I think a day or 2 in coal country would be good for everyone.

At this point it all mind games with people. When apple had the unveiling, some lady was on stage and said, now iPhone has all new USB-C and the crowd cheered. Like what are they cheering about. That's its about time they did switch or that they were amazed by this new magic that was now on the iPhone. It was like a comedy show. Not to mention Apple put it out there like it was their idea. No, bitch they made you switch over. I have always flipped back and forth and I will be giving the S23 Ultra a try.

    <For the record I have 4 ICE's in the stable + a Tesla*.>

Elon is calling 'em like he see's them.

read up on how awesome he treats employees...it mirrors a lot of sentiment I've read here.

    * The non-union built Tesla is the most advanced, highest performance, most American made, mass produced vehicle we own...and on earth.

Union is under poor management, and the big 3 is mismanaged too.

Leadership is usually voted in by a board or shareholders.

who voted the big 3 CEO's in?

who voted the UAW leadership in?

those are the folks that need to be fussed at.

Question...UAW wants 40% raise....what do the auto makers get in return? ponder that.

Culture in import automaker is for everyone to work for the longevity of the company so it's there to cloth and feed their grandchildren.

Culture in both management and the work force of the domestics is to make as much bank as you can in every pay negotiation and leave taxpayers with the bill when it collapses the company.

I'll say again I have no sympathy for anybody here because the core problem is the union, in staying true to its "historical allegiances," inadvertently invited in a trend that will kill union jobs. And I think this is a lame attempt to clean that up after the fact so the membership doesn't see them as sitting on their hands letting it happen. They're all complicit in creating the problem that's at the center of it all so I'm not shedding a tear for them or advocating for them.

I don't really care what percentage raise the CEOs have gotten in comparison to the workforce, nor do I think it's really the main point of all of this. Union leadership sees massive layoffs coming that they indirectly set the stage for and now It's mop up on aisle 6 time

    Harsh.

    All true, but harsh.

Confirmation bias in the union guys is not easily overcome.

it's a bad deal, as most union members are pot-committed at this point.

And what does fewer car building jobs mean in EV utopia?

Fewer dues paying union members, which means less financial leverage and political power for the Unions.

Blue collar unions now groggily, reluctantly waking up to the fact, maybe a bit too late, that they've been gradually signing their own death warrants and public sector unions have the real muscle now.

I don't accept the premise that this is simply about average joes asking for a raise. The pool of people to operate stations in a factory is larger by several orders of magnitude than the pool of people who can successfully steer a large cap publicly traded company with shareholders who expect consistent growth. Supply vs demand. The compensation for CEOs vs factory techs reflects this. I don't care about CEOs of massive corporations; that is not a job or a lifestyle I want at all.

I have a huge problem with taxpayers bailing out these massive corporations instead of letting them suffer the consequences of their own actions. I also have a huge problem with unions making insane demands because they see the writing on the wall that they helped put there. A truly free market would allow corps to fail and figure it out on their own. Instead we're creating dependency in the corporate class by repeatedly bailing them out.

Why do we get it with wild animals but not ourselves or our corporations?

Because wild animals can't line the pockets of politicians. I wrote this before but we have come full circle. We fought a war against taxes and became what we are today, only to be in the same situation as back then. Being taxed on everything.

Prescott has become incredibly expensive. Most of Northern Arizona has. The housing prices blow me away. There aren't that many high paying jobs in these areas, so I'm not sure how people can afford it.
I always want to leave Tucson. I've never really liked it here. While there are things about Tucson I like, for the most part I want out. Unfortunately, I'm pretty much stuck here career wise, as it's pretty tough to beat the railroad. The pay, benefits, and railroad retirement are not something you just find anywhere.
    Oh well, maybe someday, haha.

Miami has become the same shit. To top it off, Miami has become a cesspool of all sorts garbage you can think of. I too can't beat the pay, benefits and retirement but rest assure I am out once I retire.

I'm trading my 14 Pro in on...a regular old 15.

Hear me out on this one. LOL

    1. AOD - could care less; I've got it disabled.
    2. Telephoto lens - I've used it exactly 2x
    3. Dynamic Island - on the 15.
    4. ProMotion - I've got it disabled.

Past that, what I wanted in a new phone was USB-C (to get rid of other cables) and something lighter than the Pro, which the 15 definitely is. Many features of the 14 Pro are coming to the 15, and for me it's essentially a straight-across trade, so I'm good. :)

    Friday should be interesting?:)

Ford says they have lost billions in the EV scene this year.?? Did they actually think people were going to be crashing the doors down like a sale after Turkey Day wanting to purchase an EV? or were they hoping to get even more money from the government?

I think they should STRIKE till all shuts down!! That’ll teach everyone!!! HA!! :$
The only ones that will get their millions are the ones at the top! everyone else will get broke, that has all happened before a few years ago!:)

And Ford losing billions is a perfect example of poor management. The higher ups should all lose their jobs!

Unfortunately the uaw shitwads affect a lot of small businesses as well. People that cant afford to have work stopped. Some have already done layoffs or planning them while others are just cutting hours and/or pay for now.

If they dont like the benefits, quit. Mass quiting would just as well affect business if that is the goal.

Even when uaw goes back to work fully, it'll likely be too late already for some suppliers. The supply chain ripples have started again.

Strikers are no better than the asshat environmentalists or any other protestor that sits in the road causing trouble preventing people from going about their days.

I hear you and I agree as well. I hate to see our jobs go offshore. I'm a software developer and have seen much of my work go to garbage developers who will work for 10 bucks an hour. I don't agree with work going offshore so the companies (members) can get richer by greed, I mean only if people at the factory locations don't want to work because the feel entitled. If nothing else move the factory to a place (hopefully in the states) where unions don't exists. Then lets get some vehicles built by people who want to build a career and feed their families.

We need a few states where unions aren't legal. If one state would pop up they would become very wealthy when all manufacturing moved there :)

Lots of different points being brought up on both sides, and many are valid. The trouble is that it's all so multifaceted that there is no silver bullet solution to solve it. It's definitely an interesting discussion.

This is exactly how preventable deaths happen. Have a complaint about safety? There's the door we'll find some other sap to do the work. You're going to say that's what OSHA is for but the reality is OSHA isn't there every day and the fines aren't enough to dissuade unsafe practices.

This is from a few years ago but sums up the problems with non union plants.
    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/feat...oom-cheap-wages-little-training-crushed-limbs

Right to work states already exist and the data shows median wages there are 3% less than non right to work states so the only ones getting wealthy are the companies. That includes workers all across the board not just jobs that could be Union.

And I would bet that the average cost of living is more than a median 3% higher in the non right to work states. $100K per year in CA is dogshit income, but put that same money in your pocket in "flyover country" and you're living pretty well.
