new front wheel bearing options

I'm wanting to replace the front wheel bearings in my 2004 4wd front steering spindles/knuckles. Who currently makes a quality bearing and seal? We all know that you can't go wrong with OEM toyota parts, but i'm hoping to not break the bank more than i'm currently breaking it. At the same time, i don't want to buy garbage bearings. Are the Koyos any good? I'm planning on reusing my 4wd hubs...unless there's a good reason for me not to.

And i've also deleted the ABS system in my truck, so it there a different bearing (or spacer) used in the non-ABS assembly?

 

Koyo is what I bought and understand to be OEM. $80 a bearing and $20 for new seals. Ran me about $220 with shipping for both sides. Now to pull the spindles and start the press work….

It’s still in the “planning” phase. my son is also dailying the truck at the moment till we fix the mustang. Parts for the stang are here and likely will get installed tomorrow. New radiator, condenser and filter / drier. It’s not like I’ve had them as long as @shifty` s front suspension bits or anything.

Bearings are patiently waiting…..

 

Since you've waited this long you still have time to buy the dust caps and snap rings, neither of which are likely to be reusable once you get them off

 

This is a rust free cream puff. We’ll see how removal goes.

do you happen to have a picture of the part # for the Koyo bearing?...and i’m assuming that they’re for a 4wd hub? And where did you buy your bearings from?

 

I think that's a Maryland thing. I've not had to ruin any dust caps but they are a test in patience to remove.

My snap rings were mangled when I pressed the hubs out. Yotashop carries the koyo bearings. A bit over $60 each. Koyo and timkin are affiliated. You would be fine with either one. I’d stick with Toyota hubs though. The tolerances are too tight on those things.

Koyo bought out timkins roller and needle bearing business. I’d be curious to compare the two. It’s a cool looking bearing, just wish it would have come off my hub. A split race design.
