Oil gauge low

Hey so my oil gauge is low but when accelerating goes up about half way then drops back down.
Do I need to be worried or is this normal?

 

It's completely normal on these. If you hear knocking, then you have issues. I'll bet you're okay.

Normal, so much that its stated in your owners manual

 

The oil gauge is not oil level. It is oil pressure.

The behavior you describe is 100% normal.

 

My Dad has a 2006, I have a 2005. His oil pressure stays at 1/2 all the time.
Mine rides a hair above 1/4. If I floor it, I get to 1/2.
Normal cruise or idle. It sits at 1/4. All day, every day. I have changed out the pressure sender,
no changes. I think Toyota altered the bias on the 2006 model. IMO

 

As long as these 1stGen Tundras remain on the road, people will be asking the, "Is this oil pressure normal?" question. One question I have is, does anyone know the actual pressures that our rigs are running at? Not just "high" and "low" but what PSI values are represented when the gauge reads 1/2 and 1/4? I know there's basically no correlation but, I've got an '85 pickup with a 22R and at idle the oil pressure in around 5-7 PSI and at even a mild bump in RPM, say 1-1.5k, it jumps to 60-65 PSI. Does our 4.7L have that large of a swing in oil pressure?

 

I swear Bubba whipped those numbers out of the Owner's manual.

He pulled those numbers either out of the Owner's manual or the FSM on one of the last bajillion times this topic came up. It's the first place I'd look if specifics are needed. To that point, I think it may be in the Specifications section of the Owner's manual.

Mine just sits at the low mark and might raise up to 1/4 under hard acceleration. It really only reads well right after an oil change and then does it's normal lazy thing after a drive home. Been like that for decades.

This is the latest I recall @Shifty from 2 months ago. The FSM readings to me are when one removes the oil pressure switch and temporarily hooks up an actual oil pressure gauge. The idiot gauge is wonky at best in some folks Tundras.

 

Idling at zero oil pressure? Hmmn, something doesn't smell right.

Probably the same technical writer who put 2 quarts of ATF fluid for the change.

 

Yep, there oil gauge, Toyota that is, is wonky.
