2024 “Platinum Pro”

I guess it’s time to do one of these build thread thingys…

Little back story first-

I’m a diehard Toyota guy and have multiple off road specific older Toyotas. I typically trailer my stuff to the desert for off road adventures and have always used my 2500HD diesel for the task. Recently my wife has really liked driving the 2500HD so I decided I needed another tow rig/daily driver. I figured with the towing capacity of the modern 1/2 ton trucks I’d give one a shot so new tundra it was.

I naturally gravitated towards a Pro until I saw one in person, all the camo stuff was just too much for me… screamed 16yr old kid (guess I’ve become an old man at 37!) I ended up with a iforce max Platinum however the front end never looked right. I never leave anything stock so started ordering parts right away, here is the list…

I’m having The Truck Shop in San Diego do all the work for me as I don’t really have time or interest in these types of projects. (Too busy with race truck stuff)

They are starting the cosmetic makeover today!

Finally got the correct grill for the truck, painted surround and I painted Pro mirror caps piano black… thought it looked better than the standard black plastic pro caps.

 

Wow love the white! Congrats on the purchase. Love the desert tan prerunner you have there… bet that’s a blast. Reminds me of my old prerunner …

 

Thank you! I really love the windchill pearl especially in the sunlight. And I love everything about the Platinum except for the ugly front grill, so much happier now with this setup. Can’t wait to get my shocks so I can throw the wheels and tires on it!

The whole process was kind of a headache because I purchased all new parts from Toyota and then had to get everything color matched. I also didn’t realize that the front camera needed a special mount for the Pro grill until I had the truck all torn apart… fortunately I have more Fab experience then I care to admit

 

The Baja Desings light bar’s definitely light things up!

 

Kinda funny how the grill swap made me fall in love with the truck…

 

Tundra spotted in its natural feeding habitat….

 

So far I have 1500 miles on the truck and my average MPG is 21.8. I do about 90% freeway driving and keep it around 70mph. Curious to see how bad the 35’s are gonna kill my mileage

 

They certainly won’t help. You planning to get the TRD Pro BBS wheels? Truck is looking great.

 

First tank was about the same as you, 21.5. Threw on some 285/65R20's (34.6") and dropped all the way to 17.1 on the second tank. This is using the dash, not actually counting myself.

 

I already have +25 method 305’s for it. I’m also working with Method right now to develop and offer a +12mm 305 specifically for the Tundra.

My WCP platinum has been in the shop for repairs, and I have them putting color matched surround on. Week repair is now a month long... I swapped the grille for a PRO one and added DD lights..

Your light bar aim is off. One of them the hot spots are pointing right in front of the truck. Not where it should be hitting.

 

The larger tire size will make the dash numbers go down because the reading isn’t accurate. If the ECU was recalibrated I’d bet the dash would be closer to 20mpg with the new tires

Adjusted the rear air bags this morning to get a little lift in the rear

I was thinking of doing the exact same thing once I am ready for gen 3!

(No one is going go know meme comes to my head)

 

Finally got to do a proper test drive and it’s amazing what a difference the shocks and upper control arms made. The front end feels so much tighter… I couldn’t be happier with the Built Right upper control arms… all tig welded cromoly and look amazing on the truck!

 

Absolutely love how this thing drives now

 

New magnuson kit was unveiled today and I got my preorder in!

 

Truck looks proper and the brake rotors aren't even worn in yet. Nice work!
