Yeah, I gotta look into it. So far I’m trying to take the “as little as possible” route. The only “work” I’ve done to it is transmission oil change, shifter bushings, and wiper blades.

And even if I make the thing dead quiet on the inside, it would take lots more work to make it actually comfortable for long trips. I gotta run the numbers on fuel costs on Tundra vs. Honda. It might just be worth it to drive the truck. What should I expect at 70-75mph, like 18mpg? 19?

I get 16.8mpg hwy. sticker for hwy was 17mpg I believe and that’s the govt cycle at lower speeds. If you’re not lifted, run passenger tires in all season, not all terrains and wax it, you might break 18-19 highway.

Cool. I'll have the truck in a week or so and I'll take note of what it gets then. I got a scangauge for the truck, as well as this mount for it:
    Tundra Scangauge.jpg

So I'll be able to see what it gets. Based on my stock tires, stock height, and pretty efficient driving style, I'm hoping for 18. Maybe I'm optimistic. Here's the link for anyone who wants to print the mount: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5492331

My 4wd/4.7L averages 16.5 at 75 steady on stock wheels and tires (thus accurate speed/odo)

Nah, they’re too busy playing Fortnite on the classified network so I have to use my phone in an unclassified setting instead.

Hey, Bill, I've been doing research for a couple of years (still haven't found a solution I love), trying to get a workable plan for 2-factour authentication, but don't want to use a cell phone or app. We've had too many problems with connectivity when we travel internationally, or to the wilds of Idaho and Arkansas. I finally bought a 2 sim phone for international travel, which could allow me to use a locally purchased sim anywhere we travel, but also to receive texts and calls on my "home" U.S. number ... except that the point is not to have to pay exorbitant fees to use a U.S. phone provider abroad. Another consideration is, the only phones I could find with 2-sim capabilities are Chinese manufactured with Android bloatware-- I'm not excited to trust using it for financial stuff. Finally, I prefer not to take my "real" phone traveling because of the potential for invasive extractive phone searches at border entries.

Kinda zeroing in on Yubikeys... pretty expensive for 2 to have a back up. But... is the best option for avoiding reliance on a phone app-?

What I cannot find, and prefer, is a printed card that can be laminated and carried everywhere with no concern for damage caused by water or rough handling. I still have one issued by my employer years ago that I use to access our internal systems using remote computers. But no one... including my employer... has been able to point me toward a source for this that I could pair with other systems.

Anyway, probably several of you guys could give me some direction; I'll appreciate help from anyone with experience or tips. @KNABORES; @shifty`; who else should I be asking?

I’m no expert in it myself but we as government contractors are mandated to use an RSA encryption key fob or card (as you saw the card). Our hard drives are also encrypted and require a long passphrase to boot up. If you lose the key fob or card, they’ll Fedex you a new one anywhere in the world.

It’s basically a psuedo-random number generator that’s in sync with the computer software. You enter the 6 digit number followed by your password which changes every 10-15 seconds on the fob to get into the computer. It also secures a VPN connection through the key card or fob.

Wow, they search phones at border crossings? Even if hidden in luggage and turned off?

    (Edited for clarity)

There are providers other than Yubikey but all the ones we’ve deployed at work (ActivIdentity, RSA SecureID are the big ones), at least with the way we used them, required some kind of infra to back up the authentication and account-linking piece your resident non-technology entity probably won't have. It’s easier to find out of box solutions today; we’re all Microsoft now and use MFA, which technically works with code generators (MFA hardware tokens/OATH tokens). Hell, I think you can even use Google Authenticator with the those tokens as well - you don't need any special infra.

Yubikey is bonus b/c it is widely accepted and easy to use.

Not as a matter of course, no. But every country, including our own, has policies that allow searches under certain (any) circumstances. Here law enforcement at border entries can do full extractions of all data and contents, once a legal threshold for such a search is met. We have high legal thresholds to preserve individuals' privacy, but much lower thresholds for "terrorism" related searches. And we have decent tech. Other countries may have lower legal thresholds or tech, but yes, there are a myriad circumstances that travelers' electronics may be searched. And because many countries, including the USA, search bags checked or otherwise, any could be discovered.

I can definitely see not wanting to travel internationally with personal devices, that for sure sucks. I guess it's been a while for me, shame on me for lack of global awareness.

I haven’t had a need to do so personally. I’m one of those people who doesn’t even do online banking and still have a passbook savings account. :D

I move money around via telephone banking instead.

Not sure if it helps, but my post was overly vague b/c was waiting in the doc's office, and I got autocorrected a few times so I edited for clarity. Hope it helps.

(PS - biopsy came back finding half a dozen different cysts and all were either precancerous [2] or benign, including the huge one which was apparently growing out of the bottom of my tonsil. So shifty lives to ride another day, without any tonsils so hopefully no future risk of tonsillar lymphoma/NHL).

Never mind. I read it again. Yeah, eSIM won't work for international travel as described. So forced to rely on Chinese manufactured tech that will accommodate 3rd world phone SIM cards.

This evening we attended the Lewisville Texas homecoming parade. This is a tradition for us. Every float throws candy into the crowd. The more that you cheer, the more candy you get. Every year I managed to lose my voice, and fill an entire 5 gallon bucket for the kids to give out at Halloween:transformer:
