Replace starter relay?

Are you supposed to replace the relay when you replace the starter? Is that a thing?

 

Not really, Usually you dont replace the relay...its not a part that usually goes bad...but occasionally does..but tshooting it should not be too bad.. as you will not feel/hear it click during start up.

 

Nothing is broken, I’m just tearing apart the truck and figure while I’m down there type of thing. Cuz I’m also replacing the water pump, radiator, hoses, belt, alternator, steering rack bushings, and engine mounts.

 

Do you mean the starter solenoid? Not relay right?

I think of that is the case depending in your milage of your truck you may want to see if you want to replace starter contacts. But I am not sure if the 2nd gen trucks have starter that have replaceable contacts. Maybe they do.

Also the solenoid pin that drops. I forget what it's called can be replaced.

 

NO, unless you ruled out the battery, starter, starter switch and wiring on a no start troubleshoot. AKA hotwire it through the relay. Which is what I do on my Celica, pop that bad boy and jump start it.
