Does anyone here with later model Gen 2.5 Tundra have a block heater? I am looking at installing a block heater in my 2021 and the dealer shows it requires three cords. So its obviously changed since my old 2008 Tundra, which had just a single cord.

Does it have the little port that you plug in the proprietary cable into at the bumper? I know my wife's 2022 Rav4 is like that. I'd prefer not to have to drill a hole in my bumper if I can avoid it.

Any clarification or pics from those who have one is appreciated.

I got the parts list from Toyota. Here is what they say I need:

    Premium Block Heater - PK5A4-89J11
    Cable - PK5A4-89J32
    Cable - PK5A4-89J22
    Cable - PK5A4-89J40

So does anyone know if this setup will have this type of port that I will have to install in my bumper. And if so, is there an alternate cord available?

I found a handful of threads by searching "engine block heater". I don't personally have experience on it though since I've never installed one. But you might find something in the search that could help you though.

Regardless of the plug type, you can sort of choose or modify the installation to relocate it. The bumper is good for many who forget to unplug before pulling away.

Thanks for the advice. I did some forum searching and found that the newer trucks do use the port style plug. This one truck has it installed in a spot in the bumper that I think would work fine. I just didn't want to drill a hole in my nice painted bumper. So I will likely just go with the OEM install, despite it's massive price increase. I found the invoice from my '08 Tundra and the block heater was less than half the cost of this new setup.

One more question. Has anyone ever done the DIY install of the newer style block heaters? I did the old one on my 2008, but it was straight forward. With this new setup there are multiple cables, and that plug port to install. I found these instructions for a RAV4, so I am assuming something similar exists for the Tundra.

Good luck, wish I could help, can't even get these parts from Toyota USA unless there's a workaround I don't know about. It's ridiculous we can't get this package or the parts in the northern tier of the US, especially Minnesota which is typically colder than most of southern Canada :(

I ordered mine online from Don Valley Toyota in Toronto. It a fair bit cheaper than my local dealer. I listed all the part numbers above, maybe you can order it as well if they will ship to the states?

If some doesn't have instructions or pics to show of their installation, I will take some when I do my install and post it on this thread later.

Thanks for the info, I may just suck it up sometime and drive the four hours to Winnipeg and grab the parts from a dealer there. Mizel go up there when the Wild are playing the Jets and catch a game while I’m at it

I ended up getting all the parts and doing the install. The kit for Toyota is excellent quality and the instructions are pretty comprehensive. They definitely vastly improved from the old style block heater I put in my '08 Tundra years ago, so I guess I can tolerate the higher price. The plug port goes near the oil cooler grille in the bumper, like the pic I posted earlier, but it's on the right side. It is very neat and subtle, much better than a cord hanging out of the grille. The very heavy duty armor cable goes through the rad support, runs past the air box, across the firewall and then down to the engine block at the rear left part of the engine. It even has a ground wire that you connect to the ground on the fender.

The only part of the job I didn't enjoy was trying to fish the block heater in it's hole. It's very tight for space (small hands and arms would have been helpful for this part) and it is hard to see. It was difficult to tell if the cartridge was fully inserted and it had a fair amount of resistance going into the cavity, so I drew a line around the lip on the block heater cartridge with a sharpie. That way I could tell that it was inserted all the way, as I could clearly see the line was at the block.

I attached a scan of the print out of the instructions that the dealer sent me. It's a scan of a computer print-out so, the quality is not as good as the original PDF, but to my knowledge it's never been posted here before. I hope all this info helps someone else down the line.

Thanks! What did it end up costing you? I see you're in Canada, I'm in Boston so not sure it's really worth it, only see diesels with block heaters around here.

It was about $200 Canadian before shipping and taxes for the block heater, the two armor cables and the outlet cord.
