Is this typical offroad wheel weighting?

I'm running new Method 17x9s with Mickey Baja Legends @ 275/70r17.

This is what every one of my wheels looks like. Are Method wheels just whack on their balancing, or maybe the Mickeys are problematic, or did I get the FNG at the shop who gets off on slapping weights everywhere? Maybe I'm exposing my lack of experience with offroad wheels here, or with Mickey tires, but I don't think I'd seen more than 10 weights used on any of the other dozens of sets of wheels I've owned, ever, so when I saw this while slapping in new leaf packs yesterday it was a big "WTF?!" for me. 31 weights total, spread across 5 unique areas.

Looks about normal for an E rated off road tire. Does it feel okay when you drive it? Any vibration?

Just read it again.. they shouldn't be separating weights like that.

Nah, it's nicely balanced, generally smooth up to 85mph.

These tires are way meatier than I expected, I'm assuming they'd be the culprit behind all the weights. The shop I went to does road-force balancing, before that question comes up too.

Are they all like that or just one? I’ve seen it like that before on some other ones of mine.

They should be concentrating the weights to two spots, inner and outer. Maybe they were tough to balance though.

I've been told that if you have to use more than 6 ounces of weight in one spot, you are supposed to break the beads and reposition the tire 180 degrees opposite, and then on each quadrant if that doesn't work. If that doesn't work, the tire shop is supposed to send the tire back to the manufacturer. You don't have a terribly excessive amount of weights though.

1/2# of weights. Seems like a lot. Differing opinions on what constitutes too much weight. 6oz per tire, 1% of total weight. Either way I like to see less. Lots of weights makes me think the tire or rim is just way out of whack to start. Good chance they could have broken the tire back down and rotated it on the rim. Most shops are too lazy to do so it seems.

I only pulled the two rear wheels off; both are like this. I didn't check the fronts (yet) but will do it when I wipe away grease sling later today.

Not sure, I'd need to add it up ... it's 30 of the larger black weights, 1 smaller silver that's 1/2 to 1/3 the size of the black ones. But I didn't look to see what the printed weight was. I'm assuming they're Fe weights and will be stamped.

That's what I'd always heard, 6oz/1%, which is why when I saw it ... I was, like, "Huh. Wonder why they didn't try to debead and rotate the tire" like @Mr Badwrench said?

Typically 1/4 oz each but do come in other sizes.

Assuming .25oz/black weight, then adding in the silver weight, probably just shy of 8oz total on the pictured wheel.

I think more than anything is my surprise with how peppered all over the place the weights are. I've seen weights on inner and outer edge plenty in the past. It's the sheer quantity in that one mass where 2/3 of the weights are, combined with the smattering of one or two here or there. That and the total quantity of weights. 30 freaking weights is a hell of a lot, I think. Can't remember last time I had a wheel that needed more than 12-15.

I run Cooper STT Pros, and most have numerous weights. I had one that had so many I took it back to ask, and was told, that's what it took to get it balanced. Bummer because, when we choose wheels and tires trying to consider weight, this isn't something most of us knew to consider.

But, yeah, I'm another person running a ton of extra balancing weight on my off-road truck.
