    Weight reduction, mostly rust.
I don't think it's legal to run those on the streets period, is it?
Not that you'd get a ticket now days though, you don't even need a damn license plate around here, LEOs have gone dormant.
"Unless it's a call, nothing is getting done. It's dangerous out there", quote from a former officer/neighbor.

Yah there's so much not street-legal on that truck. Guess (s)he built a show truck, not a road truck.

I see crap like that around here all the time. Most of it is OTP North (north Atlanta, outside the I-285 ring) which is generally all suburbs, and chock full of malldozers.

I suppose you could buy one of those for the rust free of it all, sell off all the crap & (mostly) pay for a rational build.

Surprise - Wool Wax spraying got rained out - another rainy Saturday. Hopefully next weekend will be dry & warm enough. Can always put the product in a pot of warm water, but why add layers to the job. Fingers crossed for next weekend - dry & warm please, otherwise we'll have to spray in @shifty` driveway. 14 hours down, 14 hours back to preserve a frame - worth it.

I just have to say, living in Vegas, the winter stayed up on Mt. Charleston & the pool was open year round. This 6 months of winter in the northeast is just bad design.

You're running under the assumption these people didn't hack and butcher to get their way there, and no damage was done from running things as-shown! I find a lot of dudes who like tasteless shit like that tend to cut corners, it's more about looking good from a distance than doing it right.

I've seen some real hackjobs IRL. Put an Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant to shame. Bent axles/tubes from the oversize high-offset wheels, rawed-out gearboxes from goosing it too hard piping out of the mall parking lot on too-large wheels. Lack of proper fusing, routing, all kinds of BS. No thanks.

That's the main reason I tend to buy my cars mostly-OEM, especially with OEM radio, and look for traces of hackery, extra wiring and BS off the battery. I don't want someone else's project, most people don't work to my level of OCD. I prefer clean, neat, safe, "OEM+" level. Do it right, or GTFO is my motto.

I feel a driveabout coming on. Haven't done that since the 2001 trip out to Armadillo, TX - 'cause why not.

Drive to VA for that perfect/stock blue Tundra Ridgeline with RSCA off switch, keep going to ATL for surround view camera install, a little camping in the outer banks, home to 50" of snow. i wonder if anyone would notice if I didn't come back home? I can work from anywhere internet signal.

I dont understand why you wouldnt leave from mid-nov to march every year. Winterize the house & boogie.

thinking of doing that from late may-oct. But i dont have to worry about squatters. My neighbors are all armed.

    Cause I'm stoopid.

Actually it's so I can be close to the folks, I'm their plan B. Also I can't find anyone to plow my driveway. They all look at it & say no. I don't want the house to scream vacant. In this area there'd be 3 families living in it by the time I got back.

Yeah it's pretty nice inside too. One of the better things about this rig hahaha. All the locks are rusty/blown out no longer work, but I don't have a key anyway.
Installed this lighting, which will come in handy when recovering meat for the freezer, allegedly.20220730_143446.jpg

So a bit of an update. Dad is up visiting and brought my old truck with him. He's got the vibration sorted out. His mechanic shimmed the rear axle at the leaf springs, rotating the differential up to correct the drive line angle. I'm glad to hear that worked, as it was my next step to try before I ended up selling the truck to Dad.

The vibration is 99% gone, what's left is barely noticeable and honestly could just be the ST Maxx tires wearing down.

Some 1st Gens are supposed to have angled shims in the rear; If you take them out, you'll f-up your driveline angles and see vibrations, and you'll DEFINITELY see that if you install them backwards. One of those little things you need to know about RWD vehicles in general. This little factoid is, IIRC, in the FSM. I saw it printed somewhere, remembering my truck had none, and so when I saw them in the diagram I was like ... wha?

Meanwhile, FML. Open the fridge today and it feels not-as-cold. Look at the hanging thermometer and, oh shit... I'm at 44°F. That's no good. Turn the temp down, look back 30min later. 48°F. Look back in 20mins, 52°F, where it stays for two hours. Check the freezer. Half-melted popsicles. DAMN.

Well, needless to say, all the frozen stuff was still good, and it was cold in bottom of freezer, moved to deep freezer. I heard the fan going so assumed the coils were frozen, or the compressor gave up the ghost, or the latter caused the former.

Wasn't planning to buy a fridge today, but this Frigidaire is 21 years old, I've replaced the icemaker twice, the water pump once, replaced the water tap lever twice, the lines for the water tend to freeze behind the crisper drawer, but found something suitable at to Lowes, who said they had one in stock, while every other in ATL said nothing was in-stock, same as Lowes, same as Best Buy.

It was the f'n floor model. FML. I was worried it'd be the case, and crappy enough, I borrowed my friend next door to help load 'n lug, because he needs me to replace his disposal, and we needed to buy one ... sadly, they also didn't have the one in stock we needed. WTF. I'm so sick of these bullshit big-box stores never having anything in stock! And it takes the people in the store way too long to figure it out. 20 minutes we spent waiting on staff.

Needless to say, put on the 'dammit, I won't wanna be an appliance repair guy today' hat, popped off the evap coil access door, and quickly found at least one of those above was true...

    upload_2023-10-21_20-49-50.png

Why was it like that? That's the big question. With past fridge repairs (I've kept quite a few alive), I don't find they ever leak coolant, nor do the compressors usually fail (this one is kicking on fine), more often the little compressor relay thingy goes out (they're like $10). But like with anything else cooling-related, overworking and poor ventilation causes coils to freeze up. The fridge has had a few cases lately where the door has gotten barely propped open and I've found excess frost. It also hasn't been turned off and melted down for 20 years, so ....

Defrost engaged. Dried everything down. Reassembled, and kicked it back on after drying out the condensate pan. So far we've gone from 56°F down to 52°F on the fridge side. Fingers crossed, I'd prefer not to hunt down a small fridge to keep dairy stuff in overnight. THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANTED TO BE DOING THIS WEEKEND. I'd hoped to work on truck audio. Meh.
