The fact that you're lucky to get 2% is why unions need to exist right now. That said, 45% is obviously not realistic. I'd be thrilled if I got an annual raise that slightly beat inflation. Even that doesn't happen.

40 percent sounds crazy when you hear it.
The top scale employee make around 32 an hour. Assuming a 5 year contract, that employee would make 45 an hour in 2028.
I have no idea what they do, but 45 an hour doesn’t sound insane.

    90,000 a year is the old 60,000.

I’m not discussing this anymore because I know my opinion on this matter is very much the minority.

Idk, because they did fuck all to help my buddy working in natural gas. He wound up having to sue the company, and the union. He was maliciously targeted to the point that the aggravated his PTSD into giving him a heart attack. Email chains of supervisors laughing about his PTSD. It went on for years and the union didn't do shit to help. It did protect the lazy guy abusing off time to the point he only worked a few weeks before maxing out time off for "medical leave" so he was barely there.

They were crushed with OT and refused to hire more, even after paying to have several consults on what was wrong with morale and injuries. They refused to supply proper equipment for locating, but wrote up workers when locates were wrong.

The union just sucked money and did nothing. Hell, they replaced a union rep stating they were voted out, but no vote happened. The put the girl sleeping with the boss in as the rep. Not a conflict of interest at all.

That sounds like a bad deal. You’re judging unions based on one bad situation. That sounds to me like that local union had poor leadership and if their membership was active they would have been voted out. It happens with unions and companies, unfortunately.

Toyota treats their employees well. Therefore, the employees likely see no need to unionize.
If leadership ever decides to go the opposite direction, you can bet your ass employees would look to unionize.

No, you are assuming that's what I'm doing. That's one that I provided. It is not the sum total of my union experience. That assumption is baseless.

There are mines where I grew up with unions that are equally useless. Grew up with union income, and it was garbage. The one mine that is NOT union has the best pay and benefits. The other union ones have changed names more times that I can count because they are run into the ground over and over. The non-union one has been the same for longer than I've been alive.

Unions had their place and were 100% necessary, but they've turned into greedy thug run organizations. They've used violence to push politics in the past. What business does a union have with politics? They've evolved into corruption.

I won’t argue with you but that’s yet again, a massive generalization by someone who is clueless with how every union and its local operates.

Politics? That’s like asking why a company has any business in politics.

So the argument to authority. Typical.

Edit to your edit: I agree on businesses not needing to be in politics, but saying that companies do it so unions can? Kinda becoming exactly what they stand against.

I didn't once say "all unions are bad." Another assumption on your part. Just as not all of them are good. The world is deeper than that.

I provided a specific example for a utility union to a member stating that they were better than others. Just providing information as to why I doubted that claim.

Unions lobby for work rules, safety rules, among others things that benefit the working conditions of employees.
Politics are a massive part on the way this country works but I’m sure you know that.
I’ll bow out. We will never see eye to eye on this. You enjoy your Sunday, Adam.

Can confirm Adam knows one guy in a really strong and fair union.
    This guy! :D

I'm making $20/hr more than I would non-union, not to mention the benefits are off the charts.

    The Dirty T ( ^_^)_且

I will say it, they all are corrupt, shady fucks. I was able to avoid them because AZ is a right to work state and I'm happy to say that I never gave those bastards a penny of my income. Unfortunately due to the Railroad Act, when my wife's work (airlines) voted those slimy fuckers in, we had to either pay or she lost her job, despite the right to work status. Of course they (Teamsters) bent us over and rammed it in hard without the benefit of lube. Covid hit and they told us to fuck off and pound sand while still collecting dues until the ultimatum of take an early retirement or get fired once the Gubment assistance ended. All unions can suck it and I hope every union member walking the picket line gets canned.

Yup. You've got a good one, and I'm happy for you. Hell, I'd love it if my company could get a good one. They've openly stated that if employees attempt to unionize they'll sell it. Sucks, because there's some stuff we could definitely use it for.

I'm not responsible for your interpretation. If I say politicians are dirty, that doesn't mean all of them. Just that it's not surprising. Same for unions. As @NWPirate points out, there's some that have a soul, but I don't trust easy anymore.

No animosity here, either. I am just enjoying the spirited discussion. You have a good day too, Brad!

Agreed, but my biggest beef with then was the bonuses. What made it worse was that the owners took a $28 MILLION draw on the company that year. $1 million would have given every professional a 25% bonus AND a 6-8% raise. I played a lot of video games on the company network after that with some other engineers who knew what had happened.

You get the all new USB-C charging port. But wait there's more, you have to buy a better USB-C cord than what come in the box to actually take advantage of the USB-C 3 on the 15 Pro. Funny part is I have an iPhone and the crap this multi billion dollar company is doing is hilarious but people still run to the store to buy in to it.

I use to think like that. But that's why you are lucky to get 2%. Think about it, I assume the company you work for is rich, there for they are using you for cheap labor because you have no say in your pay. Now, I am sure you are feeling the effects of the current inflation. Well so are those and other union workers. The difference between them and you is that they have a voice and a say on what they are worth. America has become greedy, plane and simple. The rich want to own everything and everyone. If I remember my history correct, we had a war over taxes which let to the American Revolution which formed what we are today. And look how we have come full circle back to being taxed for everything again.
