Does anyone know if the service records listed on Toyota's service records are entered manually or from the computer? I was unable to access the service records for my 05 until the day after I received the title in the mail. Upon perusing the records, I could not help but notice that the mileage listed on the title and recorded on the odometer was substantially different than listed on Toyota's service records. Sold to me as 168k, last recorded by Toyota 2020 298k. I also noted that the rear diff seal leak and bad rear diff that was sold to me as a "tight bearing" was diagnosed and customer refused repair back in 2019. I'm as angry as a hornet right now.

Sold to you by whom? There are laws against odometer tampering. And sold to you with an odometer statement signed by the seller? What does the dash say? Have you looked at a car fax for the truck?

Techstream pulls the information directly from the vehicle without any manual entry of the mileage.

There is a system that some Toyota dealerships use called CDK and that is manually entered.

See if you can get the past few service records and if the mileages are all around 168k (recently) then it could have been tampered with.

Sold to me by a small town dealership in Ohio. There are 16 dealer service records. In 2014 the mileage was listed at 142k, next record in 2016 has it at 180k. There are 4 more records after, all with increasing mileage numbers. Toyota dealer last recorded mileage was in November 2020 @ 298k. Truck came from Florida, VIN check there shows title status as "cancelled" and mileage entry as "exempt". My Ohio title states 162k (typo in OP) and reads as "actual".

    Edit: Dash reads 162k.

Sounds like odometer fraud to me. Unless you signed a disclosure about the odometer not being accurate

if it was fraud, i’m guessing that it happened before (or right before) the small town dealership acquired it.

    Hmm....the plot thickens.

It could have been a salvage title and is why the title is showing as cancelled.

If you send me your VIN I can plug it in to my Toyota system and see if it pulls up as a salvage vehicle.

That was my thought as well. There’s always LOTS of salvage vehicles that come swimming out of florida and into the hands of unsuspecting buyers in other states.

I did a Google of 2020 hurricanes and I guess it was the year that Hurricane Sally shoved it up Floridas ass. It could have been a casualty of a hurricane.

Sounds like you got forked, hank.
    (Sorry, couldn't help myself)

When I bought my truck in Auburn AL, I was pissed they marked the mileage as "exempt", but apparently it's normal there. For liability reasons, they said "Any vehicle more than 10 years old, AL allows us to write EXEMPT into the mileage box and it's no longer recorded. We also make the customer sign an AS-IS agreement."

IIRC from my time in FL, they also use EXEMPT if there's some sort of mileage discrepancy. I think @hank.forker may have a legitimate case on this one to get a full refund on the truck and moneys due. I presume he needs to contact his state/local Consumer Protection Division and ask who they need to speak to in a case like this. I would do this WITHOUT contacting the dealership who sold the truck to you, frankly. I personally wouldn't give them a chance to make it right unless you're feeling particularly kind.

No they told me to pound sand when I found the third member needed rebuilt. Now I will probably go nuclear. It's a shame really as I am a forgive and forget type of guy. Slimy bastard probably routinely bones his customers. I find it difficult to believe he had no knowledge of the issues he passed on to me and I will be consulting a lawyer.

I really hate this for you. It's hard to keep faith in humanity. I believe the mileage for our trucks is stored in the cluster and not the ECM. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I would imagine it's very easy to buy a used low mile cluster and swap it out. Again, I hate this for you.

Unrelated but how did you get your tabs in CDK to be different colors? Mine are all standard white.

Left click the tab to open it. Right click the tab. Scroll down to tab color. Select color and save. Then from SDL, right click and scroll to save and save that view. It's been years. You may also have to save the Desktop view under the desktop dropdown in the top right to make it load like that every time.

Sometimes state law will trump that. At least the dealership I bought my 1GT in Alabama told me Alabama law, the cutoff was 10yrs, 12yrs, something like that. I want to say it was 10yrs, I thought they were full of shit, but remember looking it up back then.

    Naw they weren't.

10 years here in OR and WA as well - after that you don't have to write anything in on the title. Of course I've always written it in and never once has it been reported back when I get my title in the mail - the DMV just lists it as exempt once it's over 10 years old.

OP I feel for you on this one and will be following this too.

*** However; don't forget that if you don't end up seeing the justice you want that you still (likely) bought yourself a decent machine. I haven't seen a build/buy thread from you or anything but sans any major rust, the rest is likely to hold up. 300k isn't as bad as it sounds once you've driven "300k" for a while and you start to build confidence in "300k". You realize it's just a number as you get to know your machine and replace the components that need replacing.

The deal here is more about fraud. If they charged you more based on the fact it was a 168k miles truck and had anything in the ad or marketing that pointed to the 168k miles, then you still have a case. It's a 298k miles truck and should be marketed and priced accordingly.
