I would venture to guess most Americans that don’t want to “work for a living” are non union.

I believe Teslas total compensation per employee is 45 an hour.
The big 3 right now is around 67 an hour.
Is it the union paid employee causing such a discrepancy?

Speaking completely out of my ass here, because I don’t know if it’s true, but could the location of manufacturing be a factor? I know Tesla has a plant in Texas, and wages here are going to be lower than they are in Detroit. Unions are the exception here also. Very few people in Texas belong to one.

I don’t know. I wonder what Toyota total compensation is around San Antonio?
Listen, this crap that unions are sinking these companies is ridiculous.
Just that comparison I gave 45 vs 67 an hour total compensation should say something. It leadership in many or most cases for poor performing companies. You know, the non union piece of the equation.
Costcos CEO welcomed the union. They seem to perform quite well.

Correct. But, those numbers are correct for wages and healthcare.
Those numbers are not what are causing the stock to be where it is. Not even close. While we like to get on our drum beat and shit all over the union we forget the most important part of a healthy company is the leadership that runs it. You know, the non union employees that are usually top heavy, make shit ass decisions and then roll out with massive golden parachutes.
Tesla is healthy because Musk is a great businessman. Plain and simple.
Ignorance only points to the worker and the union.
Now, in this case, I think the demands are ridiculous and the UAW is out of line.

I’ve worked around both union and non union in the utility world and I’ve seen the massive differences between both. Let me know if anyone wants examples and I’ll be happy to provide.

Everyone wants to give LE more money and rightly so.

Castle Rock CO police. Non union
    60,000 a year on average

Denver, CO police. 100,000 on average.

Where the hell would you work if you were a cop?

Whatever this forum told me to do
here's an uncontestable fact...I would NEVER be able to make what I make if I was a union member.

I prefer performance based compensation, not tenure based.

    performance always follows the incentive.

UAW's incentive is to remain employed.

Tesla's is to make a great product.

While I don’t have any experience with unions, I don’t doubt what you’re saying. Workers are tired of struggling when companies are making record profits. Honestly, if someone hasn’t made significantly more money the last couple of years something is wrong. Companies are making more profit than ever.
The whole “people don’t want to work” rhetoric is overblown. People just don’t want to work for peanuts. The last few years they’ve started standing up for themselves. Inflation has insanely outpaced wages and people are tired of it.

This depends entirely on what type of job you do. How do you rate the performance of a line worker, janitor, or a stock clerk?

That's exactly why unions exist and a pretty solid way to make sure they're paid a decent wage. Sure some people want to move up but there are a lot of people who are more than happy putting in their 8 hours with no more responsibility than what is directly in front of them.

Good points. Performance based is great if utilized properly. However, I’ve seen it manipulated heavily by companies. Employees that have a voice and aren’t the favorites may not be treated the same even if their performance is off the charts. In fact, I am dealing with that as we speak.

Some 5,600 employees at GM and Stellantis parts distribution centers -- 38 of them across the country -- walked off the job and joined the picket line Friday. Ford Motor Co. was spared the expansion of the strike because Fain said it was making progress in negotiations and had offered up some wins for the union on issues like reinstatement of the cost-of-living adjustment to wages.
