Adding my issue to the list. My foot caught the front as I was getting out and broke the clips. My dealer is replacing it for free. But hopefully they can redesign this piece so those clips aren’t exposed.

This going to need a major redesign looking at the seat cradle/frame, the padding and posture of people when exiting. It's just a flat bad design

I just took my 22 Tundra Limited into North Park Toyota in San Antonio they said they were aware of the problem and were going to order a different configuration style to replace faulty one. At no cost to me.

Mine broke as well and is getting replaced. It's going to be covered but the part is on backorder. On the plus side, they gave me my second key fob when I took it in to get looked at.

I don't own a '22...but despite that, it's apparent the part needs a redesign. I've just launched myself into my seat repeatedly for 3+ years....and if you push on that trim piece on my '20 it's *rock* freaking solid. If I push on the same part in a '22 and up (and I have), it's nowhere NEAR as solid, and we can't just continually blame people for 'not being careful when they get in.' It's like the truck version of the iPhone 4 deployment ("You're holding it wrong").

I have tundra 2023 and noticed this crack on driver side. When reported to the toyota dealer they said they will replace it , but they are back order on this part nationwide. They said it happened because I don’t step out nicely.. wtf . Now they said they will replace it only once..
How someone can sue toyota for this? Coz this issue gonna stay with the truck for ever.

This is why I do a cartwheel out of the truck, it takes some practice to get the move down. Really, even with running boards it feels inevitable it'll break sooner or later from what I've seen. Toyota has made the brackets beefier on the new models

Just got mine replaced. The new one seems a lot sturdier than the cracked one. Time will tell.

The design is an ergo nightmare. Step out smartly? Maybe new option is the eject button? I'm 5'11" and its impossible to get out without swiveling and putting all your weight on that seat side. The only way is using the hand grip and then pulling myself up, with right leg planted, then pivot out so left leg lands on my running board. Not easy to do and again, an ergo accident waiting to happen especially if the person has back issues. The other issue is my wife is extremely petite at 5' and cannot get out of the truck without sliding across the seat side cushion. It's just a bad design all around

Update: toyota replaced my side panel Wednesday. The service advisor told me it's a new part with a support in the middle. The support is made out of plastic, and attaches to the plastic side panel. You can see where I'm going with this. Three days later, on Saturday, I saw a new stress crack, right around the area where the bottom of that plastic support is attacked to the panel. Toyota needs to go back to the drawing board on this one. '23 platinum 10k20231029_183809.jpg

I have a 2022 1794 with 40,000 miles on it. I have replaced the panel twice, the last two weeks ago. The cracks were in different locations and I just noticed the start of a new one in almost the identical location to Alex1992's one.IMG_3589 2.jpg

I was thinking about some 24 hour epoxy applied to the back side. If you caught the crack early enough, or even applied the epoxy preemptively, it would probably last the lifetime of the truck.

I don’t think it would work. The area that cracked might get stronger, but it would likely crack in another area. The areas that break are not specific to a single location. If you have handled some, you will see this is a very flimsy part.

Same issue on my 22 Tundra Platinum. Bought in march 2023 and had issues with the seat trim from the beginning.

Brought it in and Dealer wouldn’t cover it. Was told to call customer engagement.

    First person said not covered.

Thanks to the help of this forum I escalated and they are opening a case ticket. Should hear from someone tomorrow. Will update.

We need someone to make a replacement panel out of something better than plastic.

These seat side panels tend to crack from sliding all our weight over the edge of the seat getting out. Yes the seat could be designed to not have fragile parts where there could be a heavy load. Since replacing mine with a dealer OEM part for $116, I now stand up on my running board and drop in to the seat from above. And vis-versa to get out. It’s habit now, no big deal. And I’m certain my upholstery and foam will look great for many years longer than the lazy ole sliding method.

2022 Platinum w 14K miles. Crack turned into hole as the clip on the inside separated. Taking truck in for tonneau cover recall and ask they see if broken cover is under warrant due to poor design. Also intermittant rattle in sun/panorama roof when car hits bump or body twists like turning up into a driveway. Will update group on dealer experience in a few weeks

He's saying it's "new" and "improved" because:
    • It's "new" because they just installed it.
    • It's "improved" because it's not busted like the old one.

I decided to double check that I received the new and improved part. Without removing the seat shield, i compared what I could easily see with "Trazerr"'s picture. I was able to see the much wider ribbing towards the front and the additional ribbing at the bottom just forward of center. The part number on invoice is 71806-0C102-C0. So... it's new and improved.
