What have you done to your 2.5 gen Tundra today?

Ok, the holes on this plate are ~1 inch. The Charger sockets I bought measure 1.125 inch. Quick work with a Dremel drum sanding bit (run it in a drill or it will cut too fast. Opened the hole to fit and done. If you don't want to have to make modifications, just pay attention to the hole mounting size for the charger sockets you choose.

 

I spent about 8 hours yesterday applying these and I'm loving the results! I tried using a buffer for the compound but didn't like the results I was getting so I ended up doing both all by hand. Eventually I want to level my
truck and put a sound system in it. My current tires have about 10-15k before I need new ones, anyone recommend some replacements that will look good with my wheels? I like the original tires but thought I'd shop around when it's time for new tires.

I wish "the fix" was to return the volume function back down to where the call answer/hang up is like my 2014 had. Not sure what the year was that they switched but I still push the call button to turn up the volume at least once a week if I'm not thinking about it and I've had my 19 for 18 months now

 

I have a 2017 and the volume button is where your call button is.

 

Must've been 18 when they updated the dash display stuff too & TSS etc

 

My 2016 has the volume where his call button is.

The holes are designed to be a match to the factory to allow the 12v to snap back in on either side and the toyota USB. The USB ports that fit without modification, specifically the USB port offered by Toyota. Example here : https://parts.camelbacktoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-electronics-dual-usb-power-port-pt97603201 I'm not sure if there is a USB-C offering from Toyota that is a direct fit however. I haven't tried enlarging the hole, but sounds like others have been able to with good results.

Edit: Other Toyota part numbers that are direct fit: 00016-00325 (Dual USB) & 00016-00225 (Dual USB w flip cover). I have the latter installed in mine.

What did you use? I read somewhere you can use the Meguiar's Ultimate Compound on headlights but I was scared to try it.

 

Thats exactly what I used, and then sealed it w some Meguiar's "headlight sealer"....my buddy is an auto detailer and recommended I use those products. Compared to the yellow, cloudy look the lights had before, I'm good w this.

 

Killer!! Wanting to do this to my cap but I've been a little nervous to pull out the drill. Can you share any details/tips on how you completed the install? Or did the instructions come with the Rhino rails?

 

Is the headlight sealer actually called headlight coating? That is all I could find online.

im trying to decide to add these or wire up the sockets to an inverter to get the fast charge going

 

yes, they will fast charge. they are a 65W charger for the USB-C port.
I'm not sure I'd put two of them on the same factory circuit and try using them both at the same time though (you have a single 15A fuse handles both power outlets in the center console)

 

Good point. I did not really consider overall current draw because I honestly don't expect these will get used much at all. I guess the fuse will tell the truth.

 

New front and back eibach 2.0 plus new needle bearing....the damn mystery noise on the driver side and the wobble still around. Doing alignment now...lol. the front is now 38 back 39inch

 

Very nice!! I have the same setup but now I want to level the front. Do you remember which way to turn to raise each side? I don't want to turn them a bunch and then realize I lowered them lol...

 

If u search youtube they have a video on it from eibach. Anyway i also did alignment. Less wobble but the mysterious noise still there. Dammit....

Has to be the simplest mod around (I know for some it might be a downgrade) but I did it to my 2006, then the 2007 right away, and now the 2020….

2” Industrial Velcro available at any hardware/big box……comes in length to cut to size as needed……

Picked out a spot on the dash that is out of the way and doesn’t impede anything. The soft plush side goes to the back of the “dumb” phone and the hard scratchy piece on the dash.

I think the piece that goes on the phone actually helps to protect it if on a table or anywhere a drink is spilled or liquid can contact the back of the phone…….it doesn’t absorb liquid either……another plus, if you do happen to drop your phone and it lands flat on its back it cushions it……neither of these things are reasons why I put it on, just ++’s after the fact…..every phone is different, so may not work. Mine happens to not get in the way of anything on the phone……Android Kyocera Brigadier

I forgot to take a picture of it on the Velcro in the horizontal position but you can also stick it on in that way for full screen video’s. The “Velcro on the dash mount” is also a way or work around to watch Spotify podcasts, YouTube or anything else the infotainment screen won’t let you see, or anything else on your phone.

I always referred to it as my redneck Bluetooth……

 

I cut up my last truck (Tacoma) so much that I have no hesitation taking a grinder or drill to vehicles now but I hear you. It is nerve racking and you can’t really re-do these types of things. Instructions from rhino rack come with the hardware package & are very straight forward. I recommend putting tape over the work surface to prevent tear out of the holes you drill & measure 12x and drill once per hole. Take your time and be sure that you have a middle line on the shell (I used string as a reference) so that your tracks are equi-distance from the middle and each other. Also be sure that you go through the thicker reinforced portion of the top of the shell instead of the thinner part (most shells have similar design im sure in the thickness). The holes absolutely should not cause any leaking especially if you add silicone to them when putting the screws through. And the kit comes with little adhesive squares that go over each hole also. Watch some YouTube videos & be sure you have all the tools you need. It’s fairly straightforward

I'll take a picture to show what I did, but I just crimped both hot and ground wires into male spade connectors and plugged into the OEM power socket connection.

As @RainMan_PNW mentioned, this does leave a potential for overcurrent on 15A circuit but I don't ever expect to have that much load and fuse will protect the circuit.

Looks great, thanks for the info. Wouldn't happen to have a pic of the wiring would ya. LoL. I also have the wireless charging tray in the console lid. I read the min requirements. It said they needed a minimum of 10A. I assume they would blow the attached inline fuse first if it went over 10A since the truck is a 15A, wouldn't it.
