Somehow I feel like none of this is sinking in; he just wants to vent about some pretty horrific financial choices. Albeit getting to the point of understanding that was like walking through a dimly lit room.....

OP, pay that thing off and just get back to living.

That's what you're missing they didn't make you do anything, you chose to take those other options without considering the consequences.

I paid for a service to which they had to fix. I paid them. I didn’t hesitate with payment. If they had fixed it correctly I wouldn’t have to make this thread.

I’m not pissed about the money spent but with the shit job that was done.

You didn't HAVE to make this thread. You didn't HAVE to buy your old truck back and be significantly upside down on a huge loan. It sounds like you didn't pursue Aamco hard enough after they denied your warranty. I suspect there is something else there for which we will never find out.

Just move on man. Or sell it for a loss and buy a $2000 beater truck.

You were faced with a problem, bad job from aamco. You choose and decided the best way to fix it, not very well might I add.

You could have chosen to go to Walmart and buy a bicycle, but you decided having the luxury to drive to work was more important than pedaling to work everyday.

..... close the thread already. This doesn't deserve the 70 replies. The original question was answered, dont get a personal loan.

Reading through this whole thing makes my head hurt. OP, if AAMCO didn't follow through, then it's on them. You signed a contract for the work to be completed correctly. It appears they did live up to their end of the arrangement. However, you chose to trade the truck in because you "gave up". Don't ever do that, ride them until it's fixed correctly or talk to an attorney. I feel like we aren't getting the whole picture here, but you do you OP.

I 1000% would not have let AAMCO not honor their end of the deal. Not sure exactly how that went down for you, but you gotta grow a pair. It wasn’t right for them to not honor the warranty (unless there’s more you haven’t told us, which is truly the only plausible explanation). If it’s not right, you have to stand up for yourself. Failing to hold them accountable falls on you. That’s your fault. Your current situation is because of choices you made, not because AAMCO gave you a hard time. Welcome to the real world of dirtbag business that only care about their own bottom line. It’s up to you to fight for yours.

I just read through this shit show of a thread and I still don't see a reason stated as to why Aamco denied warranty.

@helpmeout What was the reason given for the denial of the warranty. They had to have said something, I can't believe they just said no period, there had to be more than that.

Even Toyota themselves said I should have ammco fix the tranny before making any moves since they did the work and they even advised me that ammco should honor their warranty.

just because I didn’t get the transfer case fixed through them where they would charge me 3k more. I was done with ammco when they recommended i get more stuff fixed like I said. I just did the brakes not too long before I went to there. I did. 4 Rotors and 8 pads myself.

They recommended I get the brakes done when I left my truck there. Other mechanics including Toyota didn’t recommend more work then needed.

Yup. They said they did an “inspection” and noticed I need a brake job done during the “inspection” that’s why I was not willing to give them more business after the whole transmission work was done because they couldn’t even rebuilt it correctly and lying to me saying I needed a brake job when I know I just did it.

I’m just using a nearby mechanic to do work on my truck from now on.

they said it would cost 5-5.5k to fix my tranny and that’s when the cost started to go up during mid tranny job. I just wanted a job done at a decent price. I don’t know much about trannys but I did do price comparisons and they were around the same price as another shop and other shops said they would put in a new or used transmission and I didn’t know which option to go with.

OP, i am assuming you’re quite young. This is a powerful learning lesson in life. You should have paid the amount on the estimate and not one penny more. It was a written quote that included a maximum on the estimate

Mine was also a written quote, but they said it was minimum. When they get to the repair, anything new they find would cost more. Repair was for rodent samage.

but OP has an estimate that states “worst case 5860 +- 10%”. Imo that sounds like they cant charge more than that figure plus 10%
