Pretty bummed out. Was stopped in traffic during a heavy rainstorm and a jeep wrangler rear ends me. Got them on dashcam. It looks like they didn't even try braking, or maybe their bald ass tires didn't do shit. Less than a year with the truck and my first accident. I'm worried there might be frame damage but it mostly looks like bumper and tailgate. Still waiting to get it checked out by a shop. Anyone been through similar?

Sucks to hear, that person in the photo might need their knee checked out if they were part of the crash.

That sucks man. Hopefully you get it repaired back to normal and get some depreciated value.

Sucks. Been there. Outcome wasn't great. Totaled. Hopefully you have better luck, but yours looks worse.

I saw a 145 foot 60 to 0 stoping distance on a road test for a 2024 Wrangler. Some trucks and SUVs don't stop like sports cars. Does not prevent their drivers from tailgating

Man that sucks. Hope it works out for you. I was rear ended once.. but I was driving my 97 F350 quad cab, long bed. All I had to do was rub the mark of my bumper with my thumb. The other vehicle…. well…

Similar situation. Currently at the body shop. Initially thought it was just tailgate and bumper cover. Unfortunately they found where the top of the bed hit the cab and caused two small creases on each side. Waiting for additional information.

Oh damn, yours does not look bad at all and it hit the cab. I'm guessing there's damage to mine then somewhere lol. This sucks so much.

Good Lord! None of these rear-ended Tundras look that bad to me. I can't believe the one above was totaled. I assume the frame was bent?

Yeah, frame was bent. Apparently these Tundra frame are really good at absorbing the blows and protectecting the occupants. We barely felt a thing. But, comes at the cost of the frames bending rather easily. I took it to a Toyota body shop. It was a 2020 with just a hair over 18k miles.

Damn, that sucks. I understand the concept of crumpling vehicles to absorb impacts and protect the occupants, but this seems a little overboard. No wonder our insurance premiums are so high.

Yep - crumple zones are exactly that. They absorb the energy so the human occupants don't have to. The tradeoff is bent frames.

Sorry to see that. So frustrating when others cause hardships. I've got 11k miles and two windshield breaks so far. First was a county dump truck, broke a star shaped crack lower rh side. Actually have a pending court case on them. Then couple days ago driving up a beautiful 2 lane hwy, NO cars either direction nearby, BAM something hit w/s again! Didn't see any damage initially while driving (becsuse its behind mirror area) but next day looking at exterior there's a quarter sized divet in glass and cracking in all directions. $1750 p&l. Yes I have insurance, but still sucks. My experience is these w/s break easily. Btw I'm 63 and don't tailgate, super careful with my vehicles.

If it comes off their tire, it's road debris. If it falls off truck (and before hitting ground), they're liable.

File a small claims case. I went to a hearing so far and they still denied responsibility. So trial it is. I saw the rock fall and the arc of it hitting. It didnt come from the road. I'm super pissed they're trying to weasel out of it, it's a principle thing for me.

Just got quoted 3.5k for repairs through the other party's insurance. Seems a bit low, will be taking it to dealer tomorrow and see what they say.

Fuck insurance companies. Keep in mind diminished value and make a stink about that, because a crash on your vehicles history reduces its overall value even if it is repaired to perfection.

Went through this this summer with my wifes Kona. First estimate by the at fault driver was just over $3K. Found out it was done using pictures. Once we got it towed to our preffered body shop thier initial was $14K. They still wanted to fix. Once they doug into it they estimate climbed to 17K. They totaled it out and Paid 21K.

Insist it's not drivable. The longer thier paying for a rental the more resanoble they will be. As said earlier, state that you will also be filing a diminished value claim. Lock in the pricing for that now buy finding retail prices for like trucks.

The final straw on ours was when our body shop told them they would not use a used dash (airbags deployed). Shop manger had customers complain about scratches on used dashes and demanded it be swapped out. That's alot of labor.

Ha. They plan to just repaint it as it sits?
No way. It is going to be well north of that. I am going to say there is some frame damage also.

Definitely some frame damage, the jeep had a metal front bumper and that's what really did most of the damage. Hit right between the bottom of the tailgate and top of bumper. Bed is kinda caved in. Probably not repairable and the bed needs to be replaced. Could easily turn into a shit ton of $$$$.

Yeah I've already insisted I can't drive it at all. Seems like I'll be having a similar experience once the dealer really digs into it. This estimate was also done through photos they make you take of the damage so I'm not paying much attention to it. Part of me hopes they'll total it, the repairs would probably take months for just parts.

I looked closer today and found both sides of the cab were hit by the bed. One more dented than the other. Doesn't seem too bad but could be a sign of some type of frame damage.

Sorry to hear about your truck but at least everyone is okay. I hit a deer in June and according to the body shop they may have the parts in October. Hopefully the parts for the rear end aren't as scarce as the front-end parts.

Yep, apparently the Tundra crumple zones are extra cushy and it doesn't take a whole lot to cause frame damage.

There's a bunch of Tundra's out there that are totaled out from seemingly minor fender benders. It's possible (just a guess) that Toyota doesn't have spare frames readily available for replacements, which is why the insurance companies just total them versus repairing. Because when I saw the final repair estimate with a new frame, it was still far less by about 50-55% then what the truck was worth and what they paid me.

You saw that too on MotorWeek! I had to rewind and play that again to confirm what I thought I heard. Our 6K lb Tundras are stopping in 120’.
