The only reason I'm doing the cast iron is because our grill sucks ass at cooking steaks. It doesn't get hot enough. Hank Hill would not approve of the lack of BTUs.
I've never used cast iron before

Coat it in a thin sheen of oil and bake it into the pan for an hour on 350F. That will help block the pores in the metal and keep things from sticking.

Bacon grease is the way to go. Nothing tastes bad with a slight bacon flavor.

@DJenerated Just remember to not bake it into the iron pan at too high a baking temp otherwise it’ll smoke. Different greases and oils have different temps they begin to smoke. Just need to look it up for whatever you’re using.

The 6 steaks were perfectly made to order. Everyone loved em. Not bad for my first time using cast iron. Thanks for all the advice.

What's the best way to clean the pan? I know that's a sensitive topic lol

Drop of dish soap in hot water, give it a quick scrub with a brush, throw it on the stove to heat it up and dry, then give it a swipe of oil.

Still trying to get rid of my OEM 5-way splits. I got a kind offer that could carry them up to Lexington KY this weekend, if it's interesting to anyone ... gimme a shout.

I think it's fine as long as you don't bring it into the house. The garage is as far as it should go. And get a cover for it.
