What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Needed a stress relief project this evening so I took care of this p0155 code I've had since I bought the truck.

Old and new

The downstream sensor nuts were fawked. One came off without any hassle despite being so ugly. The other one was rounded off at some point prior to me. I used a hammer and a chisel to break it loose and then hammered on a 7/16 socket to get it the rest of the way off.

Replaced the really ugly nut with something from the spare parts box. I'll get the proper hardware next time I'm ordering parts.

A sensor wrench was 100% necessary. I originally rolled under the truck with just a standard 7/8 open end wrench, but due to how the sensor was clocked I couldn't get the wrench on given the limited access.

All in all not so bad, Took about an hour start to finish.

 

I mean if you really need to know now, I'll go check. But I'm already in my underwear. Almost bed time haha

I gave another one but the other style to a friend with a land cruiser. I don't think he's going to install it though. I might ask for it back when I see him next week lol

 

I need to kill a squeek coming from the leaf spring bushing. Front mount bushing drive side leaf spring. Just opening and closing driver side rear door is enough movement to make it squeek. Squeek squeek squeek. Lol. Can I spray some WD-40 or some silicone spray in there without taking it apart? Obviously taking it apart would be better so I can grease it or spray it real good but I'm lazy.

 

Are you sure it's the bushing for the leaf pack, and not one of the individual leaves? There's supposed to be a shim between each leaf (toward the ends) to prevent squeaking. The bushing shouldn't be squeaking, it's just a tube of steel encased in rubber.

You right. It could be the insulators. In fact pretty sure I already ordered replacements that I was going to install. I'll have to look for them but I'm pretty sure I did order them. Will replace those first and see if it gets rid of the squeek.

Had a shop that was recommended to me in Southern California do my timing belt today. The mechanic was really good at communicating with me, showing me things and explaining everything. He showed me my old parts and assured me that I had no leaks and everything looked good. 180,000 miles. Previous owner did it at 90,000 mi 10 years ago. So it was due.

This mechanic has done a lot of belts on various cars, and he keeps a collection of the belts that come to him broken, damaging engines. As you can see, it doesn't matter how the belt actually looks. When you visually inspect it, they all look different. Some that look new still broke. He said keep up with your intervals and you'll be fine. Also, he said the Honda cars with this type of engine were more prone to breaking.

He keeps these on display in his shop for customers to look at that are on the fans about changing their timing belt because it looks good

hey now, thats not ideal. When one bag gets leaned on its gonna push that air into the other bag. Or you have a valve to close the crossover after filling?

My '04 has been marking it's territory for a couple of weeks. Bought the power steering return-side hose/pipe off AMZ for $30 ($107 @ O'Reilly) and swapped it out in about an hour. Sure am glad I had a 17mm crowsfoot wrench/socket for the rack end.

 

@shifty` You were right. Just finished changing the two outer insulators near the end of the leaf springs. They weren't completely gone but had a glazed surface on them that was no doubt causing the squeek. I didn't change the two closer to the axle because the leaf clamp is there and it won't allow the leaves to spread very much. Even on the outer insulators I had to grind down the leg so I could fit them in the hole between the leaves. Dropped the ass end off after replacing all 4 and no more squeek. Noice!

 

Turns out he’s good for something besides growing giant airway cysts after all!

Going camping in the Ozarks this weekend riding mountain bikes. Had to borrow my BILs bike and put some new tires on it and adjust the derailleurs.

 

On a less exciting note, the dreaded “click” no start is slowing returning. Time for more starter contacts it seems. Son went to leave for work in the FGT and it went click when he tried to start it about 4 times before the lucky turn fired it up.

I will chronicle the replacement of said contacts and intake gaskets including my “no fuel rail or coolant line separation” kung fu technique, as it comes up frequently here.

 

How long ago did you replace those? I would think they should last as long as the original? I'm surprised they are going out again.

First replacement at 112k or so. It's been 156k and 16 years since then.

 

That's probably the earliest I've ever heard of a starter failing our our trucks. Mine is original at 190k as far as I know.

 

No shutoff valves. I did think about this as well and figured I'd just see how it felt after a bit.

 

Getting wheels rebalanced 8 days since the last time

 

I also feel like it’s mandatory for every tire shop to have a 1st gen RCLB
