Anyone else waiting 6 months for a second fob?

Decided to text my dealer today to see what he says.
He told me it gets sent to the dealership and when it does he’ll get it to me

Got my truck in February

 

Bought in June and still waiting. Looks like I'll be waiting a while based on everyone's experience.

 

In my head, I imagine there are groups of people somewhere following the chart and sending out massive amounts of fobs and chips to whoever is next on the list but in reality I know the dealerships have everything they need but are told to do it this way so that it doesn’t look like Black Friday

 

Just think of how many FOBs they owe. 1 times every model sold. Gotta be over a million. That’s a lot of catching up to do.

 

6+ months out to get the second FOB is a little nuts. So what happens if you move 1000+ miles away from your selling dealership and your 2nd FOB comes in? They transfer it to your now new local dealership?

 

I had my second fob programmed at my local dealership. It was not the one I bought my truck from. That is a small problem compared to what they found after I pointed out an oil drip while it was in there but that is for a different thread. 5300 miles on truck

I’m not quite sure but when I contacted my local dealer they did it.

 

Collected my second fob today, 8 months after vehicle purchase. Yay. Also got the tonneau recall done, new mounting hardware. 3 hours of my life wasted at the dealer. Nothing outstanding now except the fire bomb recall for which there is no current remedy.

 

Had an appointment to get the second fob (9 month wait) at dealer today, along with a few other fixes. They said they have been having problems programming some of the fobs to the trucks and my fob was one of them. They are ordering another fob and I’ll have to take it back in.

 

I was one of the lucky ones to get 2 keys with my 23'. Furthermore one stopped working after an unfortunate cycle through the washing machine. Toyota replaced it without hesitation.

 

Yes sir, bought my 2023 in December and the Second FOB was suppose to arrive in August. Obviously did not happen and should get an update soon.

 

I bought and programmed a 2nd key with Techstream because I did not want to wait.

It is easier to program a 2nd key if you have an original. Lose your only key and a full reset of the ecu by Toyota or a qualified locksmith is required. Not to mention a likely tow to get it fixed. What a pain.

A 2nd Fob is not a huge expense, and then when you get the additional from Toyota you'll have 3 keys.

A bad policy from Toyota, but I have more peace of mind knowing I have a backup if needed.

never. Lol

 

yep never myself either. keys are on a carbiner and clipped to the jean loop or belt. if i dont hear rattling then i am missing keys to drive.

 

The burning question: what will you use to tow it to the landfill?

 

Lol, letter from Toyota arrived today stating I get a second Key Fob.
Already picked one up free from local dealer on Sept 9th after seeing the app notification.
Hmmm, Wonder if I could get a 3rd from the dealer I bought from with letter in hand…

 

I've got an appt tomorrow to get mine from the local dealer per my app - and got the letter yest.

 

My truck was manufactured and rec'd in December. I just rec'd a letter today about coming in and getting my second smart key

 

Yay!!! I have 2 key fobs! Finally, 10 months after I bought my truck! sheesh!

 

I picked up my truck in Febuary.... Still no KeyFOB. No notification and no letter. Yet?

 

same month. I check every day also

 

received my letter in the mail today (28-sep-23). good thing my service manager was kind enough to order the 2nd fob based on the app notification instead of waiting for the letter.

 

Just got a letter as well saying I can get mine. 11 months later...

 

Bought new Tundra Limited yesterday, they said it might be 6 months to get second FOB.

 

I received my second key a couple of weeks ago…(11 months later)

 

My wife got hers just about 5 months after purchasing the truck.

 

Purchased June 7 of '23 - build date May 1 of '23. At dealer now getting parking brake TSB update and second key. No other planned dealer visits until Fuel Line Permanent Fix is issued.

 

My wait was about 20 weeks (July 24th to December 12th). That is 4 weeks longer than it took to get my truck after my downpayment.
