    Hello Everyone!

From MN and the trucks not garaged...so I'd prefer undercoating to help with the truck lasting as long as possible. I've been doing some research on undercoating and I was wondering if I could get some feedback. Is there any preferred companies over the other? Around here, there's only Ziebart, Line-X, and smaller companies that charge roughly the same $500-$1000. I've watched some youtube videos and a lot of people praise Fluid film (I'd prefer not to DIY but if it works and saves $$, why not haha). Let me know what your thoughts are for undercoating and if any recommendations.

I use Krown up here in Canada.. $180 Cdn. for the truck. They do a great job.

Woolwax is better than Fluid Film if you are going to DIY as it does not smell nearly as bad.

Not sure where you are in Minnesota but it may be worth a little trip to Canada or Wisconsin for Krown.

Fluid Film and PB Blaster brand has an anti corrosion spray as well. I’ve been using both since new 4 years ago and the underside still looks like new.

Just finished my first winter up here upstate NY (I’m from TX) and found someone to apply Fluid Film for $180 and did NOT drill holes in anything.

I liked it - didn’t see any rust developing and it stayed on quite well. I went back and touched up some spots that got wore off from my washes with PB Surface Shield, which I heard was just as good. Best bet is to find someone to apply, unless you don’t mind getting dirty. Something is better than nothing!

I had my truck sprayed with NH Oil in October, and it's held up great. New England salt is absolutely brutal. I pressure washed the frame in the wheel wells, and it doesn't come off. It was $200 or $250. My only complaint is how thorough they were (it was everywhere, and in some unexpected places) and the smell from overspray on the exhaust. I will do it again in October. Cheap insurance.

After watching the projectfarm tests on youtube I went with using CRC Marine corrosion inhibitor, sprayed a couple cans on before winter, should last much longer than normal undercoating and wont make as much of a mess. I'd wear a mask when spraying it though, its super strong.

I went with NH oil Black. Same as regular NH oil except for the color. Where I live in Pa. winters are brutal on a car or truck. According to Pa web site they used 802,000 tons of salt/brine in 2021. You can see every bit of it on the highway and your truck when it's dry out. I recommend NH oil.

I plan to have this put on my truck sometime this year. Mine was done with fluid film. The place that does it will come right to your house and do it. I may also have them do my Acura car. Already spoke with them.

I'm lazy, I went with Ziebart. I've used it on 4 vehicles and it's been great. I live in mid Michigan where there is a lot of salt used on the roads.
I take my vehicles back in once a year and for around $50 they're touched up. I've had zero complaints or issues. Plus I use them to ceramic coat the paint.
While my truck is back they also touch up the ceramic coat too.

I think that is the secret to ziebart (annual recoating).

I did not have the annual rework done and it hardened, flaked and trapped moisture underneath. If not going for a renewal, almost better to not ziebart at all.

I use woolwax now as I already have a compressor and undercoating gun and it is more effective while being ~$50/gallon.

I bought my 2011 Rock Warrior used. The previous owner had it Zeibarted when new and the annual inspection and recoat where necessary. I can say there were pockets of moisture trapped in several places I could see and I am sure some I couldn’t. I had my old 2007 4Runner undercoated with WoolWax at 10 years old and imo it is a far superior product. Installer said he recommends a redo every 3 years here in Ohio. $180 for the first application.

Run up and down some dusty gravel roads for a while after the woolwax. Turns it into an almost permanent coating unless you get out the pressure washer.

Have to say I am very impressed lately with PB blaster rust inhibitor. Wish it came in gallon cans.

^^^ Second this^^^... Great product, especially if you work on your own truck, and don't want to deal with a really oily mess underneath.

Sounds like you are open to opinions and ideas so here is what I have used with great success.

Already rusty spots - brush off then sprayed with Rustolem Rust Reformer
Non rusty spots - Rustolem black paint

This will look great but after I will use Fluidfilm (or other brand) to get inside of EVERYTHING I can reach with the spray wand.
You can stop hear or spray all over the fresh paint with Fluidfilm. Fluidfilm will not soften if and it will be covered for 1-2 years.

The problem with undercoating on trucks that are not new is that it traps small rust and works its way under the coating until it peals as a big piece. By this time the rust is usually deep into the frame.

This is another gripe of NH Oil. It makes crawling under your truck for mods or service...undesirable.

Just did my 15’ with Blaster Surface Shield. Much better product than fluid film. Put it on pretty heavy and the stuff doesn’t drift like fluid film. Liked fluid film but I think this product is much better. This stuff lasts 2 years they say. But being in the Midwest will do it annually.

Currently in the process on my southern 07. Above gas tank and spare tire were crustier than expected. Wire wheeled, cleaned then hit with ospho x2 for 48 hours. Primed and painted. Now about to hit it with cosmoline rp342

on my 02 I PB blasted everywhere then hit with moly bearing grease via sponge liberally with great results

i used obnoxious amount of fluid film before it saw salt in feb on my drive to Maine and it already has more corrosion showing after a few months vs years on my 02 with grease and multiple winters. FF fucking sucks yo

I just did mine yesterday and used fluid film turned out pretty good. I bought 2 cans but only used one, rolled around with a creeper and it took about 30min-1hr and just sprayed what I could reach:thumbsup:

Does anyone know after wool wax is applied does it leave a film on the vehicle because of being sprayed. I noticed after my vehicles done with fluid film there was a mist on the vehicle i could see. I know it can be washed off but checking.
