Techstream Link?

I feel a little silly asking being a retired Toyota tech but anyone have a working link to Techstream? I use to have it on my laptop but deleted it when I went to Nissan for a couple of years. I'm back now with a Tundra and need to program a key.

Thanks for the replies. No worries. I found a working version I forgot I had on a old laptop.

 

The VX Diag website has a good version that works with 32 and 63 bit platforms. It uses a hacked exe. file to bypass login. I've been using it for over 5 years with no issues.

Whether or not you use legit or hacked, I recommend the obdii VXDiag cable interface. I have done a lot with it, and would say it is on par with the mongoose/xhorse devices and it isn't nearly as expensive.

I've applied some software updates, sensor calibration and other things (most advance features require paying for daily access to Techstream). Works great for TPMS programming as well.

 

How did you go about apply update files? Will TechStream download them? I have the files someone on here posted for the trailer disconnect update but have been a bit nervous to try applying them.

 

With the Techstream legal subscription, it gave me access to files I needed (only done it a few times, the last time for calibrating a sensor). I would never do it with the cheapo cables, but have been happy with the VXDiag.

I wouldn't apply updates to a new Tundra under warranty as the dealer will usually do that. I've done it on older rigs that are out of warranty. If I screw something up, so be it, but I have saved a lot programming keys, sensors, and other updates without paying a dealer...

 

I've programed keys with an Amazon version without any problem as well, used it change a few features, reset the ATF thermal degradation, haven't tried to download anything though. If you do a 2 day TIS subscription, does that allow you to use TechStream?

 

Yep. IIRC, it was $25 for two days access.

I looked into access for programming 3rd gen keys, but I don't qualify so I found a locksmith that would get me the security codes in real time. Worked great.

 

So you downloaded a copy of TechStream, from VXDiag and were able to log into it with an official TiS log in and use it with an unofficial cable? I might go that route if that will work.

Thanks for providing some help on this. I need to do some Techstream type work on my Tundra and have nothing beyond a laptop at the time.

if I read correctly, I can purchase a cord thingy and a 2-day $25 license to use over a weekend. That should be plenty of time!


If I need to do this again in the future, can I just resubscribe for another $25?

 

You only need to subscribe if you need to download updates. Most things can be accomplished with the copy you are given with the cord that you can find on Amazon. Im not 100% on the difference but the cord I got was firmware 2.0.4 and then there is also 1.4.1.

 

Maybe I was looking at things wrong…. Please correct me if I’m wrong (happens more than I’d like to admit…).

Procure Techstream software. I’m a little confused on the availability and cost of this. Input would be appreciated!

Buy appropriate cord. I have an HP Tuner MPVI, but assume I’ll need something else for TS. No worries there.

Basically most cheap cables come with Techstream with a hacked exe file that gives you free offline access. Some people worry about using hacked software due to virus risks, which is understandable. I used the vxdiag version for years before finally retiring my laptop to be a techstream only device.

I dont recommend the cheap xhorse knockoff cables (clear/see-through cheap cables). They dont support all functions and the software they provide is not great.

A real xhorse/mongoose cable is the best option (but expensive). The VXdiag is a good compromise that is less than $100 (I think I paid $80, but have not checked pricing lately).

You can use the hacked software for a lot, and subscribe when you need cloud based support (downloads, etc) from TIS.

Always make sure your computer has good battery (I keep mine plugged in as well) to avoid a shjtdown mid-software update. Good luck!

 

If you look online you will find Mini VCI cables for sale, that is the cable the majority of people on fourms are using to access TechStream. There are two different cables available, one is cheaper and uses firmware 1.4.1, the other cable which seems to be harder to find now, I got mine on Amazon years ago uses firmware 2.0.4. Apparently the 1.4.1 cable does not allow some functions to work, but it seems vehicle dependant on which functions work or dont. I know so far with my 2.0.4 cable I have been able to program keys, run the brake bleed program, reset thermal degradation, disabled the seatbelt chime, disabled the steering wheel and seat moving on entry and exit. I have no experience with the 1.4.1 cable or the VXDiag cable. The way the process worked for me is I bought the cable on Amazon, the seller then sent me the software and license key. You only need to subscribe to TIS if you want to download updates which I cannot confirm work or not with my cable, the update opens with a program embedded in TechStream called Calibration Update Wizard, the files use an extension of .cuw, I tried it not connected to the truck and it seemed as though it would have worked.

