Has anyone else experienced their navigation screen on CarPlay blacking out? I’m not sure if this is an issue with CarPlay/Apple or the tundra itself. Any help is appreciated.

Mine started doing this several months ago when I was still using Google Maps. If you go on your phone, open Google Maps, then it will appear on the screen. But as soon as you close the app, it goes black again. No clue why it started doing this. So I switched to Apple Maps, and the map is always up there even without opening the app on my phone. No idea why Google did this.

Apple doesn’t want you using their nemesis maps.

Seems like an apple CarPlay and Google map app issue. I don’t use google map but never had that issue using Apple maps and Waze.

On this note...I had multiple issues with iOS 16, the absolute worst of which was *constant* disconnections/reconnections from my phone to my head unit. It was SO bad that I was this close to paying $1500 for a whole new head unit...

...until I updated my 14 Pro to iOS 17 beta. Suddenly, it's been rock solid. No disconnects, no hesitation when using CarPlay, etc. It may very well be an update to iOS 17 that fixes things.

I use Google Maps via CarPlay. I love the satellite view on a 14" screen. It doesn't have to be open on my iPhone to display correctly on my truck screen. I've never gotten the black screen. I'm using IOS 15.6 on a iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Yeh I have seen this, clearly the iPhone. I typically shut down the app (Waze in my case) on the phone then reopen it on the phone not on the truck screen. Seems to work. Once I had to reboot my phone.

A few... Definitely more than 2
What do yall have the background location permissions set to? If you have background permissions turned off it will not work unless the app is open and your phone is on.

I have Google Maps Location set to "Only when using the app". It doesn't need to be open on my phone to work on my truck screen. It displays as soon as I select CarPlay on the truck screen, assuming it was on when I last shut the truck off.

The odd thing is Ive had the truck for 9 months, over 16,000 miles, ALWAYS used google maps. I have not changed phones or settings on the truck or my phone and never had an issue with it until this past weekend...

No recent iOS updates at night you weren't aware of?

Sometimes after an update perviously set app security settings will reset and have to be set again.

Not had this problem on any CarPlay maps yet but the built in Toyota maps have got lost and gone blank twice in the past 2.5 months. I love that Satellite view from Google you’re showing. I can’t seem to get that working. Have Sat view turned on in iPhone but truck is showing street view. I gotta figure that out. Looks cool

Go to Settings on the truck screen when you have Google Maps displayed. It's the little gear looking icon on the upper right corner of the screen. Then select Satellite Map. Voila!
