I'll have to check that out. That's the one you have to weld yourself right? And then you had it powder coated ?

Bear with me this is the first time I’ve ever quoted multiple stuff in one response so hopefully the text below isn’t a giant disaster.

@des2mtn Thanks for the warning on the single leaf. I guess I’ll pass on that. Based on your situation - I suppose I could just get the ATS oem replacement pack then chop up the set I have on the truck now for the added leaves? I’m no fabrication genius but I do at least know my way around an angle grinder. Then I’d be able to semi-customize the lift height. This is an interesting option. Did you get a lift equal to just the thickness of the added leaves or did you get more based on the arc of the bastard ones? And how do you keep them from squeaking without the spacers on the bastard ones?

@shifty` I don’t pull much now, but I may start more in a year or so - we’re saving up to buy a few acres which would no doubt lead to pulling stuff. On the height - I already had to talk myself down from 3”. I want to clear 275/70/17 toyo open country’s. So I was thinking 2” would be necessary. I’m fine with a diff drop, they’re pretty cheap. And I’m ok with ucas at some point, but would like to be able to put it off a little bit - which it seems is doable at just 2”. I’ll have to think on that one.

And I too wish I was closer but alas. Has anyone ever tried to ship parts to each other? Or does the freight fee just make it too expensive on larger/heavier stuff?

@DJenerated Yeah I may be. The wheelers AAL plus the oem leaf pack from ATS still only totals like $460 plus tax and shipping. Not bad I suppose especiallly compared to 1” deaver lift for $1100.

the dirt builds up in the back corners. Look from the back up to the top of the wheel arch. I always fluid film between the fender and the wheel liners since wheel arches always rot on trucks. I also use the hose to flush out the front fenders from the bottom up & from the open door (if you don't have foam blocks). There's always leaves & pine needles in the bottoms of the front fenders & they hold the damp in there.
Oh - don't forget those cross bars under the bed - those need cleaned out too.

Haven't tried; freight would be spendy. Trying to find an adequate box is also difficult. ATS ships their stuff bare, just metal-banded together. FedEx lady made me come pull the part out of the truck. "I can't lift this!!"

And re: Not pulling anything. Leaf spring torsion will happen carrying loads or hauling stuff. Blocks are just a bad idea, unless you only, singularly, intend to drive on the street.

That's not at all what I expected. That's a neat way to go about it.

On this note, this crossmember rotting is pretty much what gets everyone a new free frame these days, it did for me. Oddly they didn't change the design at all on the new ones so it's still the same way.
    Here's my original frame.

Just wanna throw out a friendly warning with the pizza cutters; pay extra attention to traction in the rain. I ran a set of 35x10.5x17's for a minute, and they were shit on wet pavement. BFG KO2's. They'd spin everytime starting from a stop, I'd have to feather the gas to get moving. I did get them used, so it's possible they were stale, but they weren't cracked so couldn't have been that old. Not trying to scare anyone or talk anyone out of buying them. Just pay attention in wet weather is all. As @shifty` would say; YMMV

Thanks for the heads up. Haven't had that problem
in heavy rain with mine (Toyo tires) on the Tacoma, granted it's a lot lighter. But I DID have that problem with my 265 ko2s after about 25k miles. Truck pretty much did a 180 getting onto the freeway at a slow speed. Always sliding all over the place when the ground was wet. Never again will I run those.

ive had better luck in the rain with my skinnies than the wide bois.. but tire compound plays a huge role in this.

and my last 2 sets of KO2s were utter dog shit in rain. the 285s and the 265s on my tacoma

the coopers have been better by far. but eh.

I installed a similar generic kit on a Frontier King Cab that I had prior to my Ferd. Remove the window roll handle, remove the door panel, find the plastic gear that fits around the handle shaft, and install the motor. Its not very difficult to install.

I've heard quite a few people say ko2s are terrible in the rain. My Coopers did pretty good in the rain.

Another possible option, if you do want to make your own bastard leaf packs, is sweet talk @Mr.bee into selling you some of his stash. He's got several leaf packs lying around and I know some of em have progressive AALs on em.
It would probably save you a ton and give you an excuse to drive out to the heartland, where the stars at night are big and bright.

Ko2's are notoriously bad in rain.
I'll never understand why they're so popular.

I've had the Cooper ATPs and AT3XLTs and they've been great. If Cooper make the ST Max or ST Pros in 35x10.5r17 I'd try them next

I'd go with the ATS HD for 1.5 lift and then either an aal or take a leaf from your current leaf pack and add it in.

This was a few days ago now but I just recently put 5100's and new wheels and tires on the truck. Did the work myself and I was pretty surprised with how simple it was to replace the suspension. Got 1.5in of lift on the front with the ring on the 3rd spot on the billies and I think it leveled out the truck nicely! Here's some before and after pics...

Still hasn't been cancelled on mine, but I'm sure it's coming soon enough.

However, this could also be a case of availability in a region. Maybe they only ship if a dealer within XYZ miles of your house has them, allowing them to cut down on freight. Maybe I'll get lucky, and more local inventory is available in the Atlanta metro area?

I'll reply to both of us if anything moves on my order.
