang shame!:( But they have always said it is going to get better? HA!!
