Are we aware of any issues with the AVS suspension on the new Tundra's?

What's the approximate life expectancy on these Toyota AVS / air bag suspensions? 5 years? 10 years?

What are the common things to break with AVS/air suspension on Toyota's and how expensive does the repair get?

Trying to decide between AVS or TRD suspension on a new 2024 Hybrid.

    Thanks!

The base system is very similar to the rear air suspension on my 05 Sequoia. I replaced the bags around 210,000. Also had to replace a small arm that attaches to height sensor at that time. My 22 Tundra Limited has base air suspension without the AVS. Very simple system and it works awesome. Great ride and no sag when pulling our boat. Hopefully someone else can add an opinion about AVS part of the higher trim versions of air suspension.

I haven't heard or seen anything negative, only praise for the system. It's an option I avoided due to added complexity and now I really regret not getting it. I'm going to have to add aftermarket airbags to kill the sag when towing the boat which is about the only time I drive the truck.

I think its too early to tell. I would not have purchased a Tundra if it didn't have AVS b/c Tundras sag too much when towing.

I love my AVS system, but they can be tough to find.

    Kap,

get the avs and air bag suspension, you won’t be disappointed, rides awesome in comfort and then you can dial all the way to sport plus and let it rip, it adjusts steering , suspension, shifting etc

the load level works awesome as well, I towed 600 miles recently , loaded the wagon and it rode perfect and was nice and level.

these systems have been around for a long time in other models, etc,

highly recommended, you’ll be kicking yourself later if you don’t get it again, much much better and more functional than some shocks on a trd model

anyway , good luck in your search and the newer builds are great as I have stated before , mine is solid

I have the Limited with the ride level rear air suspension and tow a a 6000 lb. camper. Works great, no sag and the truck rides very well. Towed over 5k miles this year and no problems.

AVS does nothing for sag... Air bags do. Two separate systems.

OP I have the bags and AVS and love it. I like the stiffer steering, and comfort suspension.

By the way, I've been looking but don't see ANY Capstone Tundras with AVS option available... It seems that dozens of capstones around me have regular suspension...

Are they not making Capstone with AVS at this time? I mostly see platinum with avs and very few 1794

I don't think the capstone comes without it.

I mentioned that problem in my post as well. On the Capstone / 1794 / Platinum, you need the advanced package that bundles the AVS and airbags together. I found it really tough to find AVS and the high end trims together. I settled on exterior color to get the rest of the combination right.

    Yep...
I can find AVS on lots of Platinum around my area, but 1742 with brown interior is not available... Closest one is like 10 hour drive

And absolutely no capstone with AVS/advanced package , which isn't terrible as black/white interior is a deal killer for me

for someone that DOESNT tow for 99% of the time the avs imo rides worse than our 2018 platinum. comfort wallows over bumps, and normal and above it thunks way harder than our 2018 even after the TSB was done.

Im assuming you’re talking about air ride, not avs.

avs since i have platinum with avs+hud. the tsb helped dampen the thumps but its still worse than our 2018.

tried to like the comfort mode but the wallowing is more annoying than running normal or higher modes and the thumps.

edit: the load leveling really doesnt affect much when you dont tow 99% of the time from what i can tell.

wow, you and I have 100% differing experiences, I can even fathom how someone can think a old gen rides better, wow.

I was bottoming out at first but I had them adjust within spec and it rides AWESOME now

I'll take an air ride truck vs leaf springs any day. Yes, off the lot the ride is too low, but once you adjust the levers, you're golden.

100%, I can't believe how nice this thing rides for a truck, outstanding.

towing/hauling was also much more stable

I test drove 2024 platinum AVS couple weeks ago and it rode veeery nicely - all bumps and holes were absorbed nicely and quietly.

If you are worried about reliability, Lexus has used very similar systems on their vehicles, and they have been highly reliable! I run an Asian Specialty/Toyota/Hybrid shop in California, and we probably do not see an issue with their system, but once a year on all the Lexus we work on!

I am also looking for a 1794 hybrid with AVS, tow mirrors in white and the dealers can't find one. I am talking to a dealer to put in a special build request for one of their allotted Tundra's to that dealer

My barber has a cousin who's paperboy read on Facebook that AVS is failing left and right....

I have AVS and I think it's one of the best features of the truck.

So, I'm still trying to figure out this system on my Platinum. Doesn't the level automatically return to it's default level if you adjust it to your liking and it decides it's not where it should be? Is there a way to keep it at your preferred height setting?

Adjusting the air ride levers under the truck sets the "default" higher

I didn't know that. Pretty cool. I'd like my truck to be about an inch higher in the back. Is that something easy to do, or does a dealer need to do it?

It works really well too. Every time I put a trailer on or >750lbs in the bed I wonder why all my pick ups didn't have this.
The mag valve shocks also work well. They pretty much eliminate the typical empty bed skip when you hit bumps going around curves. AVS is a must do package.
