What options do you wish you would have gotten or have found to be too much?

Trading in my Ram 1500 limited diesel for a 2024 Tundra Limited iforce max. I know the Ram Limited is more like the Tundra Platinum, but I haven’t seen enough from the Platinum to justify the difference. This Ram is great, but the diesel maintenance has cost me enough to justify trading it in.

Since my Ram has every option besides the heads up display, I was wondering what options you guys would prefer to have or have found to be useless. I’m currently looking at the $5,500 Limited TRD Off-road package.

Edit: I’ve been a Toyota person for years. Took a chance on Ram in summer 2022 and the up to three months wait time for service appointments broke me. Back to Toyota I go!

Edit 2: Put money down on a 2024 Limited with the max package TRD Off-road plus the JBL Speakers. Unfortunately, the truck I want is apparently a unicorn, can’t believe they don’t have a package with the 12 speaker JBL and power package. No idea when it will get in but I’m excited. Never leaving Toyota again.

I'd like to have heated/vented seats and dual zone climate control, but not enough that I wanted the trim level price.

What trim did you end up with? Vented seats have become a must have inSoCal. I use those more than AC.

    Mine's a 2.5 Gen '19 (I found a great deal on a low mile CPO and I wanted the 5.7)

I have the SR5 w/TRD OR package. I had a '00 version of the same thing before this, so even this trim is way more bells and whistles than I had before.

    1794 or platinum trim.
Air suspension /AVS (not Trd off-road package) as I don't off-road and avs is do nice at absorbing road imperfections

I have found my seats to be "scrunchy" due to the heated/cooling option. I believe the front seats don't have enough cushion or body to them due to the air vents for the cooling feature. My back seats are much more comfortable and they don't have the vented option.

I want from a loaded 2015 Ram Laramie to a 2022 SR5 premium. I lost a few options in the conversion. I was only concerned about the ventilated seats but made it throw a 100 degree Southern summer not really noticing the loss. The auto wipers on the Rams were always running the wrong speed or slow to respond. I am only driver so only miss memory when the apparently dwarf porter at the dealer drives it 100 feet and manages to adjust every single setting in 10 secs. I have found the Softex to be as comfortable as the Ram leather and as or more heat distributing

The only thing thing I really miss was the mucho excellent rear under seat storage covers in the Ram that expands to create a totally flat load floor. Toyo totally missed the boat not copying that.

I drive diesels for 15 years. The occasional fuel spikes to $5, ever increasing cost of service, avd service delays due to dealers only having a single certified diesel mechanic became too much. I finally threw in the towel the last service when there was no availability in Chrysler or retail channels for the new oil they mandated for the Eco D
Had to drive 50 miles for an oil change at a Ram dealer who also owned a Ford dealer who had it in their supply chain.

As I have gotten older I pretty much known what is must have and a strong want. Not worth an extra 15k for massaging seats, nut ticklers, and automatic teeth flossers. There were s verbal options on my Ram that were barely used

Thank you Sir, that helps me not miss it so much!

It's actually not so bad without them... having come from a '00 Tundra before this, the Heat/AC start blowing Hot/Cold SOOO much faster!!
There was plenty of chilly mornings in the old truck when the heater would just be getting hot right as I arrived at my destination.

TRD Sport Premium is a good mix of some creature comforts. Like some of the others, ventilated seats would've been nice but I would only really need them for a couple months out of the year. Also a rear locker I suppose but I never used it on my Tacoma.

Welcome to the club! I have a Platinum with avs and wouldn't give it up. Past F150 was getting to harsh for my bones then other things happened.
I have to have all black interior, power running boards, mono color, no need for any off road packages as I would have to go up to the 1794 so the Platinum is the perfect fit. Toyota does has some really good packages.
I really injoy the whole rear window going down and the engineers really got the aeros smoothed out as I could never drive with the majority of windows down in the other brand as it was so uncomfortable.
The double pano moonroof I really like as I havnt had one for decades and once I stated using it I was very happy with my choice.
Again welcome to the forums and lower maintenance cost!

    Heated steering wheel.

Certainly not a necessity by any stretch, but IMO to come with both heated and cooled seat yet no heated steering wheel.. That is a little goofy on Toyota's part. With that said, I preferred my truck without the sunroof and having to fore-go a heated steering wheel, than have the sun-roof that eventually leaks, rattles, etc, when doing truck things.

