@PanamaJack Welcome to the family. One major problem that no one has mentioned yet is the cam tower leak. You may want to look into a read up on that thread.

I posted this elsewhere but I find this former Toyota Mechanic to be very knowledgeable and honest. I checked out what his thoughts were on the 2.5 generation and found it useful while searching. Good information for ya. Don't be concerned he states these common problems are not very common except in early years and sporadically elsewhere. He reminds you how reliable these really are but things to watch out for. So far mine has none of these issues.

Yes, I’m definitely blessed man. Life has not always been easy, but I have an awesome daughter and son(in-law). And so cool that we have twin Tundras!

Thank you! I think it does have the cooled seats. I still have to travel to CA to lay eyes on it!

Thanks much 713, I’ll look into that!

    Thanks also cmiles97, good video!

Statistics are for textbooks and dead people. So obviously if you've got the CTL problem, it doesn't matter what percentage of 2.5 gens were affected.

Not denying the cam tower leak as a major issue, but as far as the 2.5 Gen goes, it is one of the most inversely proportional *actual serious problems* relative to the size of that thread. There were varying degrees of leak, and all but a very very few instances it was rare that vehicles with the leak experienced long term problems as a result. Many were "repaired" and have been trouble free. Many weren't repaired and have been equally trouble free. YMMV.

Agreed with this. I have had the CTL for 60K miles. Nothing more than seeing some wetness that collects dirt. Not having someone pull the cab off my vehicle to repair. I think this problem is overanalyzed. My opinion....

Same Opinion here, Just a little moist and collects dirt, never any drips and never any movement on the dipstick, just passed 127,000 miles. I say, if its not dripping just live with it, spray it off with brake clean every other oil change

OMG, this youtube guy keeps talking about Tundra's problems for half an hour! Is it really a reliable truck?

Same thought process would apply to the rear end leaking too right? Some owners on here have reported seepage on the rear end but with regular maintenance intervals, there shouldn't be a problem long term.

For me, yes. My rear diff weeped during break-in but no sign of seepage at 91k miles. Never any sign of cam tower leak.

I haven't had either so far and at 64k right now. If either one develops as just a weep, I'll most likely just monitor it and continue with my normal scheduled maintenance.

I would think so, but I'm not even a backyard mechanic. I dont think the rear diff issue was as blown up on the forum as the CTL was. I was just giving the OP the cliff's notes version of that huge cam tower thread when another member suggested he read it.

I find it stupefying amazing that numerous CTLs - seemingly caused by slipshod use of ‘magic gasket’ did not get a more massive revolt from Tundra owners AND that the manufacturer (from whom I have bought 3 new vehicles over the years) did not take an assertive “we screwed up” attitude and initiate just compensation or complete repair. My never-question, always-highly-recommend-Toyota is fractured if not destroyed. I bought new Chevies and a couple of GMCs until I finally realized that they were laughing all the way to the bank. The latest Tundra problems really intensify my belief that these people are asleep at the switch. Wanna buy 2011 5.7 with 107k with CTL and, per dealer, a rear differential (2wd) that could catastrophically fail at any time leaving me and my family in the middle of 80 mph afternoon freeway traffic. Thanks, Toyota. Maybe it is time for a leadership change - again.