To do basic adjusting like chimes, steering wheel/seat movement for exit, TPMS, and such, I don’t need a subscription.

I need to buy a “cable” that is version 2.0.4 and somewhere around $100.

What do I need to put on my laptop to make this all work? For example, I had to download HP software before I could start using my HP Tuner.


It’s a bit embarrassing, because I work with a computer all day. Key word is WITH. I work with a computer, not on a computer. I rarely need to get new software…

Dont quote me on the 2.0.4 because you may be able to do all that with the 1.4.1 I just am not sure since I've only used the 2.0.4 cable. What will happen is you'll buy a cable and then the seller will send you the installation files and drivers for TechStream, and give you a key to enter which will make TechStream active, it will show something like 5000 days til expiration. You will not need a subscription to do any adjustments or use TechStream because it will show that you have an active subscription. The only thing you would need a subscription for is to download update files from the TIS website which can be applied through TechStream.

 

A quality scan tool is a grate alternative if you figure in the cable cost and dedicated PC for TS it maybe better to go with a scan tool.

It would seem the VXDiag that @40man mentioned is a viable option especially now that the 2.0.4 cables seem hard to find and non existent on Amazon/Ebay. If you go to thier site they have TechStream with a patch you can download right there and if their drivers work easy thats half the battle. For reference i picked up my 2.0.4 cable for 59.99 on Amazon in 2019.

@40man Does all the customization options work with the vxdiag? Seen a post on another site saying it did not work.

I did find a 2.0.4 cable but its on AliExpress so not sure how much I'd trust that, it was nice when you could find them on Amazon. I wonder why the 1.4.1/1.4.8 cables are everywhere but the 2.0.4 are so are to find now, maybe due to chip issues? You'd think the bootleggers would want to capitalize on the demand for 2.0.4 cables.

I was able to do all the customization I wanted and program TPMS as well on my 2016 Land Cruiser (no need on Tundra as it self learns TPMS). I have also calibrated sensors and done some software updates through TIS. I've only customized Tundra features so far.

Note that I have the wired version. I'd be nervous to use the wifi (wireless version).

 

Good to know! Theres so much different information out there on all these different cables and what they support or dont.

 

I was able to Customize with a hacked copy of Carista too. I keep it in my car at all times in case I need to clear a code. Small and simple to use.

 

This thread got me curious about my cable so I hooked it up and under the Xhorse updater it shows that its 2.0.4 but when you open TechStream down the bottom it shows 1.4.7. I ran the DLC3 Cable Utility Check and it fails on K and L lines but passes the rest. Not sure what if anything all this means but so far I haven't had an issues with what I have used the cable for. I believe the K line fail might be because the Tundra uses CAN-H+L? Im not really sure but I seen another guy in a Prius forum that only had K-line working and the CANs failed because the Prius apparently doesn't use them, he said even his actual mongoose cable failed the cans and passed the K just as the mini vci.

Edit: After some further investigation it seems TechStream might display 1.4.6 because that is the driver being used to recognize the cable but since its working I'm not going to mess around with trying to find a 2.0.4 driver unless somewhere here has one that can a confirm it works.

 

Good God! I am so struggling to get this running.

I've downloaded V.18 techstream from VXDiag's site. I think i have drivers downloaded for the Nano, but for the fucking life of me, I cannot get a patch to download without every warning in the world going off... I'm using a 64-bit Win7 Pro machine that I don't use for much of anything. Everything I have is supposed to be compatible, but I cannot get through this.

Anyone want to teach me how to do this step by step for $50??? I'm serious. I've been working on this all god damn morning and I am so frustrated. It's about to all go in the trash can.

When you open techstream and open the VIM select tab does your VIM show? On mine you can see my OpenPort 2.0 is selected.