I live in snow belt and the only option I really wish Toyota offered is rear locking dif or limited slip dif that you can use in 2wd or 4Hi like Ford offers. There are a lot of days where 4x4 is overkill and uses more gas but a rear limited slip would be very helpful on wet, snowy and icy roads.

That locking diff worked great but took forever to disengage as I have to make a sharp turn out of my drive way and the road was clear so I got bound up on the rear making that turn-bad feeling for sure. I'll test the "auto lsd" and see how this works. My past 2012 sr5 seemed to work pretty good. Off road yes but not useful for us highway princesses.

    Lots of stuff!
I have had my TRD Offroad Tundra for about a year and haven't used the 4 wheel drive at all other than to try it. I probably wouldn't have gotten the OR package other than the 360 cameras which are a must with the size of this truck.

I am also thinking that the hybrid would have been a good addition.

I also like the blue light strip in the higher models.

Maybe a better stereo than the one we get in the Canadian Limited trim.

So I should have gotten a Platinum Hybrid or Capstone :)

Three years ago, I went from a 2007 F150 Lariat with all the interior goodies, but had that 5.4 Triflin motor, to a 2017 1 owner, CPO, SR5 SC. I absolutely do not miss that motor, and especially having to change random coil packs/plugs on the side of the road. Only times my Tundra has been in a shop have been for service/maintenance (due to warranty requirements; shop I use treats me well and I just don't have the room to do it) and tire rotation and balance. I do, however, miss some of the lariat level goodies, but not enough to trade the Tundra or spend the $ to get them.

Limited trim and up have to heated/ventilated seats. Love ‘em. I thought the electronic rear view mirror came with the PVM/BSM package in the TRD OR package. NOT! Have to get the highest priced TRD package for it (mirror is almost $3K alone) I really wanted it for my wife as it eliminates all the blind spots alongside the truck. Was bummed when my truck arrived without it but I wasn’t waiting another 4-5 months. BSM indicators and convex mirror add-ons will have to do

Recently got a 23 Limited 4x4 with the Load Leveling Air Suspension. That's the only thing I would rather not have. Only because I'd like to put a small 2-3 inch lift on it and upgrade the shocks.

With the Air Suspension it's going to be a bit difficult to find a good lift. Most everything I find is not compatible with the Air Suspension. Had I known that before buying I would have waited for one without this rear suspension.

Everything else is great. Love the heated and vented seats, heated steering wheel, and love the smooth transmission.

    1. avs (dont really care for this myself since the wife 99% drive it and we never pull or load up the the bed, pretty much a waste of money. also from my pov, our 2018 did better on bumps around town better than the avs system even after the tsb was done and even on comfort setting)
    2. hud (i dont usually use it but thats just me, nice gimmick but after 6-8 months, still forget its there)
    3. memory seats are a must (2 people using the same vehicle or for those nut bags as service that change the seat settings. also great for winter time for when you have to wear bulky winter jackets and it changes your seating position vs summer wear)
    4. vented seats (good and bad. great for cooling off, bad for the fan noise being 10x worse than our 2018)
    5. non HV underseat rear storage vs our 2018 that didnt have any
    6. heated steering wheel, the wife cant live w/o it now
    7. hate the hood view, really cant tell the edges of the hood are to gauge front end reference points.
    8. really hate the V grooves on the hood during winter, trying to get snow off the hood sucks from the sides
    9. oem mud flaps really suck if you dont keep oem size wheels/tires. on the 2018 at least i didnt have to swap them out on aftermarket wheels/tires
    10. oem automatic running boards (initially didnt want them since snow/slush buildup during winters here really negates them. rather have static real running boards for rock panel protection. living with them for a winter wasnt as bad as i thought, but still no rock panel protection)
    11. blueprint color not really fond of, but its the only blue they had and the wife demands blue. waiting for a blazing blue or speedway blue to come back to swap to when they come out i hope
    12. heated seats are great, seem faster than our 2018
    13. warms up a lot faster than our 2018 but that could be due to the turbo's on getting interior heat
    14. love the digital MID screen and the semi config options. pretty much leave the temp gauges up on the right side and dont run a torque app screen anymore
    15. get techstream/carista (for a month) and changes your settings that you cant change via the 14in screen.
    16. get a matte screen protector for the 14in screen to cut down on glare/reflections
    17. get a matte plastic insert protector for the shifter area
    18. get husky x-act liners, the oem coverage is lacking for harsh winters (husky imo are more pliable than the WT's)
    19. power in all aspects vs the 2018, night and day better on the 3rd gen. from a stop, mashing the gas pedal i accidently chirped the tires. have to remember to not do that to make the tires last 5 years (we only had 43k miles on our 2018 when we traded it in after 5 years and still had 1/4 tread left)
    20. transmission in all aspects better, but its a 10 spd so it can hunt trying to downshift for the right gear when you need power

