    Too many mods to come

I think one issue you'll see people don't keep cars that long. There's no reason for this platform not to exceed the 300k mark with a supercharger. Comes down to maintenance and use case. These motors are very stout forged crank, rods etc. The tuning is also a huge factor. How do you use your rig? It sounds like your mind is made up on not having one. Do you feel this way about other mods as well? With that mind set leave the thing stock.

Definitely not opposed to modding and I haven't made up my mind 100%.

Like most of us, I'm driving this 90% on the road. I live up in the mountains just outside city so I'm driving in and out of the mountains daily. Steep hills and windy roads and then once down, I'm on the freeway and around town. I'm a mix of moderate and aggressive driving. It will go off-road a few times a month, but mainly fire and logging roads only because I don't want to beat it up on narrow trails and rocks.

I'd say I'm average use case, but I will hammer the shit out of it semi regularly on the road.

Also, regardless of how I'm driving, I'm a 5K oil change, religiously.

You’re just never gonna see 20-30+ examples of supercharged trucks being discussed with 300k+ miles IMO. That’s not necessarily because they can’t make it that far, but because there isn’t that many SCd trucks out there. The ones that are out there for the most part aren’t being daily driven and commuted in racking up miles. Who wants to drive their truck that requires premium and would generally be a vehicle you would keep for nice/fun often enough to rack up that kind of mileage. I drive mine 8k a year. That said I’ve probably seen at least 10 examples of SC trucks with over 225k across the various platforms.

That's the problem with the Internet, you only hear from the people having problems. As the OG Maggy was sold by Toyota as a TRD kit, there are thousands of them out there, sold to the non-enthusiast crowd, with tons of miles on them. The only way to track those is when we run across a seemingly stock truck for sale online that's been SC since new with lots of miles.

That's not specifically the 2650, but Magnuson was OEM for the TRD kit too.

VFTuner needing to have tundra ECUs physically shipped ended in 2020/21. Definitely no later than September 2021 when I gifted Mat with a treasure trove of TSB CUW files with which to build tune support with any need to be pulling the ECMs.

Whatever this forum told me to do
    it got delivered.

but....20' 1794 pkg does not have that blank spare button thing.

so I will jury-rig it. as all grown-ass men do.

drill a small hole & it should work just fine. the mount is very straight forward.

stock small girth TRD intake goes in today

since it's Africa hot today, I reckon I'll count this as exercise - as I will sweat off 5lbs.

@Mdl little box for big gains going out.

I was also recently informed of someone who was pushing big power with one of the Sniv Speed Shop pulleys to the point his (stock) engine left the chat. Which sucks, but also kind of cool to see an example of how far the engine can be pushed and the SSS pulley being able to help deliver enough power to reach that point.

And I guess I should enlighten that post a bit. Maybe dude will post on here, but he was in the mid teens for boost and from the sounds of it at WOT for 30 seconds or longer. Not sure of what other mods he had, but it was a 2.0" pulley at sea level. Very super rough my guess is that's ~575whp and ~700+ at the crank? Not sure of the horsepower efficiency drop off as you push that much boost through a 1.9L Magnuson. High 10/low 11 AFR.

It's actually kind of impressive to me the engine was able to hold that together for that long on a stock short block. That's a long pull in general let alone at that boost. I wonder for your guy that's just merging on the interstate and stop light racing if that much power could be run reliably for awhile. My truck and many of us routinely tap at the 10-11psi range with that kind of driving style of just short sprints, so maybe 13, 14, 15psi the engine can handle too if it's not rung out for a long time?

Food for thought and one data point to keep in mind.

WOT @ 30 seconds or longer.. surprised the tires that probably aren't rated to go over 100mph didn't go first

    Welcome.
This has been brought up before; I think 200K is reasonable if you don't get greedy on WHP without building the bottom end up.

Lots of gold nuggets in that one. TB size, screw vs roots, blower sizing.

Last night I drove from L.A. to Phoenix, in the middle of the desert/nowhere I was escaping an asshat BMW for over 100 miles that kept riding up my ass, I was cruising at 85-90 and in seconds was going 120 & he was 10+ car lengths back, over & over, highest boost I saw was 8.7, it was 80 degrees.

    Gotta love boost!

    @snivilous thanks!
Been down that road... my last engine was pushing 11.5 to 13psi, depending on air temp and density. It was theoretically making 600whp. I'm between 9 and 10psi now. Will get intake and injectors setup before putting an extra 2psi at it. May order a 2.3 in case. ;)

I forgot where I heard it but the tvs 1900 turns into a heat pump and has major parasytic loss after 13psi.

Yea I wouldn't be surprised. I know the LSA superchargers which are also 1.9L can push around 15psi and they're pretty topped out, spin it faster and nothing really happens unless you seriously modify them. I've assumed the Magnuson is pretty similar. That's part of the reason the smallest pulley I decided for was 2.0" since going smaller (which is possible) sounded like it'd quickly have serious diminishing returns.

If it was the guy I think it is as seen on other threads, he was pushing 13+psi with longtube headers and full exhaust which also drop the boost pressure a bit. Considering that I guess I’m not surprised it blew! Agreed with @V10Ace about WOT for 30 seconds, must have been going crazy fast. My trip down the 1/4 mile strip I was at 100mph in 13ish seconds from a standstill, so how fast was dude going in a pickup!? Had to have hit 140+ lol.

When mine met its demise I was on a long wot as I was pulling away from a hellcat. I believe my fuel system and pump was tapped out(plus the shitty BD tune). The intake valley by cylinder 8 had a hole melted clean through. Plus a few rods wrapped up in the crank. If I sell and move I'll be ordering up a built block.

A post mortem would have been nice but doesn't matter for what you're asking. A supercharger certainly wont extend the life of an engine. If you want a forever truck you are probably better off not boosting your truck.

I totally think this is an extreme case. Long long pulls on this with the rings being a concern is no bueno. I agree that for the random short stints I don’t foresee the same demise. There’s just less chance for the heat and strain. Built motor problem solved lol

Also, with the same boost with cooler IATs (bigger blower) maybe that could have delayed the kaboom?

I agree 100% on that. We ran into this very same issue in the cobra world. I grenaded my motor from a long freeway pull over spinning the Eaton or Heaton we called it back when. Bigger blower cars lasted much longer on the stock long block. Those had very tight piston clearance issues.
