So I just got a 2004 Tundra DC Limited, and I’ve already done one mod, interior LED conversion. (check photos)
Now I have some questions on what mods to do next.
I really want to know what carplay stereo you guys recommend.
Also, how can I fix this window frame peeling off? (check pictures)
    Let me know, thanks a lot!IMG_2411.jpg IMG_2406.jpg IMG_2405.jpg

Possibly but it may not look great and may not hold up well. I think a few people have tried painting or coating it.

Myself and others opted to replace them instead. They are pricey though.

    Welcome to the forum.

What about talking them off and sanding them and then painting them with like bed liner or something like that?
    Thanks!

I got aftermarket replacements yesterday evening. Saw your thread so I went outside and swapped them out. I'd give these 4 out 5 stars. They fit great and sweep the windows perfectly. Finish isn't perfect in one spot but good enough for a 19 year old truck. I would not have spent $600 for OEM molding but $100 is worth it to not have to sand and paint if that even holds up long term.

For number 3... Thanks for that. Will watch it. My driver side is missing the strip completely. Passenger side looks good.

Op... Congrats on the new truck. Just picked one up myself

Register on Toyota owners site or app which should help with some maintenance history and also let you keep track of yours if you input stuff.

Check the health of the timing belt, lower ball joints, and any areas of concern for frame rust. Change the oil, filter, and air filter, and check your tire tread and brake pad depth. Depending on the answer, you may find you need to hold off on any potential upgrades like your head unit, wheels, speakers, or lift kits until you have ease of mind of all the above crucial and safety items. If you didn’t get a PPI done, I’d consider spending the 100 to get a full inspection done at your uncle’s shop to know what the next year or two of maintenance is looking like for you before you spend a bunch of cash.

afterwards, chances are your headlights are foggy, still have the dim halogens, so maybe replace those with better housing/bulbs or just find a restore kit.

Also order a touch up paint kit from (automotive touch up) as you likely have or will have paint chips, and it can take over a month for delivery. And one of those fancy painting gold tip pens (you can google it) to fill in the very tiny ones.

oh and grease your driveshaft every oil change or on your own schedule so you can avoid the infamous red light jolt/shunt.

lastly look at shifty’s stickied thread on the first gen tundra page which covers 80% of your future questions. The other 19% of the time you’ll find ppl on here are very quick and nice to help if you make a thread, with 1% of busting balls and satire.

    welcome from NJ!

For that pen... Someone told me the ones at AutoZone work perfectly fine for the small chips. Can you agree?

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! There are lots of mods that could be done. It depends on how you use your truck and what features you want to add.

hell no. For a 15-20 year old car, I guarentee you they won’t have your shade on the shelf, and so it would be a guessing game with matching. At least with third party companies like dr color chip, automotive touchup, and more, they “supposedly” match to your OEM color. Granted i doubt it’s perfect so you have to keep that on mind but the closer the better.

now if your talking about the gold tip pen itself, I don’t recall seeing one at autozone as it’s normally for like art students and calligraphy, but the one I ordered was from kingsart off Amazon. It’s basically like using a toothpick but without having to reload and you have more control and precision

I tried blue for dash color, absolutely terrible. Tried red. Meh. Just off white was the most pleasing with the needles painted red.

#2 thread will give you all the warnings and info you need to know about upgrading the stereo, since there's definitely several traps and pitfalls you can run into. Hope you took time to really dive in.

The window trim is spendy as hell, I'd sand or strip the remaining off, scuff-sand, mask it off and respray with Rustoleum satin black outdoor paint. Costs you nothing but time.

Really vague on the 'what mods to do next'. What's your budget? What's interesting to you? What do you use your truck for, besides driving on roads? How many miles do you put on it per year?

I repainted my trim pieces with them on the truck, and it was a major pain. Just pull them off if you’re going to repaint.

With them off the truck, it’s easy to sand off all of the old stuff, and even easier to put the new paint on. I used plastidip. I think it looks great, and they’ve held up well since January.
