That's a bummer, I always dreaded when the riding season had to come to an end. When I was young and slightly less stupid I bought my first rocket, a 1986 Yamaha FJ 1200. I was also renting an apartment that was pretty much a dump, so when it became time to park it for the Winter, I just drove it inside and parked it in the living room. At least I could look at it till the season resumed.

I used to ride into work when it was in the 20s because it was gonna be above 40 for the ride home. Totally doable if your crazy enough.

 

We've not had any real rain in about 2 months; a few small bursts of extra humidity that appeared to be rain...

 

Trouble here is that with the low temps (those you mention are warm for winter) comes icy roads. The state will shut down for a week at a time for the storms. If it were only the temps, yes, you could gear up for it. The 2 foot drifts across the road, 40 MPH wind with 60+ MPH gusts, and ice covered roads are more than my motorcycle noobness can handle..

Also, that's on lightweight bikes in a controlled area. Try it on a 430+ pound bike on a 55 MPH highway with idiots in cars doing stupid stuff. I've nearly been in several accidents because morons don't know how to drive in the winter. Sure as shit not going to be their hood ornament on my bike.

 

That's true, but the ice and snow just adds more variables.

 

Here's the bike I owned when I was in my 20's. I'm honestly grateful to still be alive today.

 

Yeah, that's a rocket compared to my little bike. I don't have the need for speed on a bike, though. No desire to hit triple digit speeds without a roof and seatbelt.

 

I completely understand that logic, but back then we were young and indestructible. Looking back now all I can do is shake my head and wonder what I was thinking.

 

I beat most of my daredevil stuff out of myself on a pedal bike by the time I was 12. Never broke bones, but knocked the wind out of myself and got rashed up plenty of times. Kinda glad, because I'm not super skilled at that stuff and if I had attempted in on something with an engine I'd probably be dead.

Kids used to be tough, not sure about today.

 

My 20's were full of doing stupid and crazy shit on snowmobiles. Should of died a few times.
No desire to do that stuff now, having kids to look after.
