...and moving on to round two :spy:

Apparently, there is another strike brewing... This one is regarding an expired contract for union based Kaiser Permanente (healthcare) employees. Allegedly, their contract expired at midnight 10/01, and they are set to begin a strike on Wednesday if an agreement is not met. This will affect CA, WA, OR, CO, VA and DC. The union is asking for raises and support to contrast the 'staffing crisis' and burnout issues from the last couple of years. It's being alleged that this will be the largest healthcare strike in US history.

I suppose these health care workers are lazy bums because they’re unionized. Probably sit on their ass while the union protects them. At least, that’s what I’ve read in a few places through this thread.

Wonder what KP employees are asking for?

    Any inside scoop @T-Rex266?

Primarily larger raises. Their COLA increase is like .56/year. She’s gotten several raises, but through promotions. I’ll get more details. KP has been sending plead emails last two weeks, including weekends.

Their pay could be better. .56 isn’t keeping up.

Thanks for the 411. I know your queen has always liked working for KP (at least when I asked). If you aren't getting at least 8%, that's a big hole in a budget. Hell, in 2022 alone food prices went up 10%....among many other things.

The plus side is she also works from home, and we have “free” medical.
    Co-pay: $10
    Urgent care: $40 (I think)
    Prescription: $5
    Surgery: $50
    Hospitalized for surgery: Free

No sir. Just a generalized comment. It was not directed at you. Absolute comments some folks have made are ignorant.
So many professionals in unions. In many cases, work rules are the big deal in their contracts.

Im telling you, it was painful. So many around here contested them but many weren’t successful and in some cases they went up more.

Good god I just found and binged this thread. At so many points I wanted to jump right in and make a comment but held my breath. And as much as I hate to admit this, in the end, I also see the GOV bailing out this industry again. Obviously not fact but I've been around long enough to read this replay for what it is. And then we can read about big 3 C-Suite scum retaining that massive pay. On our dime. Again. But that will all get swept away when the next story of some corporate this or that overtakes my hatred towards how greedy and messed up a game some people dedicate their lives too...

    As I digress,

Hating on the union for manifesting it, I just can't do. The UAW leadership is doing right by the union members with their moves. That's just a well played hand in a rat fuc*ed mess of politics.

Like @ColoradoTJ and some others have said, my wife and I are planning on relocating out of CO when our kids get out of school. Where? That has yet to be determined. But more and more of this kind of humanity leads us to believe that the whole ex-pat idea has a charming ring to it. If we stay stateside, it will likely be further away from an interstate and no where near a town thriving from tourism.

Oh, and Im also still rolling with an iPhone 6. I can text, email, buy shit and even post in my favorite forum. Good enough for me. And my freshman daughter has a flip phone. Because no child needs a laptop in their pocket. I kinda miss the days of not even having a cell and being one step further from being connected to everything. At all times. But that's what happens when you get old. You miss the good ol' days. I know I sure miss the days when people weren't so polarized. And our communities felt more connected. But that's one of the things I'm liking about this group here at Tundras. We can have these kinds of discussions and not be so trolling in them over disagreements. The common thread we have is pretty bad ass trucks and for that, we're willing to save humanity.

ours went up anywhere between 40-60%. And lots of people also contested them. The buying craze during covid drove home values up so much our county decided well that's good for them, then used it as a measure to raise the property taxes. We got ours lowered by a fraction of the 54% increase in taxes they initially were asking for.

Healthcare (mainly hospitals) is coming off the Covid incentives. they made a killing on that.

    now they need more.

    <rant on>

I did a 10yr stint in Hospital finance. ('04-14) it was nasty then, ACA & such.

    Re: Performance based pay
I don't see any improvement in healthcare.

let's see, I've been juggled thru ump-teen primary care Doctors & insurance coverages. this is after the ACA "improvements".

and since I'm now the healthcare admin at our Co. We cover most, if not all, of our employee care. it's a metric shit-ton of $.

for what? I'll tell you. Medicaid! all those folks getting FREE healthcare via EMTALA. Medicaid/medicare set healthcare pricing.

Harris County Hospital district alone...was 85% Medicaid. 12% Medicare. read that again.

we can do voo-doo dances in the street tryin' to change healthcare, but if you don't address the "free shit" problem, it will continue to deteriorate. by design it appears.

remember when Doctors worked for themselves? they are mostly hospital employees now. Insurance is too expensive.

then Gov will step in to "help".

y'all know how that story ends.

there are frightening similarities in the UAW issue.

Man. I had no idea the free shit was that big of a percentage, and I'm a bit pissed that's not publicly disclosed. Not surprised about it being swept under the rug, though.

another data point & I'll move back to UAW....St. Joseph's Woman's hospital in downtown Houston was 82% Illegal Alien babies (covered by medicaid/EMTALA/Indigent care). *

    ponder that.

my guess is - most of Houston's hospital district is funded by border crossing's. That's not political, that's the cold hard fact.

*if you want more data - ask me about the Apartment complex next to St. Josephs.

Oh for sure. Lots of appointed positions, hell entire agencies, are created for the purposes of back scratching and kickbacks.

Lots and lots of incentives during the COVID bailouts. Now, I’m not a highly educated man, but, my guess is that many businesses, small and large, with most being non union, took some nice chunks of that pie and screwed the American tax payer right in the tail pipe. I’m sure the business owners made off pretty well while the worker saw very little. But, just a guess. Plenty of scum bag business owners out there. I am sure your not one of them.

7% pay increase annually each year over their 4 year contract. (KP offered 3% first year and 3% following three years lol)
Job security (rumors of out sourcing)
Hire starting wages for new hires
Re-implementation of bonuses (they used to get bonused pretty decent)

I'm a straight shooter. Damn fair & have been called too egalitarian as it relates to how we share profits with employees.

My Covid relief point was pointed directly at Healthcare, but you make a good point. The fortune 500 got big $. and some folks took advantage of the rules. it happens. it's not illegal, it's unethical.

We worked all thru Covid. We did not get to stay home. folks getting paid to do zero work...It's quite the sore spot for us.

now pointing at US Autos. The amount of bailout $ they got was OBSCENE. now they want more for various and sundry other reasons, but mainly because we "fed the animals". they are seeing rough times & all they know is to get Gov handouts.

does it make the general public mad, yes.

Good discussions. thanks. it's rare, in these times, that we can have important discussions without getting uncivilized.
