Does the maintenance required light reset when the battery is disconnected?
I know how to reset it but I'm as for O/C intervals rely on that if I forget to right down the mileage.

It depends on what type of light it is.

Yes, it absolutely will reset on codes generated from readiness. Just leave the battery off 10 minutes.

For persistent and safety systems (on most cars at least) it won't.

This is how I do it on my 08 4runner...probably the same for your truck:

How to Reset a Toyota Maintenance Light
    1. Put your key in the ignition and turn it to position one, the position just before starting the car.
    2. Push and hold the trip meter reset button on the dashboard, then turn your key to position two.
    3. Continue holding the odometer button for 10 seconds.

Just the distance traveled since last oil change. I ask because when the alternator was changed it was obviously disconnected for some time. I guess I'll just change the oil here before to long if I can't find the mileage I changed it last.

Oh I was confusing "maintenance required" with "check engine", because some check engine lights have "MAINT" under them instead of "CHECK". My comment above is purely for when the money light comes on. When my oil maint light comes on, I just reset it. I don't use the internal 5000 mile counter, I drive too few miles to rely on it.

    Purely my misunderstanding.

Speaking of which, my wife's oil light is on. I need to change her oil soon. Haven't done the 2020 Highlander yet, I don't even see the damn filter, and there's a huge wooly mat covering the underside of the vehicle. Should be a blast, I'm sure.

Dirt Deeds injectors, Addco rear sway, AEM dry flow air filter, last ever set of Stan's Try-Y headers, Borla full custom exhaust, front level, wheel spacers, and lots of electronics.
This is the procedure but before you start make sure your guage cluster is in the odometer screen, not trip. Turn off the truck and when you hold the button down and turn the key to accessory if you did the reset right you will see a line of 6 or so dashes. Once all the dashes have 'counted down' you will have successfully reset the oil change light.

It goes off every 5000 mi, it just means you're due for an oil change. And typically the mechanic resets it, but sometimes they forget
