Has anyone removed their DC back window? I picked up the new window from the dealer this afternoon, now I am having a hard time finding someone that will swap it out because it wasn't purchased through them for warranty.

    Safelite won't do it?
They usually do ins claims, but maybe they would install it for you. Have to imagine it's the same process as a windshield, but way easier.
If not, I'm pretty sure they use some kind of wire/cable to cut through the adhesive, kinda like using dental floss to remove a badge. Then clean and apply new adhesive, then stick the new glass on with suction holders.

I haven't called them yet. Knowing them, they probably won't unless it was purchased through them as well. I believe I saw somewhere that there are tabs at the pinch welds that hold it as well.

Hopefully someone who's taken one out chimes in. I've been thinking about possibly removing mine and making a boot, if I ever do a permanent bed cap.
I didn't know about the tabs.

Found a glass shop that will change it out for me tomorrow. He said it didn't make any sense that shops wouldn't do it being that it is brand new OEM glass other than not being able to charge a markup for the glass.

I was thinking the exact same thing.
Doesn't make sense. They're still charging for labor and making money. It's an easy job and probably charge an hour for a 30 min job. Probably don't even need to pull it in the shop.

If you can, would you mind getting pics of the window out, or ask what was involved, for future reference?

They are coming to the house so I'll be there when it's removed.

    Fantastic!
It will be immensely helpful to see what all is involved with removing the glass and what the frame underneath looks like.

following! i have a DC SR, so the back window doesn't even open... always wondered how hard/easy/expensive it would be to replace with the windows that open, even if manually

The manual window from Toyota runs about $280. It should be an easy window once the back seats and trim is removed. The cautious area would be around the paint. You have to tape it really well.

Did they ever make it out? Did you get pics?
    We're all counting on you.

No pics but the glass was removed and replaced. It took an hour and a half to get it out. There was enough urethane it there for sure. The frame is a flat lip once everything is cleaned out. There is a hole in each corner where the alignment tabs pop in to when installing the new window. (Toyota identifies them as spacers). They used the hooked blades to cut it out, not piano wire. He said piano wire can damage the paint due to the angle of the window. Unless someone has glass experience like this, no way I would try it myself. He only charged me $150, and that was including figuring out how the center window goes in without removing the seal to do it.

Rough guess I would say 13 or 14 inches.
