Question: I just bought a ‘22 Platinum from a large Toyota dealer in San Antonio 4 days ago. It has 23k miles but not certified. Carfax was clean, saw no issues and made the deal. But when I’m driving today I realized the HUD is blurry and once it started raining (first time it’s rained since I bought the truck) the auto wipers aren’t working either. I think distortion in the glass is causing both issues.

I had a blurry HUD with an 2012 BMW of mine that had an aftermarket windshield, so I looked down in the truck and sure enough, the windshield has been replaced with a Fuyou glass.

Question for you all is…since the truck is still under factory warranty is the dealership liable to fix the issues even if previous owner replaced the windshield? The only real fix is to replace the glass, so idk?!?

Did they sold you truck AS-IS in the contract? If yes, then chances are they may not help you.

By the way, I believe there's a huge backorder of Oem windshields... Or at least was few months ago where people waited for several months.

If no luck with the dealership, may try to call Toyota customer engagement to complain...

Or make sure that your car insurance has option for original Oem parts coverage (Farmers has it, but many don't...) and... Well see if current aftermarket window might have been scratched somewhere on the side by vandals and the only way to remove that long scratch is to replace that window...

Thanks for the heads up. I did buy As-Is, but wondering where factory bumper-to-bumper warranty plays into this?

I may just go in and play ignorant to the windshield, as I have no proof of replacement , and ask them to fix the issues under warranty and see where it lands.

It's not going to lead anywhere - they'll tell you that your truck has an aftermarket windshield and quote you $2k for the Oem one.

By the way, is the HUD display blurry is the only issue you're having? If so then it's not too bad!

Any leaks from the aftermarket windshield? Whistling or wind noise on the highway?

Change oil often... Every 5k, as there's the engine bearing issues popping up here and there...

I would try talking to the dealership who sold it to you and see if they may want to help you in good faith as you just bought that truck from them, and they didn't tell you that it had this issue... Not a great way to take care of their customers

Yeah, kinda what I figure, but Worth a shot at least.
The auto wipers aren’t working either, so kinda irritating.

That’s my plan. I’ve purchased 2 other vehicles there and my business partner is about to buy one too, so I might have a little leverage.

At least maybe they'll give you a break on the installation...

The factory windshield has a Morse Code Easter egg in the passenger corner - if it's there it's OEM glass (reads BADASS TRUCKS btw)

Is there tint on the windshield, 70% tint would be very hard to determine visually, but very possible it could make HUD blurry (I don't have HUD so can't confirm). You can tell if there is tint by looking for where it would end up by the rear view mirror.

OEM warranty isnt going to cover glass that was replaced. They'll diagnose the issue but since not a warranty issue they may do a diag and charge you.

23k miles. I would want to know when the truck entered service to have a date when the 3/36k bumper to bumper warranty is up.
Engine and drivetrain is a 5/60k warranty.

    No tint at all.
I’m pretty sure the HUD issue is caused my distortion in the glass, or they used a non-HUD glass that doesn’t have the reflective layer in it.
The rain sensor is more of a question. It appears to have clear visibility. Idk?

Truck entered service 6/22, so I’m still good with warranty.

I did purchase the Platinum cosmetic/windshield protection plan through the dealer, so if they won’t replace it under b2b warranty, the windshield may accidentally get destroyed and have to be replaced under the protection plan.
