Looking for some suggestions. My tailgate was dropping rapidly so I replaced the gas strut with a new OEM one. It helped some but it still drops quickly - more than I would expect. Is there something else I should be looking at? Appreciate any help - great forum btw!

Never mind - on closer inspection I realized the bushing on the lower left hinge is completely gone. New hinge time.

There is a thread on here in regards to that bushing that includes part numbers

There are secondary strut kits available as well to improve the entire design. Find the one that has two (both sides) and it will help prevent the hinge from cracking to begin with. Only downside is the gate goes down quite gently and a bit slowly.

Take your time getting the bolts out that hold that hinge it's very easy to strip them. I used some PB blaster and a little torch

I’ve looked for a kit with two struts but never found one for the Tundra. Do you have one installed?

Well, managed to get it fixed. Joe333x, you were absolutely correct - getting the bolts out was a nightmare. Now closes perfectly - did have to paint the hinge. One more question, on inspection it looks like the bushing that fits into the tailgate on the right (passenger) side bottom is shot as well. Having trouble finding it on the parts diagram, anyone have the part number or a link? Thanks much.

Thanks for the quick response - I'm actually looking for the bushing that is in the tailgate itself on the right side vs. the actual right hinge. (hope this makes sense)

Here's what I'm referring to, you can see the bushing at the bottom of the tailgate - it rides on the hinge. Helpful? Thanks

Ok, so now I'm confused. Do you by chance have a pic of the hinge and the location it fits in the tailgate? Did they change the configuration/hinge and eliminate the need for the plastic bushing in the tailgate? Mine is a 2016 so I assume it's the same. Maybe I'm being a dim bulb - wouldn't be the first time. Thanks

I broke two of those, one right after the other. I think it was due to minor damage to the bumper that made the tailgate not fit 100% right. I did a little bending and banging and it hasn't happened again since.

Found a better pic. So you have to buy the whole hinge to get the bushing?