I like your write up - especially the ones I quoted as they relate to us about the same
    • We don't really care for the AVS, the only reason we have it on the truck is this truck was on the lot and I got a pretty good deal on it. Makes it a bit difficult to add a lift, but there are some options I'm finding
    • Love the memory seats, vented seats, heated steering wheel
    • I'm with you on the hood. I typically use the middle of the hood to help align myself in the road, this is going to be a learning curve.
    • What screen protector did you end up using? I'm seeing some folks are using a glass type screen from Spigen and the Screen ProTech
    • I need to get some floor mats, I'm liking the reviews from the Husky x-act liners
    • Coming from a '21 Tacoma, I love the power this thing has! The transmission is much smoother too! Haven't ran into the same gear hunting as the Tacoma which is nice, but also haven't driven it enough to see it hunt gears downshifting yet - only 140 miles on the ODO

Readylift has a 2in lift for air ride trucks. It's an airbag spacer bracket, shock and bump stop extenders

I have a 22 Platinum w/AVS, HUD and power steps

I can do without the HUD...have felt no true need for it.
AVS has been great, I can switch over to comfort when driving down a bumpy hwy and it makes the ride a lot smoother...switch over to Sport + when going up to Big Bear and it greatly reduces body roll
Vented seats hardly vent, but its better than nothing...can't drive the wife's Tesla during the summer w/o preconditioning the cab for 30 mins
The glare/reflection from the hood is horrible...I'd gladly give up the styling there to solve that....had never experienced this before
Really wish we had better interior lighting. Not sure about non-pano roof trucks, but interior lighting is lacking big time, even with the ambient lighting

That's what I'm thinking of doing. Silly question that I've not seen asked, or in any of their videos, I can upgrade the rear shocks to some Icons you think? I'm not looking for the remote reservoir ones, just to upgrade to something else.

Also, if money wasn't an issue, I've seen a Coil Over Conversion Kit and heard of some folks doing this but not seen any posts about it. How silly route be?

Braking assist. It's never actually helped me. It just kicks in when I'm maneuvering around garage doors or snow banks.

You can upgrade the shocks, yes. If you have the AVS equipped shocks, you can also simply disconnect them and you wont get any error codes.

I noticed the interior lighting the other night... It's terrible at best. It needs a dome light in the center or something else. What's there is not extremely helpful

thanks! lol, I didn't know the shocks could have connectors, I'll need to double check those. sounds simple enough though

used the protech matte screen protector (we get very bad sun glare at sunrise/sunset being so far north). bought the kit plus the extra set. ended up using the 2nd set on the MID screen as i had to redo it after a month cause the bubbles didnt go away. ended up letting the 2nd application sit for like 3-4 months before the bubbles disappeared.

dont get the full kit from protech as the protectors for the hvac controls and the shifter area are junk imo.

Thanks! If you had to do it again would you buy the same protectors or another brand?

Thanks for the suggestion on the HVAC and shifter protectors. I'll get them somewhere else or not at all

I have an SR5 that has heated seats and dual climate control. Those were "must haves" for my wife.

    What I wish for:
Heated steering wheel (I'd personally trade that for the heated seat)
    Vented seats
    Larger screen display
Power ports (SR5 has the one 12v on top of the dash, 1 USBA on the front of the dash, and 1 USBA and 1 USBC in the center console). Not having a normal power plug plus any outlets in the back is kinda lame. I've run a 4-port hub through the center console to the rear, but it's pretty egregious in 2023)
Power mirrors (If you have a small garage, tight parking spaces, or regularly use a car wash)

Have had platinum tundras prior (14, 16 and 19) and wouldnt settle for anything below that, so got a 1794 trd off road. Not a single option I wish I had gotten vs what I got. Power boards would have been nice, but would rather have the trd offroad package vs those. Loaded truck downgrading is hard... buy a higher trim!
