07 DC non-JBL complete audio replacement advice?

I have been looking everywhere for an answer on what speakers/amps etc. to get for my 07 non-jbl DC tundra but all I ever see is how much everyone hates the JBL version on their crewmax. Is there any major differences between the older 07 non-jbl and the newer 14+ non-jbl setup? (by setup I mean speaker specs, amps, tweeters, total speakers, etc.) I know mine only has the 6 total speakers (2 tweeters in the dash (I think), 2 6x9s in each front door and I think 2 6.5s in the rear. I could be wrong I haven't actually taken it apart and looked)

For reference on why I'm asking is because I'm really debating on redoing everything rather than just adding an amp or replacing just the speakers/HU since I've pretty much got a clean slate without having to worry about bypassing the JBL amp under the seat.

Thinking about upgrading the stock HU for the Kenwood Excelon DMX809s for $550 (but am open to other options if you think there's a better option for the price), replacing all the speakers just haven't decided which brand to chose since there's so many. I'd also like to add sound deadening while I've got the panels off because might as well. Maybe adding a sub and amp under the passenger or rear seat just need to decide which speakers first/if I want to do 2 separate amps, one for sub and one for speakers or just a 5 channel amp as a AIO. I'd like to keep the budget between $1200 and $1500 but am flexible as I'm not really in a hurry to do it all at once. Since I don't really have any idea on what to expect budget wise if I need to cut costs to stay under budget I'd rather do good speakers and HU and wait on sub/amp (if I plan on doing a separate amp just for the sub) or just save the sub and sub box for later rather than buying cheaper everything. Any advice/personal experience is much appreciated.

P.S. I'm planning on doing everything myself to learn more about my truck and have the experience to upgrade other systems in other vehicles later down the road as it's always rewarding doing things myself.

P.P.S I'm not a total dummy as I have rebuilt(re-foamed) the speakers and added a pioneer 1770NEX as a budget audio upgrade in my 02 sequoia limited when the factory door foam fell apart and also added a 2770NEX in my buddies Tundra so it's not like I have no idea what I'm doing at all. (not to toot my own horn or anything I'm just saying this so everyone doesn't think I'm one of those guys that thinks he can do everything by watching a simple YouTube video)

After reading this over and over I've decided that it's quite confusing to see what I'm asking for so let me just summarize it

-What speaker/amp brands should I look at/stay away from?
-6.5" or 6x9 for the fronts?
-Maybe a 2 way speaker kit or buy them separately for the best price?
-Is it better to do 2 different amps, one for door/tweeters and the other dedicated for subs or just get a AIO 5 channel amp?
-Will I need to completely rewire the speakers door to door or not since I don't have to by pass the non-existent amp?
-Kenwood DMX809s a good HU? (planning on adding cameras and iData later down the road)
-Is roadkill sound deadening worth the price or do they all really achieve the same result?

Also I forgot to mention that I have the column shifter and no steering wheel controls.

 

1) Consult Crutchfield.com. Lots of good choices out there. I personally stay away from BOSS and no name brand audio.
2) 6.5"s IMO though I did put 6x9s in my rear doors (involves some sheet metal cutting to make them fit)

4) I went with a 500W mono sub to push a shallow mount 10" sub. Speakers get powered from HU.
5) No. stock wiring will suffice.
6) Kenwood DMX809s looks really nice to me.
7) I used generic sound deadening. I think it works well, but I can't compare since I've never used "the good stuff."

 

I appreciate your response. Here's some things that I most likely will settle on...

Headunit: I'm most likely going to go all out and get the Kenwood Excelon DMX 908s. Only real reason I'm choosing this over the slightly lesser 809s is the physical buttons instead of the "screen like" buttons on the side. That's the one thing I hate about my pioneer HU in my other vehicle is that I'm constantly having to look over to change the volume instead of just feeling for an actual button to press. Plus sometimes it wouldn't register me pushing it and I feel its worth the extra money just to get the buttons.

Front Door speakers: I saw a very highly rated youtube account known as Five Star Car Stereo post a video of a Toyota Tundra to the exact spec as mine and put in Kenwood Excelon KFC-XP184C. Big 7" door speaker which would put out a very good amount of mid bass for the money, which should suffice until I get the funds to make a move on making a sub box for under the rear seat. $200 gets a 80 watt max RMS with a 63-18K Hz range at 86 dB sensitivity. It's not the greatest speaker ever for the price but it'll definitely be infinitely better than stock.

Rear Door speakers: Although I did talk to a crutchfield consult and he said neither the front 7" component speakers nor the 6.5" coaxial version of the previous stated speaker would fit in either the front or rear door (due to height clearance issues) I don't believe him because there is literally a video online of them fitting with the supplied brackets in the box. So, I'm going to order both and see if they do. If they don't fit I'll send them back and get a smaller 6.5" Kenwood but I'm thinking I should be able to get away with it. Guess there's only one way to find out. (Exact speaker name is the KFC-X174)

Amplifier: The crutchfield consult said that his personal favorite 4 channel amp was the JL Audio JD400/4 for $280. Gets you 75 watts RMS x 4 @ 4 ohms which although won't meet exactly what the speaker wants it'll be enough for me and it's a great price. Reviews seemed pretty good as well.

Prices in order: $725 + $200 + $100 + $280 = $1305 (just for HU, speakers and amp) (taxes not included)

Only thing left on the list is figuring out which wiring kit to get and how much of it I need.

I also noticed that Crutchfield seems a little too pessimistic on Tundra DC door speakers. The rear doors don't have much depth in the DC. The front doors are better, but I still had to use the spacer that came with the Kenwood Excelon

$279 KFC-XP6902C Car Component System Select Chevrolet/Toyota

KFC-XP6902C speakers (6x9 for front door that comes with a mid/tweet for the dash). They were listed as a fit for my 08. I went with Rockford Fosgate R1525X2 5.25" coaxial speakers for the rear (mostly fillers).​

I like a 5 channel amp... less wiring. I went with the D4S (down for sound) JP95​

I did not rewire the door speakers. I just ran speaker wire from my amplifier up to the dash and connected to the stock wiring.​

I went with Siless mass loader and sound deadening. It was fairly cheap, but I was happy with the results.​

I went with a Fox Acoustics sub box that holds two semi-shallow subs. It fits nicely under the rear seat, but still gives some room for storage under the passenger side of the rear seat. I have links to everything and a bunch more pictures in my build thread. Audio stuff is sprinkled through out it.

 

Thanks for the response mtucker, I read your long and extensive build thread of your truck and man I could only wish mine only had 5,000 miles (or whatever you are at now) Very impressive to see how far you've come in the little time you've had it.

The one thing I couldn't find was where you bought your sub box from? Seems like a really good product and fit and you've peaked my interest now that I know I'm not the only DC Tundra owner looking to add one under the rear seat (seems like everyone has a crewMax)

There wasn't a lot of recent information on the audio forum for 2nd gen Tundras since they are getting on the older side. Yes, it seems like everyone else installing a system is doing so in a van.... I mean Crew Max where there is lots of room and tons of boxes available. I also looked at tech12volts as a lot of people recommend them for subwoofer enclosures. The link I had to their dual 10" DC box (they had a ported and sealed) is no longer working and it looks like they redid their web page.
